Schultz appears to have established himself as the 1 TE

(Should read "#1" in the header.)

Looking at snap counts since the WAS game, he's getting on-average about 50%, then Jarwin's getting around 35%, and Rico's left with 15%.

For what it's worth.

I wasn't sure about Schultz when they picked him. Did not like the pick at the time. Not Schultz himself, but the position pick. I thought they should have went DT or S. But I thought that of White and Armstrong as well. And Bo, and Cedric Wilson too.

But as a fan I also also said, I will give them all a chance. Schultz started to grow on me some as he got more playing time.
Hope he proved me wrong. and he is starting to do that.

Think we'll look to add more competition there next year but Stanford makes pro tight ends .

He came out a smidge undersized at 6'5 244 so if he can gain some muscle this offseasoff he should do better at sustaining his blocks.

I was excited with the pick but was surprised we got him with a compensatory pick in round four. It's unrealistic to expect him to be Jason Witten on day one but I'm anxious to see how he develops.

Draft Projection
Round 3

Stanford has become a hotspot for tight ends, and Schultz is the next one in line with an NFL future. Head coach David Shaw called him the most "complete" tight end the team has had in recent years, as his height and hands make him a nice target over the middle, and he's growing into a solid in-line blocker.

Strengths
  • Very tenacious and tough as a blocker
  • Well-schooled in blocking fundamentals
  • Leaned on as vital part of the run blocking unit
  • Initial hand placement is good
  • Ability to sustain and finish
  • Improves positioning after contact and can generate some movement at point of attack without a double team
  • Gave it to USC's Rasheem Green on more than a couple of snaps when matched head to head
  • Sinks hips into breaks
  • Opens sharply on underneath routes to look for the throw
  • Has good feel for attacking the voids against zone coverage
  • Will shut routes down early to keep throwing window open for quarterback
  • Physical in creating space at top of his routes
  • Short area footwork is adequate
  • Has ability to become a reliable target over the middle and in traffic

I liked schultz as a pick, but also was a little surprised at 4th rounder for him....almost as puzzled as why Stanford forgot to add the "s" on the end of "The Cardinal" (dumb for such a "heady" university, IMO :D)

but, he was a nice player in college and has potential in the pros if used correctly - he did add 18 pounds since his senior season so he looks to be a work in progress in building his size/strength and skill set - I like the pick (now)

Definitely need to upgrade TE in the offseason but Schultz looks like he could be a nice #2 which means it wasn’t a wasted pick. The rest can go but I’m sure one of the others will be kept as well.

He posted a 0 on the stat sheet against TB. He's a blocking TE who isn't an NFL caliber blocker.

He's coming along fine. But, he hasn't grown into the massive shoes he needs to fill. In my opinion, if we keep Dak at QB, we need to draft o-linemen and TE in the next draft.

Then again, there's also the FA route.

Any of these names get you aroused?

  • Jared Cook, Raiders
  • Benjamin Watson, Saints
  • Tyler Eifert, Bengals
  • Jeff Heuerman, Broncos
  • Maxx Williams, Ravens
  • C.J. Uzomah, Bengals
  • Jesse James, Steelers.

I’d still draft a TE in the 2nd or 3rd. As much as the Cowboys run 2 TE sets, they still need help.

Stephen Jones already identifies TE as a need heading into this offseason a few weeks ago. I think they like Schultz but may look for more of a receiving threat.

It's kind of funny how a lot of people are hoping that we draft a TE in the second round now, when only a few years ago the "Cowboys suck at drafting TEs in the 2nd" was a thing.

Yes it is.

I still think S or DT in the 2nd. Then TE and OL with the next 2 picks. then the S or DT for if they pick one of them in the 2nd round.

All depends on FA's though too. But they seem to still draft players at positions they sign FA's.

Even a LB is a possibility. As what happens with Lee, and Wilson is a FA.

I wanted us to trade for jesse james at the deadline. Him or cook would fit nicely imo.

There is no s as Cardinal refers to a color, not a bird. There cannot be multiple Cardinal as it is a single thing. They have that right grammatically.
