Cowboys acquire WR Amari Cooper from Raiders for 2019 1st-round pick
There's an inexplicable amount of hatred for Jon Gruden in the media. The Raiders are terrible right now, but the plan that Gruden has with owner Mark Davis is to rebuild this team for them to be in playoff contention by the time they get to Las Vegas in 2020. With all of these first-round selections, that's definitely a possibility.

Even the most ardent detractors of Gruden can't hate this trade. It's a great one. If you were to ask me, "What round selection did the Cowboys surrender for Cooper?" I would've guessed fourth. If you asked me to guess again, I would've said third. If you asked me to guess again, I would've gone to fifth. Definitely not even a second. I don't think that would've even popped into my head.

Cooper is not worth a first-round pick. Not even close. He's an injury-prone, overrated receiver who can't stay healthy. He has fourth-round value, yet the Raiders stole a first for him. This is an unbelievable trade for Oakland, especially considering that the 2019 NFL Draft class is packed with great talent. If the Cowboys keep losing, the Raiders could end up with Nick Bosa, one of the stud defensive tackles, and a talented receiver as well. Check out my 2019 NFL Mock Draft for more.

While the Raiders get an easy A+, the Cowboys don't deserve an "F." Cooper is an overrated commodity, and Dallas has gotten fleeced in this trade, but the team was desperate for a young receiver. Cooper is still just 24, so there's still time for him to turn his career around. That said, the Cowboys shouldn't have surrendered a first-round pick. A third-round selection would've been more appropriate for Cooper.

Grade for Cowboys - C-
Grade for Raiders - A+

I give them a D for the trade

Oakland gets a clear A for fleecing us
Eh, I think it is an A+ for Oakland given they are clearly in rebuilding mode for the move to Las Vegas

I think it is a B- for Dallas. If this has the ripple effect of increasing producing for Gallup, Beezy, Swaim, and as a result, for Dak and Zeke on the ground, it isn't a bad move.

The value is poor. You dont give up a cheap 1st round pick for a player you will have to pay 15 million for next year and will have to extend for even more the following year. A late day 2 pick should have been the max considering that.

They also made this trade because they were committed to taking a WR in the first. Unless its a QB, and organization should NEVER commit itself to using a first round pick at one position this early in the scouting proccess. Thats just horrid team building.

I bump it up to a D from and F because the quality of WR's has not been great in drafts since Cooper came out and he has had productive seasons. But it was a very poor trade on Dallas's part

Just when you thought we were starting to get a bit smarter, BLAM, super dummmmy to the rescue.

Dallas gets a B+ with a chance to be an A +. If they would've gotten him for a 2nd, it'd be an immediate A+

Who's going to leave Cooper one on one for an entire game? Did you see him toast the Eagles last year?

Coop has had 32 targets this year. That's 48th in the league. In games where he got 10+ this season he went for over 100. If anything he'll help pull coverage off bease and free the box up for zeke. But i'm expecting good things from him if we give him the targets.

I haven't seen AC play so I can't judge him or his play. I have seen DP and the Cowboys play and I can say that the team had a top tier receiver who they let go for some unknown reason (not Dak friendly?). It is my opinion that AC will not really help the team because once teams realize that all they need to do is put tight coverage on him and DP will not throw him the ball for fear of being intercepted. I don't think it is going to "open up" any other receiver in any way. For some reason this offense is looking very much like some local HS teams and the only thing that works is DP running. The unfortunate thing is that in the red zone where the space is limited, that type of offense doesn't work too well that often which is why Dallas gets so many FG attempts vice TDs. DP is not the QB this team needs to be competitive for a SB. Too bad they gave away a top 10 draft pick for an asset that will not have an opportunity to be as useful as it could be.

I’d use him the way they use a brown.

This team hasnt had a top tier WR in 4 years. Not saying they do now, but they aint had one in a few seasons

If the Game games actually offerend a second for him, and the Cowboys a first, well, maybe this dude is off base.

Once a player is about finished with their 1st contract, and the acquiring team then also has to pay them a fortune, it's often tough to get a 1st rounder for him.
The Raiders were shocked that someone accepted their absurd offer, and thrilled to accept it.

On the other hand; no more excuses for the Dallas offense. Put up or shut up.
Hoping for the former!

The Cowboys' argument is that many 1st round WR have busted in recent years, so their mid 1st round pick was Cooper. The problem with that is they get him for 13-14mil per year vs 3 mil year But he IS a proven player.

Well Philly & Wash offered 2nd round picks...Cooper has NEVER been injury prone.....his production has dropped..BUT that could also be contributed to Raiders and Carr who is a shell of himself aswell
Cooper got a 1st round pick ...hes just 24
If Dallas drafted a WR next year w the 1st. Hes be 23 or 24 and unproven
Dak has 1 year left on rookie contract...Dallas did this trade to see if Dak is the franchise or not....no excuses now Dak has a weapon. Plus Defense cant stack the box vs Zeke
