If Alex Smith was 25 he’d still be a chief for a decade. Don’t mix up the two circumstances.
LOL Smith has been getting replaced everywhere he’s been. Dude is a decent NFL but could easily be replaced again.

It feels more like Smith is his ceiling. And his defenders can’t even point to his running because Smith does that too. Right now he’s what happens when Tebow and Smith do the dirty and reproduce.

Alex Smith isn't great but he can make all the throws. He can get his WRs involved in the offense. They don't need to run a college scheme with him under center.

Alex Smith signed a 4 year, $94,000,000 contract with the Washington Commanders, including a $27,000,000 signing bonus, $71,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $23,500,000.

That is the cost of a game manager. Dak at his absolute best is pretty much Alex Smith. Andy Reid had Alex Smith and decided to aggressively trade up for Mahomes. Unfortunately I don't think the Cowboys are intelligent and courageous enough to do something similar. If they were intelligent enough to be proactive then they would have traded up 2 spots for Wentz. The Cowboys re-signing Dak and screwing this franchise for the next 5 years is inevitable. Dak will be an effective game manger again with Cooper.

Agreed ! Will say this over and over again. Dallas will NOT see another Superbowl until Jerry sees Al Davis. Sorry but PRIDE destroys

Would you all rather have Alex Smith at his age/contract or Dak at his age/contract right now?

Just my take, but I can easily see this as a template for FO offer to Dak.

Alex Smith's contract was stupid when they gave it to him and even more stupid now. But he was coming off one of the best seasons of his career. If Dak is going to keep this play up....he's not seeing anything near that.

Mangini made some great points. You can't pay big money to QBs who need perfect conditions and don't make other players better.
Me and others on here been saying that about Dak and you know we are haters for it. No matter who it is you can't give big money in a salary cap league to a person who needs so much assistance to be "avg". When he gets the big payday I guarantee if he still having these games more folks will come around on this guy.

We had Romo, he was going to play 5 more years according to Jerry. The Boys were looking for backups in that draft. Now 2019 is a different story.

Carson Wentz and Jared Goff. I hope Jerry thinks about them on his deathbed.

You had me at Jerry’s deathbed.

Btw, back on the ranch I used to argue the cowboys should trade up for one of those two.

The only difference is. I’m not still in mourning about it.

There weren't any quarterbacks that were available for the Commanders to sign that won in the playoffs. They let go of Cousins who couldn't get it done, and he was probably the best QB we've seen hit free agency in years, and he's not even that great. When you're trying to please your fanbase you can't just have some minimum salary unknown QB.

Like in Dak's case I guarantee if we let him walk some other team will pay him that kind of money.
Any team willing to pay Dak 25 million a year is crazy. Dak struggles to be average and most games he is below average. I can only hope the team is considering drafting a WB next year.

Wouldn’t give either a contract at the moment. Both need perfect situation to play well.

True! But if I had to give one an edge over the other, it would be Zeke. Although, Zeke has fallen off bad as well. I don't think they can be franchise tagged yet. Dak can still just ride his 4 year rookie contract option next year and be tagged in 2020. I would be very weary of giving him a big contract. They should probably do the same for Zeke.

We saw Dak at his best already. 13-3, 11 wins in a row, MVP candidate. Top 3 in QB rating. Ill take that all day long. But its obvious we need a great line for him to play like that. Which we would need anyway to win a SB.
