Garbage stats like “yards allowed per game” can be easily skewed thanks to garbage-time.

Stop being a child and use stats that actually show efficiency. ESPN’s model, for example, had the Cowboys ranked 16th as recently as a week ago. It takes turnovers and game situation into account. Football Outsiders (link above) has them 19th.

It’s adorable how you’re so desperate to try explaining away Wentz’s 4-6 record this year. “It’s not his fault!!! But he gets credit for a playoff run that he watched from the booth!!” Hahahahahahaa

Uh, dummy, you don't know how footballoutsiders works - on many of those stats, it actually AGREES with me you dope. Rushing, points allowed per game, even in passing despite Mariota and Wentz having yards against us....that doesn't take us out of the top 10.

Even then, the most important stat for a defense is points allowed....which Cowboys are top 5 in.

I want people to stop using bogus and out of context statistics to prop up Dak. I'm a fan of the NFL, Wentz is a franchise QB. There is no debate about this, someone here claimed Eagles need a new QB - are you freakin' kidding me?

You see, outside of the blind hatred of rival teams - what is happening here is people tend to diminish other players to prop up ours. Dak is not a good QB, he's not "clutch" he has failed as many times in the clutch as he has succeeded in the clutch this season - it's very Rodgers like in that regard, Rodgers is not clutch especially when it matters in big games against good teams....

Dak does not have the ability Rodgers does - Rodgers is capable of blowing teams out from his arm alone. That's never going to be Dak. Wentz, however, DOES have that ability even IF he doesn't have the clutch gene.

Did Peyton Manning have a clutch gene in big games? Heck freakin' no he didn't.

Wentz took his team to an 11-2 record last year, was pretty much the MVP before he blew his knee out, which helped put them in playoff positioning to win a Super Bowl.

He just doesn't make plays when it matters most more often than not. When the games on the line he fails and that's a fact. You don't have to like it but it's true. Wince is like 3 for 10 or 11 on GWDs. While Dak's 2nd with 11 in the league on game winning drives behind Stafford for most since he entered.

At this point in their careers with the game on the line I'd much prefer Dak over Wince and it's not even close.

Thank you. This defense is not a top defense. They are middle of the road at best. Yards per game and other stats do not take into account all the variables a football game has.

What "variables" are you talking about? Turnovers? Yeah, sure, I agree with that criticism.

However, in terms of RBs that have rushed against us, only one RB that got over 10 carries against us averaged more than 4 YPC. Our worst game against the rush came against Cam Newton/Mcaffrey who both totaled for 100 yards and along with Peterson who had I believe 24 carries, 99 yards, and 4.4 average.

We can debate about the pass defense and how we haven't gone up against many elite passers - we're about to, but up to this point we have been good against the run, good against the pass in most games, and we aren't allowing teams to score points. Again, I agree turnovers are always beneficial or an outright need - however, at the same time, our defense hasn't broken a ton and is still top 3 when it comes to points allowed.

Dak is still 5-5.

In rushing we are top 10, in points allowed we are top 10, AND we are not giving up a ton of pass yards and they aren't leading to points...

Football Outsiders can rank us and put emphasis on whatever they want, the simple point is, our D is not giving up big yards and they aren't giving up points - that's kind of a winning formula. What's the job of a defense? Keeping the O out of the end zone? Yes or no?

Actually, you're reminding me why I stopped looking at footballoutsiders long ago - I also have an issue with how they grade offensive lines and the running game.
