Nick Carter on Cowherd today about Dak

And you think that it will not be better going forward?

The change in coaching has already reeled off 5 straight wins with this OL you say is no good.

Some mirage.

I think you need to hold your head up and take a look at some highlight film.

Who is that blocking for Zeke?
They are improved but still not playing anywhere near the 16 level. I think everyone can agree on that.

Zeke makes them look much better than they are.

I think everyone can agree on that too.

Sturm has the best take on Dak's contract.

5 years 100 mill guaranteed, which essentially turns into a 6 year deal for 15 mil a year after signing bonuses and proration and all that stuff come into play.

15 mil a year is like 20 range ish for QB contracts.

If Dallas is going to pay him then hopefully they pay him earlier so they can get the better deal.

Unless there are some outs somewhere in that contract, and Sturm never said there was in his deal, that's a risky contract.

Then why not let 2019 play out and tag him in 2020? That gives you two years at $31 million. Advantage Cowboys.
I am all for that! It was just a reply that it would be a mistake to pay him more than 15 million

The "guaranteed" part of that is what's terrible. You're completely locked in for 6 years, no matter how things go.

Risky and awful. How do you guarantee $100 million to a player you're still not sure can lead you to a championship?

Heck, I'd rather go in the entirely opposite direction and pay him more while still leaving myself an out of things go south.

I can see Dak getting 22-24 mil maybe even 25 per season and I would be comfortable with that. I still believe in Dak and believe he could be pretty awesome if he had a creative OC.

That would be way over paying for his skill set.

He needs too much help. Anything over 20 million a year you start looking for another QB and let him play out his contract. Maybe Franchise tag him like the poster said if needed to. But 25 million would cripple this team down the line.

Jerry and Stephen already said they are going to give Dak a new contract by season's end, not by the end of 2019 or 2020.

How much is Matt Ryan getting paid per year?

Did they? I remember Jerry saying Dak will get an extension, but I don't remember him saying it will be by the end of this season.

Heard this today and could not agree more.

He used Matt Ryan as the line, and said if a qb is above that line, you can pay him bucks... the Rodgers, Brady, Rivers type QBs.

If the QB is below that line, you can not pay the guy like he is a superstar qb... if you pay a below Matt Ryan QB like he is Brady, you are screwed.

Said he would let Dak play next year for his 700 k deal and see what happens and if you need to Franchise him with the non exclusive tag, which would mean if anyone signs him away from you, they have to give up 2 number 1 picks.... and as Carter said, nobody is gonna give up that for Dak.

This was good stuff and i agree 100% As he said, if better than Ryan, pay him. If he is not better than Ryan, you got to be prepared to walk away.
If he plays for 700k and blows up with a great season next year, he's gonna cost A LOT more. The FO and coaches see him everyday up close and personal. They may know a little more than outsiders and fans.

IM not worried about this, I doubt Stephen will allow us to simply overpay over a FELING of Emotion for the guy ie knee jerk reaction contracts..they will haggle their butts off with the agents and in the end both will agre on a fair contract..im thinking 18-22 range 5 yrs and some guaranteed and escalators etc

if the Agents play hardball just let him play 2019 at 900k or whatever and then more hardball FT the guy..worse case scenario let him test the market , get the market set for him and then go for a LTD when reality hits..

outbidding yourself would be dumb as well as just paying him top 5 money just because of gut feeling on how good his ceiling is, no way .. I know what a lot of your think the Jones are idiots but they are business men and I doubt they throw out desperate money first sit down at the table..

Bortles took around 19 and next year that about 20-21 mil and IMO thats where Dak should land..If they want to prove hes worth 28Mil then give him 19 over 5 yrs with BIG time production escalator bonus's like 500k per for each category he gets in the top 10 for like Tds, YPA, wins, playoff wins, division wins, QBR, etc etc etc if he has a shot at 8mil in bonus's and Dak and his agent feel like hes worth it, make him prove it..20 mil 5 year =100mil to start and 50mil guaranteed with 8 mil in bonus money...

A lot of fans get consumed with focusing on the amount of a contract on the day it is signed. What happens more often than not is that what seems like a high dollar contract (or perhaps, overpayment) ends up looking like a good deal (or bargain) for the team after a couple of seasons go by. Just look at the escalating nature of contracts in the NFL (at all positions). The contract that fans were about to revolt over when first signed would be one they would proclaim a "bargain" as the end of said contract nears. Something to keep in mind.

Stephen tried to sign Sammy Watkins to a big contract and then after they failed, claimed they would be productive with a WR by committee approach to then admit months later it was a bust and had to trade a #1 pick for a WR.

I don't trust Stephen here like others do.
