What is our top need now?

With X. Woods closing out the season as the #5 FS per PFF, Blake Jarwin's emergence and Schultz proving himself as a valuable #2 / #3 TE (plus a returning Swaim next season)..... what is our top need? Are we really looking at OL / DL depth as our top need? That's a pretty amazing position to be in.

I imagine Beezy is out of our price range, and a WR becomes a top need again. We definitely can use interior and outside depth on the o-line, and depth at DE and DT. We can also use a good SS as an improvement over Heath, as well as a more reliable kicker (why is Maher seemingly only money from 50+ - it is nonsensical)

I'd be careful with the Blake Jarwin emergence.

Safety, playmaking TE type, DT.

I'd specifically say 1T, but I doubt this organization changes their thinking on this. So maybe a playmaking 3T type in the 2nd round, like Tillery from ND.

This times 10...

So, if in every round, a RB is the best available, you think we should draft 7 RB'S?
Best available within reason. Why you gotta bust my chops man. Hahaha. I personally am leaning towards tight end as my number one target because I have given up hope we draft a big playmaking DT. I also would look at Cornerback, guard, and linebacker for depth because I think Wilson could pull a Hitchens and Lee is going to retire.

Yeah, Jarwin is starting to play better and produce, but way too early and not enough evidence to call him there.

I thought Heath was the FS?

Heath is a modern day Bill Bates. He's a big hitter and never gives up. You can't have pro bowl talent at very position nor should that be required to win. Every team needs guys like Heath.

trying to start a fight? This is like the RKG term. BPA term is usually followed by "that fills a need". If RB is the BPA and could slot in behind Zeke or spell Zeke reliably sure if its a Tackle that could take over for Collins after he leaves why not. Neither positions are areas that need to be upgraded but if player can might as well draft him if not for this year for next year. The good teams I feel look at their whole roster and years left on contracts and make picks based on BPA that fills need either immediately or down the road. A stupid strategy is to grab lets say a DT late in the 2nd that has a mid 3rd round grade on him just because a team thinks he won't be there for the next pick.

JJ Watt had a 2nd round grade.

If we had a 1st round pick and used it on a RB this next draft, we would be the most foolish team in the NFL.

If that DT is a gap filler and you're terrible against the run, he might be a great pick.

Your conclusion that you don't take a 3rd round graded player at the bottom of the 2nd is based on a belief that the grading system is extremely accurate. It's not, it's a guess.

Official Cowboys depth chart has Heath at SS, Woods at FS.

It's going to be very interesting to see what this team does in FA, because it's the first year in a long time we have a lot of money to spend and have a team that is making a serious run at the SB.

We have some big checks to sign this year and the next 2 years, but we also have some players that we will cut to clear up cap space for this upcoming year and the future to give the flexibility to add players. Definite cuts Lee, Hurns, T-Will which will save 14.5 million in cap for 2019, and possibly Crawford which would make it over 20 which would give us about 75 million in cap space.

This FA isn't a great one, and with the quality along the defensive side of the ball in the draft, I think some of these guys we can get at a halfway decent deal considering most of the teams with money have high draft picks.

Tyrann Mathieu is a guy if he hits FA would be towards the top of my board and he fits exactly what this defense looks for in a FS, someone who can man single high, 2 deep, but also come down into the slot and Mathieu can do all those things and still relatively young at 27.

Sheldon Richardson is another guy who would be intriguing he had a bounce-back year can play the 1 and/ the 3 tech who can get up the field and he is also relatively young at 28.

Jared Cook is a guy who gives you some explosiveness from the TE spot and if you are looking for a 1-2 year bridge guys at a decent price he might be a guy to look at. Worst case scenario Jarwin is due for a break out or we draft someone but it gives some depth to the position.

Those 3 moves in FA are definitely doable as well as setting you up to go into the draft with no real needs.

We need a spark on offense somewhere.

Whether it's a TE, another slot guy, or just improving the OL we need something to help provide chunk plays. Maybe a new scheme will do it.

Defensively i'd keep adding to the front 7 and if you can add a dynamic safety or even another corner i'd look to go that route.

We just need good players.

I'd like another RB too that can make an impact with limited opportunities.

We are such an RB dependent team that I would like to see if we can't get someone in the late rounds that can produce when called upon.

I like Rod Smith but he's strictly a north and south runner.

DT/DE (need someone to replace Irving who will almost assuredly be gone after this season)
OL (need quality depth)
TE possibly (Noah Fant is on my wish list)
LB (will have to replace Wilson and Lee possibly)
Kicker (yes I am serious)
CB (never can have too many good ones)
S (if we can upgrade Heath I am good with that. X Wood is the real deal)

I hope we get a new OC, someone who can mix things up and some added dimensions to the offense. Linehan tries to do this with Austin, but you can tell he lacks the creativity to actually do it. If we can get a scatback type guy and a creative OC we can run 2 back sets like many teams are running, and I kind of hope we keep Austin if the price is right because I think he gives an added dimension and he can play the slot role with more explosiveness if Beasley is gone.

Maybe tackles, and some competition in camp for the O-line but all of our interior guys are signed for next year.

It's TE for me. Even if Jarwin pans out, two starting quality TE's is a great problem to have for a running offense like ours. This is one of the deeper TE classes in a long time IMO.

I actually think we should draft a RB to complement Zeke. Somebody in the Tarik Cohen mold. Keeping Zeke fresh by working in a guy with a different skill set (Smith provides nothing) will benefit him, and us, going forward. If he continues with this workload, he'll have a short career.

TE for me too. Agree with the RB, especially one that can flex out into slot receiver, receive punts and run jet sweeps.

I’d be willing to go any of TE, DT, Safety, WR, OT, or OG (if were willing to shift Conor Williams to OT) in the 2nd. I’d tentatively add LB, CB and RB from the 3rd on but prefer 4th+.

The right QB I’d draft anywhere but that seems unlikely.

wilson must go, lee maybe a year. so SLB is a must.
i like fant as a gamebreaker TE but like what we are developing
gamebreaker RB
left tackle that can be swing short term
i struggle with DTs cause it looks like we should be ok but the Rams game has me spooked

The Rams game Woods played with a torn labrum, Collins was carrying and ankle, Crawford was out and Reid was terrible.

I think we need a 3rd DT with Crawford as a flex guy but I’m not judging Woods and Collins too harshly.
