Gallup's numbers should rival Cooper's

It is known in football that the deep ball down the sideline is a safe easy throw to make.

When average fans like yourself are in awe over the guy that is throwing these type of passes the NFL guys look at being able to complete that pass as the bare minimum and are looking more at the deep outs on the sideline or routes over the middle of the field over a linebackers head and in front of the safety.

Jamarcus Russell can complete the deep sideline pass. Daunte Culpepper can complete this pass. It's not a big deal to rare back and throw the ball deep down the sideline. IT's all the in-between passes that are difficult.

Its not about being in "awe"....but you guys are in "awe" of Brady and in "awe" of Wentz and in "awe" all of these other "big arm" quarterbacks and they all make the same throws. As a matter of fact the great Wentz missed this same easy throw to Jeffrey's just this pased game. HE over threw him. Its almost like you guys don't even watch other teams play. You just watch the Cowboys and have no idea what to compare Dak to. You guys have Dak chasing the ghosts of Dan Marino.

it just makes no sense.
if it were an easier throw to make than most others, it would be successful more often than others.
the fact that it's statistically completed less often means it's not easy.
it's like saying a 98 MPH fastball with movement is easier to hit than a 90 MPH straight fastball despite hitters having more success hitting the 90 MPH fastball. it flies in the face of logic and statistics.
His logic makes no sense to me. He's on this whole "Dak is wasting Gallup" trip. Like I said above, its like he doesn't watch any other teams play. QB's miss that throw all the time.

We're not on Dak because he missed Gallup 1 time. It became a thing In early November and it's still a thing.

I can are with this. Most of them have been on Dak but I think it's more of a chemistry issue. Gallup and Dak need to work on timing and get better chemistry and then those passes will start hitting home. Also seems Cooper is much faster so Dak puts more on it, Dak has to figure out what speed Cooper and Gallup go and throw a different pass to each receiver.

I don't think its a faster thing. I think what Amari can do better is that he is a better route runner at this point in his career. They were explaining this on one of the morning shows this week but essentially, because Coop runs such good routes, he is usually more open or creating more space that allows for more room to react to balls that are off target. Now, this is totally plausible in terms of everything but 9 routes or go routes. I think there is definitely something to that. However, Dak misses Gallup on go routes a lot. I can't explain that, to be honest because that does not happen with Cooper. Maybe Coop has an extra gear and that allows him to make up the distance on a poorly thrown ball but even then, the ball is still poorly thrown if that is the case. Gallup is not slow, he's fast WR but, he may not have that ability to kick it in the way Coop can. Gallup may be just a guy who is fast and runs fast all the way with no other gear or he may simply not have the same acceleration but he is fast. It's weird.

Of course its a thing. He's missing Gallup. But he's missing no one else but Gallup. So should I say "Dak can't make that throw" or should I dig deeper and get a better understanding of why he's missing that throw? Its never as black and white as "he can't make that throw". Its always deeper than that.

i'm completely willing to accept that dak is below-average in hitting those throws. i would wager he isn't one of the 10-best at making that throw.

however, providing data to back up an assertion is basic stuff. otherwise, you're just basing things off your feelings and biases.

it is a statistical fact that deep throws are completed less often than the average. absolute objective fact.
https://www.profootballfocus.com/news/pro-most-accurate-deep-ball-passers-in-2017

in fact, if you look at that, the average deep pass % would be below 50% if all QBs in the league are accounted for. granted, this is PFF's "adjusted" completion %, but their adjusted completion % for all throws is well above the best deep throw %, so the point still stands.

also, this:
https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stat-analysis/2018/deep-ball-project

throws of just 16+ air yards are completed at a WAY lower clip than the average completion%. the *BEST* on that list from last season is 58.2% by Drew Brees. the BEST! and that's just 16+ air yards; you can bet those numbers continue to drop the further out you go. 50+ air yards? the average completion % is going to plummet.

if anyone has any data to back up their arguments, i'm all ears. so far i haven't seen anything except feelings and "i just know." that ain't it son.

do you have statistics that say Dak misses that throw more than the average QB?
what about more often than, say, the top-10 QBs by passer rating?

Why do you need stats for that? I don’t really care about another QB. It’s been stated that they are extending him. Why not want more out of him? Sigh. He can get better or are you content with what you see?

Yeah I'm not familiar with Gallup but when he was drafted people compared him to Dez and said he was "Dez-like". I don't see it at all. They also said he wasn't fast but he looks fast to me. Not saying he's Desean but he looks faster than Dez to me. Scouts painted Gallup one way but he looks much better than what they are saying about him.

I could be mistaken but Cooper is a 4.3 guy and Gallup is a 4.4-4.5 guy. I do agree with the route running but on go routes Cooper seems like he is faster, can run down those overthrown balls while Gallup is just a yard or so away from getting there.

if this were the case, why don't the numbers bear it out at all?
if they were so easy, why aren't they completed more often?
why aren't the thrown by every QB every down if they were easy to complete? why are they far rarer throws?

And this is where you guys lack football knowledge....you don't "care" about what other qb's are doing...so what are you grading Dak based on? On what you do in Madden? It makes no sense. You have no idea what a good qb is or what it takes to be a good qb because you don't watch anyone else and don't "care" what other qb's are doing.....so Dak is chasing your unrealistic expectations.

Unrealistic to want him to land on a few more long passes to an open receiver? You’ve got to be joking. Lol. Wait wait, to be more accurate. Hold on to the ball. All possible things and realistic things to want of your QB

Third round draft pick, rookie wide receiver Michael Gallup, is having a tremendous initial season, though you wouldn't know it looking at his numbers. While 27 receptions for 404 yards & 1 TD in 13 games is acceptable for a rookie, this is no ordinary rookie. Gallup has consistently beaten his man for deep balls, only to be overthrown by Dak Prescott. I have little doubt the kid would have caught almost every ball had it not been thrown ten yards past him. He would be looking at close to 40-750-6 if his QB threw to him with the same touch & accuracy he's had with Cooper. If that connection ever gets right, this offense will be very hard to beat, indeed.

Needs to avoid stopping on the route and it will hit him right in the hands.

But I thought trolls like you said that Dak couldnt throw deep? I guess thats just another dumb observation debunked.

...you don't care about other QBs?
if dak is better at that than other QBs, wouldn't that matter in evaluating him?
if he's far worse, wouldn't that matter, too?
i want to know what you're basing your opinion on. so far, i'm getting literally nothing but feelings.

can you simply not comprehend what's being said?
statistically, every QB misses those throws more often than not.
if dak is better at completing that throw than the average QB, then what's the argument? that he should be way, way better?

You saw the first 3 quarters of play. It’s been the MO. It’s there to see for everyone. Then he turns it on so why not want that more? He can but let’s set the bar low?

The guy threw for 455 yards, 3 touchdowns and a 78% completion rating.....and you guys are complaining about his 3 bad passes to Gallup lol. So yeah......you are being unrealistic. You want to complain about the fumble or interception...fair. But I'm not harping on a overthrow of Gallup. I refuse to. You don't even watch other qb's so in your mind no one throws bad passes. So I can't really even debate this subject matter with you.

wow man.
every QB misses deep throws more often than other throws. every single one.
is dak better than average, average, or worse than average at hitting the deep throw?
how many other QBs miss those throws to gallup over the course of the year?
if most QBs miss them most of the time, i'm not going to kill dak for missing them most of the time. this is why statistics are important.
