PFT: Gregory was not lined up in the neutral zone

Even if it's not official, you can use it as a marker for where the ball is and where Gregory's helmet is. Gregory's helmet is more than half way across that blue line. Where is the ball in relation to that blue line and is Gregory past the nose of the ball when you use that line?

No I can’t see it so it’s not egregious enough to call that in that situation

The refs were dragging that carcass of an offense for the saints down the field all night hoping to jump start that offense

BS that’s borderline at best. That was a call to keep the Saints close. Wasn’t the flag thrown late as hell that play, almost after the ball was stripped?

Yes, that's what makes this a real questionable call more so than where Gregory was lined up. . The flag didn't come out until Brees was stripped. If the ref saw the off-sides, he would have thrown the ball as the ball was snapped, but he didn't do that. Follow the money. If I hit Powerball, I would hire a top end PI company investigate this. NBA went through this, I'm sure they are paid off refs in the NFL.

Too many obvious officiating gaffes last night to single one out. That was one of the poorest I've seen in some time.

If the spot was at the 50, yes he was. If you look at the photo, he's the ONLY Cowboy over the 50, and by good margin. The blue line for the line of scrimmage cannot overlay the white line marker because it needs a green background so that too tells me the LOS was probably the 50.

Looks like illegal formation on the LT. He’s lined up next to the WR who’s more than a yard behind the LOS.

You might be right about that. Someone should start a thread. This one was about Gregory NOT being in the neutral zone which the evidence clearly shows he was. The fact that there's a major news outlet article on this linking to a photo that shows Gregory is across the ball is hilarious to me. It's like they know no one will investigate from being too emotionally wound up and just don't care.

The official mark is on the sideline which is why they have the chain gang. So the ball can't be some arbitrary line of scrimmage because it'd come into play during measurements. Wouldn't it?

Line of scrimmage and neutral zone are not the same thing. The yard marker designates the line of scrimmage. The ball designates the neutral zone. If the point of the ball isn't at the line of scrimmage, the ball is still the neutral zone.

Again, this is more about telling players where to line up. The line of scrimmage can be an inch from the 50-yard line, but there's nothing on the field to designate that, so the players have to go by the point of the ball. Everyone looks at where the ball is to know if they are lined up correctly.

If the ball is the neutral zone, then in the photo I keep posting, is Gregory over the nose of the ball if you use that blue line?

I haven't posted it on Page 6 yet so here it is again, lol:

There was a play where Dak got sacked last night where the NO defensive end had his whole body in the neutral zone before the snap and the refs missed it. That was after the RG call.

The ball is the spot.

Not near the 50.

I have seen WAY worse not called routinely.

Here's the photo again. Use the blue line as a reference to tell me where Gregory's helmet is in relation to the ball on the blue line. Is Gregory across the ball here? You like facts, right? Lol.

ticky tacky should have been a non call. Why you beating a dead horse at this point? Just to have someone validate you and tell you your right? Im too old for this nonsense. Im on to the next topic...

Come on man. Look at the blue line again. How many postings does this take?

Gregory1.jpg

Marcus - His helmet is clearly over the blue line, but I don't think the blue line is exactly lined up with the ball. It seems like the blue line is a few inches in from of the tip of the ball. It is hard to see because of the blurry picture. If the blue line is the defacto neutral zone, then yes the front of his helmet is over the blue neutral zone.

I guess we need to see this shot in real time, right before the snap to really know right? And with better resolution. I think everyone's point is that it is so close they typically don't call this.

You never admit the calls that are blown against the Cowboys opponents but you sure as heck argue to eternity the calls that are called against the Cowboys

Sure I do. For example, when I saw the hold that was called against Collins last night, that was the exact play that wasn't called on Wilson by the Philly player when the announcers were slobbering over Wentz, which I agreed with. Collins should not have been flagged. You post a thread about it and I'll be in there to back you up with evidence. What I don't like is whining and conspiracy victim mentality so I do argue against that. I like throwing evidence at emotion to see what happens.

You nailed the issue. This is picky to the point someone is blowing up a photo over and over to prove a point. He was not in a position in which this foul is typically called or there would be 15-20 of these fouls every game. And thread title aside, the positioning of the left tackle is meaningful because the official is looking across and seeing two things -- a LT in a slot position and a DE who might -- might -- be an inch in the neutral zone (we don't know whether the center moved the ball, for one thing), and the official called the foul on the defender. It was a ludicrous call.
