Pathetic Offense Last 2 Games. 6.5 PPG? Some sad facts

How sad is it to see the offense sucking, when the Cowboys finally have a good defense (currently #6 in the NFL)?

Against Tampa Bay, the Cowboys defense scored 7 points on the fumble return, and essentially scored another 7 with the Tampa turnover deep in the red zone. On its own, the Cowboys offense scored just 13 points- against one of the worst defenses in the league (Tampa defense ranked #24). Tampa's D gives up an average of 28.7 points per game.

The previous week, against a defense that gives up an average of 21.8 points per game, the Cowboys offense scored zero.

In the last 2 games, the Cowboys offense has essentially scored an average of 6.5 points per game.

The possible culprits (GM, coaches, players) have been discussed ad nauseam. Regardless, this offense is not inspiring confidence for a play-off run.

Nevertheless, enjoy these last 2+ games. It will be the off-season before you know it!

...and Zeke still gets 4.7 ypc. Give that man the ball!

30th. For anyone that can't bear to open the link or to see the awful truth. The Cowboys rank. 30th in scoring touchdowns in the red zone. Oh, but that's "up" from being ranked 31st last week, so there's that....

Best running back in the league and so poorly used in the red zone. It will not improve until SL is shown the door.

Part of the reason is he is used so much just to get to the red zone. Zeke is looking worn down and beat up heading into the playoffs. The good news is at least Dak looks fresh! Lol

Ok, so back to the OP's original point--the offense is responsible for 10 points a game the last 2 games. That's a troubling trend heading in the playoffs.

Using your statement in bold--will 10 points a game be "enough to win" playoff games?

I'll be shocked if it is. As a reference--since going back to 2008 season (that's 110 playoff games in the NFL playoffs) only 9 times in those 110 games has the winning team scored less than 20 points.

I hear ya but if the Def can hold a team to 9 then, yes 10 points will win. I know that we haven't won by more than 7 all year except the jags but our def has held teams to low points so anything helps us

Technically true, can't argue that.

That said--if your best hope heading into the postseason is that our defense can hold every opponent to 9 or under, then I don't know what to tell you, other than don't plan on a deep playoff run.

But it is so unnecessary to keep every team you play in the game by the passing game being so awful.

There definitely appears to be a conscious change in the mindset. They do "one thing" between the twenties and then something completely different inside the twenties. And none of it in a good way.

I don't put all of it on the coordinator, but he certainly gets the lion's share of blame from me. He still doesn't know the team he has and what they're built to do and he's content to allow defense's to dictate to him what he can and can't do. That's a loser's mentality.

I agree. The offense should be causing opposing defenses problems instead of the offense restricting itself and totally changing in the red zone. Simple bootleg passes which Dak could also use to run , should be used in the red zone along with many more plays that other offenses have so much success with. It seems like the offense plays scared in the red zone instead of showing the confidence that it took to drive the length of the field to get to that point.

I don't care who the QB is, if the game plan sucks, on both sides of the ball, no team, no matter how talented, will be able to win consistently in the playoffs.

Look at the Ravens, look at how they're winning. A boring, but still creative offense...and a solid defense, not because the players are great on either side of the ball, but because the game plans and schemes are phenomenal. The Ravens win with schemes and nastiness, not because they have the best players at most positions. Coaching is everything for them...else they'd be stinking it up.

Say "Thank you" Dak Prescott......same ole same ole repeat of last years anemic offense....wonder why we got Cooper as hes being doubled now and all Dak does is check it down to Zeke.....You want offense my Cowboy Brothers ....we need a new QB!!!

Several things will hopefully happen this offseason:

1) Frederick shakes off the rest of that bizarre disease, and comes back anew.

2) Tyron Smith heals up, ready to be the Man again at LT in Sept.

3) Zack Martin: I presume he'll be getting surgery to fix the MCL? If done immediately post-season, should be plenty of time to recover for OTAs, camp, and starting in Sept., no?

4) Full off-season of practice, playbook adjustments, and chemistry-building with Amari Cooper.

5) Reflect on whole season of blocking issues, correct & re-train.

I'm probably missing something(s). But these 5 alone give me some warm hope for 2019.
