Video: We've seen Romo deliver plenty of these type of games Dak just had, yet doesn't get the same grief?

The Steelers game in Dec, 2008 was similar to last weeks game against Philly. The Cowboys would have been sitting in great position had they won that game. They were leading and Romo proceeded to melt down in the 4th quarter. He had 4 turnovers in that game and played his worst football with the game on the line. The Cowboys entered the game 8-5. Had they won and the final 3 games of the season played out the way they did with the team going 1-2, the Cowboys would have won the division with a 10-6 record. The loss to the Steelers resulted in a season finale elimination game vs Philly where Romo suffered yet another meltdown with 3 turnovers. That game was a debacle! Not trying to hate on Romo but some fans here make very poor attempts to try and draw comparisons in games that weren't nearly as critical as Sundays game where Romo overcame great adversity to help pull out a win.

Dak isn't the passer Romo was and probably never will be and he's not as exciting a player but he possesses great intangibles and is resilient. The Cowboys have recovered from an 3-5 start to 8-5 and they did it with virtually nothing at WR the first 7 games of the season and a beat up OL that's contributed to Dak being sacked 48 times. Romo would have never survived the first quarter of the season with this OL and no Dez Bryant or Jason Witten. I'm not 100% sold on Dak, he's got some big warts but the guy is as scrappy and resilient as we've ever had at the QB position.

He's taken a real beating on the field and from the fanbase and never gives up. It literally brought tears to my eyes on Sunday watching him bounce back from having a bad game to playing his best football in the 4th quarter and OT. He's building a reputation as a QB you can't keep down or count out. He's like a club fighter who's bloody and looking beat but somehow finds a way to suck it up and get it done. Garrett said it best after the game, Dak is one tough SOB. He's tough physically and mentally. While the fanbase continues to spit and hate on him wanting any QB but him behind center, he continues to find ways to win games. You won't find a season under any Cowboys QB where they dug themselves out of a deeper hole to win the division than in 2018.

I think the difference is that Romo was a great QB so much was expected. Dak is not a great QB, so whenever he throws a TD pass its almost like an overachievement and everyone is thrilled.

If you say Romo is a great QB and Dak isn't why is Dak better in the clutch than Romo

Exaggeration doesn't help your cause. List all of the threads that were started proclaiming Prescott the greatest QB ever. Nobody believes that or says that but there are those that say he's nowhere as bad as the Prescott haters try to paint he as. There's a difference between disputing the haters and proclaiming him the greatest QB ever. The haters turn EVERY thread into lets bash Prescott.
.

Bingo... what he said

Yes, greatest ever was an exaggeration, but there was the thread about Dak having the highest completion percentage in Cowboys history as if that meant we have a great franchise QB. Others went on to say in that same thread that Dak would break every Cowboy passing record before he was done, never mind that he isn't even close to TD rate that Romo was on, or that passing is easier than ever, or that even with the leading rusher in the NFL we are only scoring about 20 points a game.

First, I don't think Prescott will break all or most of the Cowboys passing records but he did just break one so it could be possible that he could break others. I don't see any harm that a person started a thread acknowledging Prescott setting a Cowboys record and that by no means of any stretch of imagination is proclaiming or even implying that Prescott is the greatest. It was only acknowledging a Cowboy setting a Cowboys record. I take it from you that if any other Cowboy that sets a knew Cowboys record that it would be OK to acknowledge that without any implications of being the greatest ever but since it was about Prescott there is automatic implications by some that they saying he's the greatest.

Strange point of view. Romo would get crucified for games exactly like this.

I was on the Cowboys own website for ten years when comments were still allowed and now here since. Most of the users here were regular users on the Cowboys site and the berating Romo took wasn't from the majority of users. It was a group that did it every day on every thread just like the a group here who every day on every thread rip Prescott. Because these groups did it so much and every day on every thread there are many that think the ripping was so wide spread when it was just these groups. Here's a couple things to think about. Romo was voted to 5 Pro Bowls. If he was ripped on and blamed for all the losses by the vast majority of Cowboys fans he wouldn't have received enough votes to make it to the Pro Bowl. Have you ever heard of the old saying the vocal MINORITY?

Romo was a B+ Passer, some games he tipped A-.. A better scheme and who knows, we might have another ring or two..

Right now Dak is a C- Passer, he’s flashed A- a few times, he’s had several B+ performances.. A better scheme and who knows, we might hoist the Lombardi....

When someone's a "gunslinger" or "risk taker" It's ok for them to throw it to the other team for some reason.

Uh, it's quite a bit different playing top 5 defenses in the 2008 Steelers and Eagles vs facing the current Eagles who have a terrible pass defense missing most of their secondary. It isn't nearly an apples to apples comparison like you are making it out to be.

Dak had a banged up TSmith wearing a knee brace on his arm, obvious he wasn't 100% healthy, Romo had a better center snapping him the ball (AGurode), Dak had backup Looney. And was without ZMartin late. Eagles pass rush was getting to Dak thruout the entire game. Philly had their injuries, we also were missing starters Lee and Irving on D.

And you aren't crying by calling posters out? Awesome. (just wonderin what the fine line is on the term crying)
Nice strawman. There's a difference between calling people out for useless arguments & debates, and actually doing the latter.

You're one of them so I guess that's why you felt the need to respond.

This is why the Romo thing keeps coming up.

Romo would be forced to win games despite the team.
Recently, the team has been winning games despite Dak.
HUH...I must be mistaken! Dak didnt throw any of those passes?

Lol you have issues man. Like I've been saying, both Dak fanboys and Dak haters are ruining this fan base. Bunch of manchildren who have no lives so they spend all day crying on the internet. lmao.

How is a Cowboys fan liking their young QB ruining the fanbase?

You are generalizing using a single Romo game as his M.O. for his career. Fact, starting in Romo's 2nd season as a starter until 2015 Romo had more come from behind 4th quarter wins than any other starting QB during that same time. Now on the other side of the coin that showed the defense during that same time period gave up more leads going into the 4th quarter than any other team. Many of those 4th quarter come from behind wins Romo had the Cowboys had the ball last but not always. A prime example 2013 Romo and the Cowboys put up their 48th point to tie the game and most thought with just 38 seconds left it would go to OT. But the defense letting the Cowboys down was when they allowed Manning to get the broncos in field goal range and kicked a game wining field goal.

Anyone comparing the Bills game in 07 and the Dolphins game in 2011 to the Philly game last Sunday is comparing apples to oranges. Neither game was as critical to the Cowboys season as the Philly game. The Buffalo game in 07 happened in week 5 and the Miami game in 2011 happened in week 12. Romo had a couple of turnovers in that game and he was facing an average QB in Matt Moore. Miami ended 6-10 that season. The game that was most similar to the Philly game last week in 2011 was the week 14 game vs the Giants. That was a critical game for the Cowboys and the Giants. The Giants entered that game 6-6 and were on life support. The Cowboys had the Giants down by 12 points and a Giants loss would have pretty much ended their playoff chances and given the Cowboys the upper hand in winning the division.

The Giants comeback win helped them make the playoffs and go on to win the SB, while the loss helped keep the Cowboys home for the playoffs. The Cowboys went 1-4 in Dec in 2011. As for 2008 against the Steelers and Eagles top 5 defenses, the Cowboys had the Steelers down 10-0 and blew the game in the 4th quarter with the help of a Romo pick six late in the game. Romo suffered a complete meltdown in that game with 4 turnovers. The Cowboys ended up going 1-3 in Dec that year. Romo went on to lose to the Ravens and Joe Flacco who was a rookie in a very critical Dec game at home which was the final game at Texas stadium. Against the Steelers, Ravens and Eagles to finish out the 2008 season Romo suffered 9 turnovers. Our 2008 offense that had TO and Witten was much better than the offense the Cowboys have now.

The Cowboys 2018 offense has been one of the weakest offenses the Cowboys have had in many years. Outside of Zeke we had virtually nothing to start the season with which is why we were 3-5 at mid season. Our receiving corp was minus our 2 top receivers from last year. The OL has been bad all season contributing to 48 sacks for Dak after 13 games. Romo wouldn't have survived the first 3 games behind this OL. The first half of the season the Cowboys offense ranked near the bottom in every statistical category except rushing where they ranked 11th. Although the addition of Cooper has improved the offense it still isn't very good especially scoring points. We continue getting bogged down in the redzone which will eventually get us bounced from the playoffs. We're leaving too many points on the field and it will catch up with us in postseason.

.

It's not a single game that created Romo's career MO, it was a series of Dec/Jan big game losses that created it. It was the loss to the Giants in the 07 playoffs that ended with a Romo pick in the endzone. It was the Dec meltdowns vs the Steelers in 08 and Philly in a season finale elimination game. It was the meltdown against Washington in a season finale elimination game in 2012 in which Romo suffered 3 turnovers vs a one legged RG3. Romo's had a number of 4th quarter come from behind wins but most of them occurred in games that didn't have our season riding on them. QBs are judged by how they perform in Dec/Jan games that have their seasons riding on them. Romo had little playoff/elimination game success and that's what created the negative stigma he carried.

Those big game losses were certainly not all his fault but he contributed. Once the dam started to crack for Romo he couldn't stop the leaks. Once the turnovers started coming they snowballed and so did his game. Dak doesn't get rattled by early turnovers and adversity. He hasn't allowed the sacks he's taken and the criticism to affect his confidence causing his game to implode. He remains patient and sticks to his game. The guy simply doesn't fold. The 2013 loss the Broncos was on the defense but once again the ill-timed turnover bit Romo in the butt and that's what everyone remembers. The bottom line is Dak still has a long way to go to prove he's the long-term answer. He has to smooth out some of the warts he has to be the long-term answer but he does have some great intangibles.
