One Thing We Should All Agree On About Dak

See above links

Dak's basically the only QB Linehan ever OC'd for where it didn't go well

Heck even Gus Frerotte was as productive under Linehan as Dak is

But the Vikings offense had serious passing game talent, the Frerotte offense wasn't much better than this one, and the Detroit offense also had passing game talent. This offense had talent in the passing game as well when it worked for Linehan (romo, dez, witten).

So it looks like you're saying that he's not bad because he's done well with good offensive talent and one time over a decade ago he did average with bad talent.

That's not the ringing endorsement you seem to think it is.

All due respect, You're proving my point.

You talk about 1 time a decade ago, he did average with bad talent. And everywhere else he's had good talent and done great. Ok, so Linehan has consistently had prolific offenses when he's had good talent at his disposal. We agree on that.

Cooper has shown he's got gamebreaking ability. We have the leagues leading rusher.

Where's the breakdown in our talent pool?

Who has Linehan done well with? You or I could have made the Stafford-Megatron connection work.

Romo did well with Linehan, not the other way around.

For the record, Romo was a QB with Linehan for all of 4 games, so I have literally no idea how you came up with that conclusion unless you were just stretching something to make it fit what you wanted it to.

This offense had talent in the passing game as well when it worked for Linehan (romo, dez, witten).

They all played together for Linehan a total of 9 quarters (whom you listed that is).

In this day and age more than ever, coaching is a huge part of a Quarterbacks success. Simple examples like Goff with Fisher vs Goff with McVay, and how K. Shanahan can take Nick Mullen’s and make him a legit NFL Qb are great modern examples.

But even in history, no great QB has won a Super Bowl without great coaching. Montana, Brady, Farve, Brees, and Big Ben are all guys who we see as HOF’s but seem to forget the great coaching support they had around them.

I’m positive we all agree that the combo of Moore/Linehan/Garrett are near the bottom 5 in the league at development and expansion of a QB’s game. Without proper coaching, a player regresses or can become inconsistent, as the correct habits are not being taught and retained.

I don’t know why Dak is the only QB who is expected to flourish without good coaching. But it seems to me he is a prime example of a QB who could clean up his game with top notch coaching.

I think we should all agree to reserve full judgment on Dak until we see some type of competant coaching. Only then will we see the full picture.

**To those whining that Dak needs everything to win, please show me a guy who’s won anything significant with a bad coach and average personnel. Any Super Bowl winning team needs both great personnel and at least good coaching. Not one or the other.
Totally disagree. Dak was Rookie of the Year. They had a week to develop after Romo turned into first name Mister....last name Glass. Sure the game has obviously passed by Linehan but to say they didn't do an excellent job his rookie season is not being truthful. Heck JG won coach of the year largely because of the development of Dak so quickly.

Dak is not a good QB. It is not the play calling. He routinely misses wide open receivers. How exactly is that on the coaches? Troy pointed it out last week what people here have been saying for months. 3rd down. Tight End. Dak's security blanket. Comes WIDE OPEN for the easy 15 yard conversion. Dak never sees him. He'd predetermined to throw a 3 yard pass at the sticks.

Why anyone blames Scott for that is beyond me.

Awesome post, hound dog. Not wanting to get a debate going on, but I really think Dak lost a little coaching from, guess who? I don't know his name, but his initials were romo...who got coached by Parcells.

Poor Dak, he's trying as hard as he can...and if his team rally's around him, who knows if it was coaching, or just all these Dallas Cowboys players not getting any respect? The QB has the intangibles...get the water boy to help him grow, lets see him and these Cowboys.

It's kind of what I've been saying all along how can we expect that to progress with the quarterbacks coach that he has?

And if the coaches aren't running the scheme that best fits your abilities then why are they there

Linehan was passing game coordinator in 2014 and was responsible for a lot of the game plans and play calling.

He and Romo clicked very well together.

This was on display last weekend as I watched Andy Reid coaching up Mahones on the sideline in between series and with Jerrys Money we have the WaterBoy coaching Dak

How can we expect the best results from a QB coach with Zero NFL experience to draw from . This makes no sense to me with Jerrys money we should have Peyton Manning Tutoring him LOL

So....Mark Sanchez, Christian Ponder, Blaine Gabbert, EJ Manuel, Tim Couch, David Carr, Brian Hoyer, Blake Bortles, Brock Osweiler, Tim Tebow, etc, etc, etc, etc.....

They were all the victims of their coaches?

That's lazy thinking.

Linehan did not coach up Stafford, he's doing the same instinctual things he did at UGA. He's an unorthodox passer and incurable.

I don't see any coach fixing Prescott's consistency on his accuracy issues. Don't we think his coaches tried in high school and college? Why do you think he couldn't win the QB job outright? Hell, Prescott doesn't even trust in his accuracy and has to wait for the throw to be more comfortable for him.

But that doesn't mean he can't play QB in the NFL and be successful. As long as the team he plays for understands his limitations and can work with them. He's a coach's dilemma, he can make all of the throws, because we've all seen him make them, but then he can miss all of them as well. And there is no excuse for missing open deep receivers, none. All these guys do is throw footballs.

"Everywhere else he's had talent and done great"

With Detriot in 5 seasons here's his team's scoring placement amongst the league

2009- 27th
2010- 15th
2011- 4th
2012- 17th
2013- 13th

He had major issues in the red zone even with having one of the best and biggest WRs of all time.

Here's his stint with the Rams:

2006- 10th
2007- 29th
2008- 30th

This "average" to you?

His one season with Miami he had a middling 16th most points.

His first season with the Cowboys his offense was 31st in points scored, despite having major talent and Romo for four of 16 games.

Where are these prolific offenses yoire speaking of? His first three years in the league with Randy Moss that was 16 years ago?

Poor post again.
