I read up on that type injury, and it makes sense Dez would be prone to this type injury.
It does have something to do with preparation and being in good condition and little things about conditioning that dez
would ignore or not do.
If dez had a soreness, or any oddity in a AT he would ignore it and go practice.
He also never hydrated himself properly.
Certain nutrients lubricate tendons, and a lack of those can lead to a problem in that tendon or muscle .
Dez went from little activity to all out activity, and a big body like he has can put a lot of pressure on a tendon that is tight
or has a slight problem.
Basically this is what dez did, he went from sitting on a couch to pro football moves without any regard to tuning up his
body properly.
This is something the coaches or the health guys on a football team should be aware of and teach a guy who has been inactive
how to ease back into things, and be hydrated properly, and getting the right nutrients muscles and tendons need.
For a guy like dez you might want to do a mri of the AT and his previous foot injury and see if there are any issues.
I think there could be a weakness or micro tears in a AT , that if detected could then be repaired, before the person
puts pressure on it and it tears further or ruptures.
They say tendonitis can occur in the AT, and can cause a tear if you dont treat the tendonitis first and of course
take it easy till it is gone.
I dont think these tendons just tear out of the blue, I think there is a unknown weakness or problem with the AT,
and then when stressed it tears or snaps due to the flaw, weakness or issue in the AT.
I think going from little activity to stressful activity makes a athelete prone to have a tear like this.
Also men over 30 are more prone to it happening, and athletes over 30 would be even more prone.
Dez is 30?
So it is possible that if Dez were smarter and not so impulsive and had taken time to ease into things before going all out,
or had just stayed very active, this might not have occured.
Also if pro sports guys who work for teams would be more pro active in preparing players to get them ready to play,
these type injurys including hamstrings etc could be avoided or less of them would occur.
Knowing Dez, he would go from 0 to 60 in activity just because he is excited and thinks he is invunerable to injurys.
He probably didnt know anything about the AT or AT injurys or how to prevent them, or the risk of just doing nothing for
months on end and then boom your going all out on a football field.
I really wanted to see him play for the saints, and just see what he would be like on a good team with brees as his QB.
I was shocked when I heard he was hurt, and I too was ignorant of the AT and how easily that injury can happen .
I do think that had he and saints medical people had been smarter about getting him ready to play, that injury could have been avoided.
I also think no one in the nfl world will learn anything from this ,like they should have already, many players like bkup qb's have
had the same injury, inactive to very active is one issue that stands out.
https://www.webmd.com/fitness-exercise/guide/achilles-tendon-injury
you can read here and there is a link about jim miller a bears bkup qb who just took off on a run and his snapped.
he said it felt like he had been shot.
I think many AT injuries in sports players could be avoided, with proper education and prevention methods, and nutrition.
and occasional exams of the AT would be something I would recommend, Dez had he been properly informed about AT's
should have had a mri before he ever started any football activity, and make sure he is hydrated, and warmed up good, and not over do
it at first.
And knowing dez he went from doing nothing, to doing a lot instantly.
