I absolutely do think Dallas can get a better backup than Smith.
I have nothing against Rod Smith, he's a good back-up runner behind Zeke Almighty.
It's really a question of cost versus cap.
The team has lots of contract decisions to make over the next couple of years and paying a little used reserve just doesn't make sense.
Lawrence
Cooper
Zeke
Byron
Jaylon
Dak (I'd rather not but that's a different convo)
I dunno anything about the cap but can we afford to keep all these guys or we gonna have to let a couple of them go?
It can be done.
It really isn't a question about re-signing the players, as most contracts begin cap friendly before having big base salaries at the end, it's about 4-5 years down the road.
When thinking about who to re-sign, we also need to consider who might no longer be here in the near future?
Sean Lee and La'el Collins' deals end after next season, Jeff Heath and Tyrone Crawford's deals end after 2020. Lee and Crawford are on their way out with neither assured of playing out the final year of their deals. Decisions will be made on Collins and Heath, is LC worth a big investment on an already handsomely compensated OL? Heath has been cheap to date, is he worth a third contract or is it time to go fish?
Terrance Williams and Allen Hurns should both be let go in the off-season, which will net over $11.5M in future cap space.
