Replacing Heath among top priorities

could you point out those plays that cost Dallas the game?
Sure, with 1 timeout and Rams in 3rd and 7, Heath didn't keep to the inside and allowed Goff to run for 11 yards to get the first down and run out the rest of the clock. Had Heath stayed true he would have been able to chase Goff down preventing the first down and getting the ball back to the offense to tie the game. Instead Heath took the bait and crashed inside

CowboysZone DIEHARD Fan
DJ Swearinger in FAgency....also Earl at FS ..draft a DT..and TE. .
Resign
Dak 15-18 mil
DLaw..
Cooper

Lee- retires
Beasley- sign if cheap or else replace through FA or draft..or Hurns
I'm nowhere near Dak's biggest fan but the days of thinking he only gets 15 to 18 mil are gone. With contracts out there like Jimmy G in SF and Cousins in Min, he will be getting around 22-25 a year, and that's if his agent is just functionally literate.

Everything else agree 100%

He is below average IMO.

But again that’s why he needs to go. In the playoffs you need guys who will make that play for you. Heath isn’t that guy.

He made that play in Oakland last year to win the game. Just sayin'.
Should we upgrade? Sure, but I don't get the Heath hatred on this board.

I still say you go after earl Thomas.

This is a guy that’s a leader.... has a title and is still great as he proved vs us this year.

Thomas takes this defense from very good to elite.

We hall have the cap room even with signing our own guys. Sign ET and then you upgrade through draft. Maybe a TE and some other depth.

Lmao, I was agreeing with you until you posted this. You just lost credibility lol..

So you're saying we need a star at both receiver spots and tight end? Dak really needs 3 all pros in order to succeed? Gallup played great for a late pick rookie. He's gonna ball out next year. You're also acting like Jarwin didnt catch literally everything thrown at him.

No I didn't lose all credibility, but you sure did.

I know he's a fan favorite here and was continually ticketed as better than Byron(despite many logical explanations to the contra) from those that get sucked into flashy plays once every blue moon.

He's a big reason towards our loss on Saturday.

We play Heath at SS, where his lack of agility is a problem. He's better as a single high FS where he can keep the play in front of him, and use his speed to close. He was starting to get us some INTs when we let him do that in the back half of 2017.

No, just no... At no DB position is he good enough. He's not even serviceable. It's time to move on. I promise you that it won't take much to upgrade. I'd even spend a draft pick on a decent safety, in the 3rd or 4th round.

Saying he should be a back up isn’t hatred.

It’s just being real.

He isn’t a quality starter. He is a rotational level player. No shame in that. But they should strive for better. If Jeff Heath is your #3 safety, you are doing well. If he is your #1 safety, you’re in trouble.

LOL I don't hate him. He just doesn't make enough impact plays throughout the course of a game to keep him as a starting safety. It's time to try someone else back there...like test FA (find someone to give a 1-year or 2-year deal), or draft someone. We need a safety and a DT...and an entirely new defensive philosophy. Marinelli taught them how to tackle and do the basic things well (I'll give him credit), but it's now time to go to the next level of better schemes and better, timely play calls.

The cowboys need to sign Earl Thomas.

The answer is easy. Earl Thomas takes this defense to the next level.

The question is. Will the FO pull the trigger?

Thomas is going to be 30, undersized which has caught up with age, and has missed 2 of the last 3 seasons after breaking his ankle and has missed time in all 3. Awuzie has skills as a coverage corner and is suspect in his tackling at best. Why would they be interested in either of those moves! Plenty o safeties in the draft and money in FA not to have to resort to that!

A one leg Earl Thomas is better than Heath in his prime! At the least the cowboys should look into ET. Awuzie would be a better FS than SS. As he can see plays on front of him and help corners. Good safety play can make average corners look elite

ET is a broken down undersized safety looking for a massive end of career payout at this point. Awuzie has much more value as a corner than he does as a poor talking safety. Its not like there aren't much better options out there!

A down year??? When was his "up" year????

Belichek would have let him go long ago, and would have cycled through safeties if necessary year after year. This coaching staff needs to recognize much earlier when changes must be made.
He’s been horrible since he stepped into a starting position.

Last year, Heath was the best FS we had on the team, and the best FS we've had in a long time.

Thanks for the post. Anybody defending Heath just got the ignore button. There’s no way anybody watching him play since he became a starter can defend him if they know anything about safety play at the NFL level.
