While some Cowboys fans might take issue with Romo’s snub, it’s pretty refreshing to hear a former player give an honest answer without trying to praise his old team. That doesn’t mean Romo hates the Cowboys now, it just means he’s taking his new job seriously.
And don’t worry, Cowboys fans, Romo still spoke positively about the team.

“If you look at the front seven of the Cowboys, they’re going to be in every game because the defense you just can’t go up and down the field on them. You just can’t. This will be one of their tougher tests this week because their defense will keep them in the game. But you just have to score a touchdown in the second half at the right moment. And if you do, the Cowboys are absolutely in a position in which they can win the Super Bowl.”

See, no big deal. Romo still has love for the Cowboys. But is willingness to give honest answers and not allow his biases to slip into his commentary is a major reason his transition to the broadcast booth has gone so well.

Those qualities should make Romo and entertaining addition to the Super Bowl no matter what teams get there.

I wonder if it would be better questioning whether Romo had defenses as good as the current defense, statistically or not. I look at the present defense and wonder if it could have stopped the Giants 42-second touchdown drive shortly before halftime of the 2007 playoff divisional round game. Quite frankly, I would say yes they could have and the team would have advanced to the next round.

I also think many previous defenses would have benefited from a secondary coach like Richards . It was always our week link and cost us late in games when the would give up a big play . We drafted talent Mike Jenkins , Claiborn ,

GEEZ Newman may be still playing for all I know but he couldn't play here and went on and played a lot of years along with Pac man who continued to play . We couldn't develop anyone or keep them playing at a high level

It's not a narrative. Romo had a lot, and I mean a lot really bad teams.

And like you said. The times he had a solid team he went to playoffs. And his best team he was a non catch away from the NFC championship game.
It's not even debatable.
Put this defense with the 2014 team and they would be unbeatable
And Murray had a great 2014, but nobody in their right mind would ever say he's on Zeke's level as a player..

But Romo has said plenty of times that he was a much better player in 2014 than he was 7 years earlier. In other words, Dallas may have gone further back in 2007 if they had the 2014 version of Romo.
Bad timing all around...was not to be

But we should be happy we have Zeke and a crazy good defense now...and they're young

Lot of reasons to be positive

And for those who will not read the article, Romo was quoted saying also:

If you look at the front seven of the Cowboys, they’re going to be in every game because the defense you just can’t go up and down the field on them. You just can’t. That's funny. There it is right there. People see what they want to, don't they?

How would that be if the Cowboys managed to get there and Romo calls the game. Bet nobody ever pictured that.

No one expects us to win Saturday. The Rams are a better team, and their record reflects that. We are huge underdogs. Why would anyone expect us to win? Why would anyone expect us to win again next week and get to the SB? Those are unrealistic expectations for this team.

Could it happen? Yes, anything can happen. But we are not supposed to win tomorrow night, and anyone who thinks we have the better team will be looking to blame someone if what’s supposed to happen happens.

The Cowboys are a young, flawed, growing team. Realistically, we are in the top half of the NFL, knocking on the top 10 door. Just enjoy the ride. Anything can happen, but this team isn’t SB caliber on paper yet.

If we make the SB I would have to think calling that game would be a very conflicted experience for Tony . On one hand there are players he was probably close to that he would want to see get a championship but on the other hand having dedicated 13 yrs of your life to the mission and coming up a couple yrs removed would have to be bitter sweet at best .

Calling a SB is a great achievement and an honor but as competitive as Tony is the desire to be in that game instead of calling it from the booth would be overwhelming IMO.

I would think it tough to be objective when another guy is living your dream in front of the world on the biggest stage

Tony Romo will call the Super Bowl for his first time on CBS . When asked what teams he expects to see in the big game, Romo did not mention his former club.

:popcorn::popcorn::popcorn:

Romo will die inside if Dak Prescott in his 3rd season, leads the Cowboys to the Super Bowl.

If he is in the booth for as CBS' Lead Color Analyst and they win- he may cry on air and not with tears of joy.

It would be just his black cat luck for this to happen too.

Great player, great person. But man would this be so tragically fitting in correlation to his playing career.

I have no choice but to hope this happens, but I will feel a bit for Tony.

No on paper we are not but that's why the games are played . Paper dosent assign a value to heart and determination its the intangible that gives us a punchers chance even if the odds are against us

Heck my expectations were met at making the playoffs

Man... You wanna talk about sour? Don't let us make it to the Super Bowl and have Romo calling the game as Dak leads us to victory.

He knows his own history for not getting us to the playoffs as much as he should have. :muttley:

And this is a different year and team and has grown.
You’re optimism is nauseating, let’s just hope Zeke brings his A game. Because we all know daks passing game dosent show up till linehan has had 3 qtrs to make adjustments on the offense. Genius. Linehan should get more credit.

this

But to fair, Romo himself has said he was a better QB in 2014 than in 2007
Anyway, he did end up making the play that should've won it with 17 seconds left. But no dice
