Adding the years missing there I counted 22 (23 if you count Jameis) first round QBs that were the defacto starter or heir apparent for their teams. There are 32 nfl teams. That's 72% of league starters.

The first round represents 14% of total draft picks.

What does that tell you?

You can do it
Current starters?

If you want to include all starters since 2000, then you can't isolate that to just the first round.

You keep saying that...

hey man...theres only ONE QB worth a 1st round this year...Herbert

Pat Mahomes wasn’t seen as a top tier QB coming out of college. Some saw him going in the 2nd round. Dashawn Watson had his flaws as well. There will be more than one first round QB.

He went 10th overall out of every player in the draft. Of course he was seen as a top prospect. In fact only 9 players can say they were viewed higher. What in the world.

We haven't had a true #1 receiver for the three prior years. It wasn't a new issue.
You were among those saying with Dez gone our Wrs would get open.

They are dead last in separation. A statistcial measure.

And for whatever you eant to say about Dez he drew the other teams number 1 making life easier for every other WR and still commanded a double team making life easier for Zeke.

For 7 games all that was gone. And we turned around and traded a first for a guy who has spent the last two years scaring no one.

Awesome.

RBs and WRs don't win you championships. This isn't difficult to understand.

People who wanted to take an RB top 5 in 2016 now seem ignorant, people blaming Dez for all our problems last year also seem ignorant and vindictive.

Most of you talk out of your butts too often and it needs to be called out. It's getting ridiculous.

You have a situation at QB that warrants hanging on to your 1st rounder. This front office is just a joke!

I don't put this on Cooper, or on his play tonight, he was the least of our problems on the offence.

IF we were truly ready for play offs, then a late first rounder is probably a fairish trade.. a mid second rounder probably is what he was worth.

However in our current situation.. it is likely to be a top 5 pick, which he is not worth ESPECIALLY when you consider that we need a QB. Yes you can sometimes 'find gold' in the later rounds but if you look around the league at the young QB's.. most of them were high draft picks. It doesn't guarantee you success, but it gives you a better shot.

We needed to keep that pick, so that we could trade up to a top 2-3 pick and snare a true franchise QB. Then go and pay Romo ALL the money to be a QB coach. Hire a competent HC and OC and then build from there.

the team is basically complete outside of tight end and maybe free safety and maybe QB where else do you add ? By the way I agree we need major coaching changes

Complete? What? We lack in many areas. Especially on defense. And now, this OL looks like a liability. In 2016, this team looked pretty complete besides some holes on defense. That was ages ago.

Jesus. There is water. But I can't make you drink.
Ok. Well considering Staubach, D. White, T. Romo, D. Meredith were all not first rounders, and our only franchise guy who was = T. Aikman, if you isolate it to the Cowboys only, your point is deflated.

You don't need a 1st round QB to win.

I got nothing bad to say about Cooper, he was the best player on the Cowboys team tonight and it is not even close.

However, we were not a WR away from being a contender and I think that is painfully obvious to everybody right now.

The issue is not that we traded afor Cooper. It’s that we traded a top 5 1 for Cooper.

If we traded what was going to be pick 30 then okay. We traded pick 5.

We traded the equivalent of three end of round 1 picks for Amari Cooper.

If our second round pick is high enough we could turn it into a first pick in 2020 when the real QBs come out.

I guess the theory was if you do this you see if you have a real qb or not....

What does everyone think?
U don't need to do the trade to find out if your quarterback is good what next trade for a good TE?
