Should Linehan be fired?

Just curious of the mindset of fans on what you would like to see in terms of an OC. Would you look for a person who has been an OC and has called the plays or would you like to see someone who has worked under an OC for a while and this would be their 1st opportunity at calling plays? I'm not asking to say what would be the right thing or wrong thing just trying to get a sense of what people would like to see.

Personally? I don't have a locked in preference for either one in that area.

In fact, I'd take another head coaches entirely - like Sean Payton - and have him run the offense.

I'd take what some call a retread in Norv Turner, as I think he'd call a game better suited to the players' strengths.

And I'd take an assistant moving up into the role, as long as they came from a captive background.

I'm not picky, I just know that the current arrangement doesn't work and has to change.

No, not if Jason Garrett stays; it's his offense. Linehan is just a puppet OC.

He actually might be okay running his own offense but we will never know as long as JG is the HC.

Turner has had his moment but is currently in his 1st season with Carolina but you would figure he would have to be offered more than an OC spot for Carolina to let him walk on a lateral move, unless they were not happy with him.

You just can't sell this fan base on Linehan anymore.

Even if it's Garretts offense still you can't trot Linehan out there again after we just spent the entire offseason criticizing Dez Bryant and how we couldn't be dynamic because of him.

We were supposed to do all these different things offensively and the offense looks as old and stale as it always does.

Back to back offseasons we are talking about how trash the offense is.

We can either keep waiting for that special day when the stars perfectly align and the most amazing roster of talent appears on the football field for us and then we can just be as bland and as basic as we want or we can do what the 4 remaining playoff teams do an embrace the chess side of football and start being more deceptive with our offense.

The FO needs to establish what kind of system fits Dak and then hire someone that can bring that system. Or, bring in several applicants and ask how they would use Dak to bring out the best in him. I dont think we need to make him a runner but we need to use more play action and roll outs.

The Dallas offense needs a functional edge, and Linehan doesn't seem to provide that.

I get the overall feeling, but simply put would you look for someone with skins on the wall but has been fired or would you look to give a young assistant coach a try who has served behind a HC\OC or a top OC who is not leaving?

Yep. That's what I would have to figure. Or it could just be one veteran coach honoring the wishes of another? Professional courtesy and respect. With Newton's shoulder issue, maybe he's wise to want a change of scenery?

Can we stop with the same thread every day or at least merge them? </rant>

Not sure how this is the same thread. I'm only interested in if fans were looking for an experienced OC or a young assistant who has never had play calling duties buy has worked in successful offensives over a period of time?

Allow me to play devil's advocate and I am not a Linehan fan, wasn't when they hired him.

Is his play calling affected and limited by what he's seen his QB do in practice and games? We've seen him miss simple passes that NFL QB's complete in their sleep. If this has affected his calling, might that continue with the next guy concerned about turnovers and confidence in his QB? And his QB's confidence?

Has Linehan been playing it safe by calling it safe because he called it a little different at DET with Stafford and Johnson? Does the fact his team had a good D, particularly scoring D, allow him to call a safer game?

With Linehan, I am like I am about Garrett. Don't just fire him, tell me who his replacement is because if you think it can't get worse, you ignore history.

We should upgrade if we can. That’s what the Senior Bowl is for.

I'm no Linehan hater but I will say many did not like his play calling when Romo was QB. Some may even feel he is not getting the most out of Dak. I don't know.

I would go young and with fresh ideas...as something right now, will develop a new wrinkle that dominates current schemes. Kind of like when Buddy Ryan was with Chicago and developed the 4-6 defense. He unleashed his defensive lineman to attack. They loved it as well.

I say Yes but only if I know who the replacement will be..

lol those saying hes Jasons puppet is laughable so if Jason's puppet hes also a puppet puppeting another puppet..right keep them coming..

theres only a few and I mean few HCs that had cart blanch to do whatever they want without going through the Owner and GM..Everyone in here knows the daily ops of all the teams, right? NO none do, most HC have to consult the GM who ahs to then consult the owner and presidents etc..its how it works, issue here is Jerrys all 3 lol it just skips the size of the table needed for these meetings..
Id like new OC for sure but if now what we cry over it..we cant control these things so stay tuned..

I get that but simply put if you were going to pick an OC would you look for someone who has done the job calling plays but also has been fired along the way or would you look to a younger assistant who has worked in quality offenses behind a top OC and this would be their 1st chance to become an OC and call the plays. At one point in every coaches life they got their 1st chance as the play caller.

Do I think he needs to be fired? ABSOLUTELY!

Is it practical to fire him? That's a different issue. It does no good to fire someone of you aren't going to substantially improve your team by doing so. At least he knows the strengths and weaknesses of his players even if he is too idiotic to use that to the team's advantage.

While I KNOW he NEEDS to be fired, there may be practical reasons not to do so in the short run.

Great post bro. It shows you understand the dynamics. They can't be ignored whether they are good, or not.

The Garrett offense has to go.
Linehan has to go.

I wouldn't mind a veteran OC or a new OC who's calling plays for the first time as long as they've been coaching in some capacity a while under someone who 1) Innovates, 2) Makes freaking adjustments, 3) Gameplans for each team rather than use the same thing over and over and just hoping players execute perfectly and other teams don't. 4) Teaches Garrett that mediocrity isn't acceptable (if Garrett is going to continue to be inflicted on us.)
