Exactly how did they come up with that off-the-wall number?

It’s a simple formula really. The number of infractions times .75, multiplied by the velocity of the tackler times .5, multiplied by the angle in which they collided times .33 and finally multiply by the number of times it was replayed on ESPN/NFLN

Once you get that number you convert from euros to dollars because...the metric system (#thanksGoodell) and you get the fine amount.

There also may or may not be a kicker depending on if you play for the Cowboys. I haven’t completely cracked the code yet.

The problem with this statement is that “lowering your head” is a football instinct.

For both offense and defense. For Jaylon, he's flying to the ball. You fly head first, not rear first. Same thing with ball carriers diving forward for more yardage. If you move forward with any lean forward, your helmet leads. That's the way human bodies are configured.

If Kamara hadn't cringed like a little B in anticipation of the hit he most likely wouldn't have gotten hit in the head.

By the letter of the rule it was a penalty and such penalties are typically fined this way. If we happen to meet the Saints in the playoffs I'm sure Kamara will have his head on a swivel for Jaylon 'The Kraken' Smith which that fear is worth the fine in my eyes.

Isn’t this why they started wearing helmets? Because heads inevitably collide?

Problem is they lied to players and hid the truth for years(allegedly?) and now we have to suffer through the overcompensation.

Lol, “by the letter of the rule?”

That was a textbook helmet-to-helmet, crown to ear hole shot. The refs can show that play to all 32 teams in the offseason.

worst opinion i've seen in some time.
Really, so when they started football and had those soft helmets they designed the sport so that people would lead with there head and go for other people heads.

They could go back to wearing leather helmets. That might solve the issue?
Obviously getting hit in the head is going to happen and thus the hard helmet-the problem is when players began to use it as a weapon to tackle-not the intention of the hard helmet!

They should have nipped this in the bud many years ago but were not aware of the long term effects of the shots to the head!

There is an article that says the nfl wants to only fine at this point with warnings that they will be penalized in the future.
so what the NFL will provide officials a checklist for the game on which players they refs need to watch for?????

If he was too concussed to be in the right position on that Brees INT then it was money well spent.

Joking aside, not wishing injury on anybody.
