Let's be critically honest about this offense

The offense could only score 22 against one of the worst defenses in the NFL giving up 27 ppg.

Yes, the defense has improved and seems to be the strength of the team but the name of the game is points. And it is not a shut down defense.

Elliott is playing great and the OL seems to be better; however, our run game is like bringing a knife to a gunfight. Scoring in the low 20's isn't going to get it done.

The reality is that the Cowboys have beaten two 2nd tier non playoff teams with losing records that are pretty evenly matched with them as the scores would indicate. And it is great to put two wins back to back and away at that; however, this team is not a tier 1 team.

I like Dak Prescott. He is slow to pull the trigger most plays. He has poor touch on deeper balls and a receiver actually open and can also be thrown open. He anticipates poorly. The game is still too fast for him in a lot of situations. He can't avoid a lot of sacks by being slow in processing and with unanticipated confusion with movements around his own feet.

My complaint at present, is that unless a straight line pass and his feet are set to push off from...I don't trust him to deliver a catchable ball for his receiver. He tries too hard not to have an interception in his delivered ball. Some of that is good, but he is not fluid on almost anything that isn't just two step and delivery.

g
common sense but the homers like @Nav22 @Tommy @silvrNblue @waving monkey don't want to hear it after a win. lollipops and rainbows around here today..

we patched up the oline, rb, and #1 receiver issues yet the qb is still holding us back from reaching our potential. we should have put 35+ on that scrub mash unit yesterday. especially after what they did to us last season.
Awww so wittle Zordon is now using the big words, like homers and such. Hooya Zordon, you get a A. Supporting a young 4th rnd pick who has has little to no help from the side lines, who also was thrown to the wolves his 1st season is now considered to be a "homer"...well it'll be ok Zordon, I'm sure Romo still needs a jock boy to clean up after a long day of Madden football...good grief.

Offense did not play as well as I would like, I will say right now a lot of teams are playing for their lives which accounts for all the close games yesterday as so many are in do or die mode
. I find it funny that last week when people were making their prediction not many were giving a Dallas a chance to win the game yet many of the same now upset that Dallas did not win impressive enough yet did not expect them to win at all.

The path with an added Cooper has to be better developed. My complaint here, is that Dak doesn't run enough from outside the pocket nor does the team blow the back doors out with play action for completions. Even pocket passers do that on occasion.

That's what happens when you drop a TD pass and miss a extra point.

Let me get the calculator......ok 4 points from The Bease plus 1 from Maher = 5 points.

So add those 5 points to 22 and you get 27. Funny how that works isn't it?

I don't know...I felt comfortable with an away win on a team with an All Pro receiver and a QB who is producing better than he did on a MVP season.

limited talent at key positions combined with a coaching staff up able to devise match up problems
for opposing defenses or coach up players above their most basic level and you have the
DCB offence.

Doom, if we had beaten Atlanta by 3 Td's, sacked Ryan 18 times, took the ball away 8 times it STILL wouldn't be enough for some of the schlubs who for whatever reason, turn ANY post into a Dak sucks and were doomed conversation, so as to appease their frothing love fest over TR... Zordon comes to mind as one you just described, there's more but seeing as he called me out, figure I'll return the favor.

I agree. Dallas did not play perfect, there is much room for improvement. They did what they had to do to win. What gets me is people last week commenting Dallas could not win and now upset because they won but not enough... Wake up call to those people YOU DID NOT EVEN THINK THEY WOULD WIN, SO WHAT ARE YOU COMPLAINING ABOUT!!!! lol

ROFL...Doom, I had us picked to WIN by 3.. I even posted it on here...

A group of blind men heard that a strange animal, called an elephant, had been brought to the town, but none of them were aware of its shape and form. Out of curiosity, they said: "We must inspect and know it by touch, of which we are capable". So, they sought it out, and when they found it they groped about it. In the case of the first person, whose hand landed on the trunk, said "This being is like a thick snake". For another one whose hand reached its ear, it seemed like a kind of fan. As for another person, whose hand was upon its leg, said, the elephant is a pillar like a tree-trunk. The blind man who placed his hand upon its side said, "elephant is a wall". Another who felt its tail, described it as a rope. The last felt its tusk, stating the elephant is that which is hard, smooth and like a spear.

The point is, every week people post their assessments and thoughts on the results they see. As the team wins and loses these assessments change. Unfortunately this team will need to show the entire season before any of us, who have no real knowledge of this game from a professional stance, for us to make a semi-accurate assessment of the 2018 Cowboys.

What we can take from this is.

There are a few plays which change the outcome of games, positive or negative.

Dropped interception
Dropped touchdown pass
Unsportsmanlike conduct hitting a ball carried out of bounds
Dak taking a drive killing sack by holding the ball too long

These plays normally would be the dagger to the heart for this team. Marry that with the normal holding penalties at critical times and the 2018 Dallas Cowboys would lose this game normally.

However

Esch intercepted a pass
Esch broke up what could have been a touchdown pass
Esch made a tackle while engaged with a lineman to stop a third down
Dak ran the option and bulldozed a linebacker for a touchdown
Zeke too one to the house through the defenses middle for a touchdown
Gallup came back for a catch for a first down to keep a drive alive
Beasley had two catches which sustained a drive (pay that man his money)

This may not have been a top flight defense, but the Dallas offense did enough to win. Dak, in bus driver mode, moved the team and exploited the interception for a touchdown.

Those hand full of plays which normally scuttles Dallas were answered by plays that changed the game for Dallas. And while some can argue what a lousy defense the Falcon's have, their offense was rated between 8-10 and the Dallas defense with parts missing held them to 19 points.

We get another shot Thursday to see how this team will respond. Perhaps all the Dallas is back and the it was a terrible defense need to just wait on the results.

I don't care that some predicted Atlanta to win. Reasonable given the fact Atlanta has a high powered offense, they were at home and in a must win situation as well. Only thing I find amusing is now they want to complain after Dallas won yet never felt they would win to begin with.

I like what Michael Vick said about him. He said that Dak needs to trust what he sees. It is almost like Dak doesn't exactly trust his own arm at times. I think that Dak needs to learn to trust himself and trust his arm to get the ball to the target that he sees. It explained quite a bit actually, and I hang this on the coaches. The coaches are supposed to help develop players, and Dak, in trying to avoid interceptions, isn't taking the best opportunities as they arrive. The pass to Cooper on the sidelines in nearly double coverage was a perfectly placed ball. If he can do that more, I think he'll be better. I appreciate him taking care of the ball. He just needs to get to the next level of QB play. However, I don't trust the coaches to help him get there. I think that, with a coach like Reid or anyone from his tree (like Nagy who's been BRILLIANT with Trubisky), Dak CAN get to that level of trusting his vision better.

We were averaging 20 ppg before Cooper.

We’re averaging 21ppg with Cooper.

I love the collective “we told you so” from the koolaid drinkers because we beat two below .500 teams with abysmal pass defenses.

I will re-purpose my original query. Can a Tier 2 team qualify for the postseason?

Do teams, as the season goes along, move between tiers? So today's tier 2 could be tomorrows tier 4 or the back side of tier 1? Or, where in tier 2 do they fall. If they are the top team in tier 2 does comparing them to the bottom tier 1 reveal they are close enough to swap positions if those two teams played head's up?

And, are the top tier always the best teams who make the play-offs?

1995 Dallas could not beat the 9ers. They had struggled with them through 1994 and all of 1995.

Green Bay beat the 9ers, then came to Dallas. Dallas owned Brett Favre and the Packers during that era. Dallas won then won the Super Bowl.

Now all of those teams were top tier. And if we assumed the results would be the same, had Dallas been forced to play the 9ers before Green bay, then Green Bay would have won the NFC Championship game and then the Super Bowl.

Now I understand that is skewed to fit my example. But I think it also shows the tiers are dependent on who plays who.

So can Dallas eke into the play-offs and meet the right opponent for them and move on to the second round?

Last point....the ball is pointy on both ends, which sometimes changes the outcome that doesn't fit tier this or that.

NO is going destroy them just like they did the e-girls. The only team to beat them had to score over 40 and they still almost came back to win it...

Mayfield hung 3 TD's on this sorry sack of a defense and their defense actually held them to fewer points. I'd say we are far from out of the woods.

But we did it in Atlanta. Some teams are just better at home. Which is one reason I expect our NO game to be a lot closer than the NO-Philly debacle.

Here is the thing with the Cowboys vs teams like the Saints or Rams.

Dallas will do a good job of holding them to 3 instead of 7 and we will hold the ball forever so we will have a chance to win at the end of the game just like we do every week.

The way we play it's going to be hard for any team to put up a lot of points because time will just simply not allow it unless we go down a couple scores early and force Dak to throw but we're playing such good defense that it's probably not going to happen.

Running QB's have been the defenses downfall and Goff doesn't pose that threat and Breese isn't as nimble as he used to be.
I don't think that they will be able to hold NO to 3 instead of 7 because of Chido and Brown. Stafford and Ryan both exposed/ punked them and neither QB is on Brees' level. I can see that game being a blood bath.

Since they would get the playoff game at home, that could happen but which of the other 4 teams would be the best matchup for a win? The potentials are CAR, SEA, GB and MIN. LAR, NO and CHI are the potential division champs but could stumble and GB or MIN gets it. I could see the Cowboys winning the WC weekend game because of their D. But they would have to play LAR or NO away and I could not see them winning against either team. But win the East and a playoff game is a successful season in my book.

I just don't see it.

We're too good defensively and waste too much clock offensively for the game to get out of hand.

Now a turnover and going down 2 TD's early could lead to a blowout but we're just not the kind of team that's going to get blown out.
