So....Mark Sanchez, Christian Ponder, Blaine Gabbert, EJ Manuel, Tim Couch, David Carr, Brian Hoyer, Blake Bortles, Brock Osweiler, Tim Tebow, etc, etc, etc, etc.....

They were all the victims of their coaches?

That's lazy thinking.
those guys just needed a better qb coach. lmao...

Linehan did not coach up Stafford, he's doing the same instinctual things he did at UGA. He's an unorthodox passer and incurable.

I don't see any coach fixing Prescott's consistency on his accuracy issues. Don't we think his coaches tried in high school and college? Why do you think he couldn't win the QB job outright? Hell, Prescott doesn't even trust in his accuracy and has to wait for the throw to be more comfortable for him.

But that doesn't mean he can't play QB in the NFL and be successful. As long as the team he plays for understands his limitations and can work with them. He's a coach's dilemma, he can make all of the throws, because we've all seen him make them, but then he can miss all of them as well. And there is no excuse for missing open deep receivers, none. All these guys do is throw footballs.
And they need to let him run more. He looks so much better when he's doing that.

I can't believe there are some defending Linehan.

In the Eagles game Cooper was getting frustrated with the constant stop routes that the CB were all over. He shows his frustration when breaking the huddle and Dak tells him to go long then and Dak adjusted the play at the LOS.

Cooper runs a go route resulting in Dak hitting him in stride for a long TD.

Tell me again how a better OC wouldnt help our quarterback?

You mean the high powered offenses when Linehan had Megatron and Randy Moss, probably the 2 biggest mismatches at WR to ever play?

Which would be easier to ignore, if Johnsons production weren't dramatically lower in the years before and after Linehan's tenure in Detroit.
Moss, I'll give you. He produced no matter who coached him. But his statistical best season was in his 2nd year under Linehan's offense. Just for the record. Only season in his career he averaged over 100 yards per game. And had 17 TD as well.

As long as we're having this discussion, can you explain how Linehan got similar production out of Gus Frerotte and Marty Booker, as he's getting out of AC and Dak?

Maybe we should try and coax Gus Frerotte out of retirement. I bet we could get him and his similar production at less than $30 million a year.

The complaints about Linehan (or Garret as OC) didn't start showing frequently until the last couple of years.
Maybe there is trurh there, but where were all of these complaints before our man Dak arrived?

Oh, I had A LOT of Linehan complaints before Dak arrived. And a lot of the complaints have been the same.

Feel likewise about Prescott.

Linehan was basically running the offense in 14. We all know it. That's why Callahan left. He wanted to have total control again and they said no.

And all those years in Detroit that you listed, they did not have the leagues leading rusher and still were higher in points scored than we are this year.

Scott was good enough for Romo. Romo sucks
Scott is not good enough for Dak. Dak is super star.

LMAO oh crap the quarterback coach sucks too alone with the offensive line, wr. rb, te and the defense doesn't score enough.

Yep Scott sucks

I wonder who is good enough to play with Dak? anyone?

erod, LOL at your list.

Ultimately, I hope JJ doesn't give Dak a long-term blockbuster contract, not yet. I'd like to see one or two more years of improvement before giving him a huge long-term deal.

Having said that, I like the direction he's headed in, and I have hope that with a different OC, he can win a lot of games in the NFL...and some playoff games.

All due respect, You're proving my point.

You talk about 1 time a decade ago, he did average with bad talent. And everywhere else he's had good talent and done great. Ok, so Linehan has consistently had prolific offenses when he's had good talent at his disposal. We agree on that.

Cooper has shown he's got gamebreaking ability. We have the leagues leading rusher.

Where's the breakdown in our talent pool?

What he's done in the past, with other teams, is irrelevant to what he's doing now with this one.

I was once a Linehan fan, but he needs to step up his game for 2018.

It's not too late.

Same for Cole Beasley.

I guess if you can get an OC that can help our QB see an open man and hit him in stride rather than sail it over his head or bounce it short/behind, then we'd probably have a legit discussion going on.

you can....making the right reads, quickly, that is accomplished in the film room with the QB, QB coach and OC...and then manifests itself in practice.

As for the bad throws, few QBs make every throw well, consistently. I've seen Brees, Rodgers, P Mannin, Roethlisberger, and many other "great" QBs sail throws or under throw receivers, having bad games. And lord knows I yelled at the TV screen with Romo way too often for some of his bad throws (not just bad decisions). Romo could be magic in the 4th quarter when the team was desperate, but in too many of those games, he wasn't all that accurate in the 1st 3 quarters. Romo excelled in helter skelter, comeback mode....not so much early in games sustaining drives. Too many in here have amnesia if they think Romo was a premier, "accurate" QB who rarely made a bad throw.

Again, yes, Dak needs to get better....but an OC who understands which throws he makes best, and then planning a passing offense around his strengths with a renewed focus on play action passes will bring out the best in Dak. I don't see Linehan delivering in this way....because he never fully delivered for Romo either.

Dak is not a good QB. It is not the play calling. He routinely misses wide open receivers. How exactly is that on the coaches? Troy pointed it out last week what people here have been saying for months. 3rd down. Tight End. Dak's security blanket. Comes WIDE OPEN for the easy 15 yard conversion. Dak never sees him. He'd predetermined to throw a 3 yard pass at the sticks.

Why anyone blames Scott for that is beyond me.

You mean last week? When Dak went 20 - 25 in a game that was never in doubt where we were up by 14 in the 3rd Quarter?

What Troy says about Prescott is mostly positive, he points out the bad passes but says you win with a guy like Dak - and that he can get better. On missed reads Troy points those out every week in every game he works, that isn't limited to Dak.

you can't even make a chicken salad out of Dak

...though he's mustered 2 NFC East titles in his 3 seasons. I'll take that.

Can they get over the hump? Let's see what kind of game plans Linehan and Marinelli come up with, but their playoff track records aren't impressive. They routinely get out-coached. Will the Cowboys have some new wrinkles and less predictability? Can they score in the Red Zone with better, innovative play calling? Does Linehan have a few "trick" defenses up his sleeve, that can fool a seasoned QB into making a bad read?

We'll see.

who's good enough to play with dak or coach him? sounds like nobody on this team, players and coaches are good enough for dak.

* scott not good enough
* moore nope not good enough
* offensive line nope not super stars
* te nope no HOF'er
* HC nope not the best in the NFL
* defense, nope they can't hold the other team to 0

This team sucks, why can't Dak get the best of everything.

Did I forget any excuses.

Yea. Great point. So when linehan had weapons he produced high powered offenses. Thats the point. When some one is given weapons they should be able to be elite and linehan has proven that.

When given average then you are handicapped in what you can do

Linehan was passing game coordinator in 2014 and was responsible for a lot of the game plans and play calling.

He and Romo clicked very well together.
Yeah for sure they did. That's why Romo basically designed his own plays at the LOS and brought the play clock down to 1 almost every play. Lol. Romo was the OC. Linehan was here in name only

LMAO. who's good enough to carry Dak.?
who we going to blame next?
Dang it's Jerry's time? He only got Dak one super star wr. Dak needs two cause he can't find one when he's glitching out from pressure.

Romo won 2 playoff games in like 10 seasons. What excuses would you make for Romo? Or would you conclude that he simply wasn't good enough, since his 2 - 4 playoff record was utter crap?

Like most in here say, Dak has to get better, but we think he can (well, we're at least holding out hope because, well, why not?).

We wanted Romo to get better too, and he did, but not better enough, right? The question is...do we show patience with Dak like we did Romo (when I KNOW most of us in here would be screaming at the TV at some of his bad throws and bad decisions, and holding the ball too long only to fumble in the pocket, etc.).

Dak is winning right now, and he's not even at the top of his game yet. I'll take that. If this team were 5-11 in his 1st 3 seasons, I might have already lost patience too....instead, he's developing a winning mentality again in Dallas, raising expectations. I like it...
