I'm in the corner that says, if you give someone a job, let them do their job.

I'm not a fan of Jerry dictating to his head coach who is going to be his offensive coordinator.
And I don’t think it works that way. Just like the draft, I think it’s a group thing and JG is part of that group
Fans like to think jerry decides everything on his own but reality is much different
Ask Johnny Manzel, he knows

I agree
And Jerry pretty much said the guy they want is with a team in playoffs
May not get him but that appears to be the first choice

Not to repeat myself ad nauseum, but I go so far as to believe Linehan wouldn't have been let go yet if they didn't know, albeit through back channel conversations, that their first choice is both available and very interested.

Get that Texas HS coach who goes for it on 4th down from his own 5 yard line and on sides kicks all the time.

I wonder if the Colts fans that were all gung ho when Reich went for it on 4th down in OT against Houston realize that move ultimately cost them the division and a home playoff game?

True, true.

Mike McCarthy is another guy to watch. He is a HC/OC combo who has a ring...AND IS AVAILABLE.

Based on the candidates we'd look at....just like Garrett be the OC. Let him go down with the sinking ship of a playbook. If we aren't changing offenses or playbooks then what is the point of changing OC's? Just let Garrett do it.

Cowboys on Coley, Campbell, Nussmeier - and Kellen Moore stays?

Coley, 45, favors some of the same stuff Garrett does (two tight ends) but does not favor running the ball into eight-man fronts (like Linehan and maybe Garrett obviously do). He's a Nick Saban guy and worked under him, and with Garrett, with the Miami Dolphins. He can call plays, he can bring a "college system'' philosophy here, and he can do "space age.'' And we're starting to learn that he's a personal friend of Garrett's, too -- and don't make fun of this. It's a good thing, not a bad thing.

Linehan is the 48-year-old Nussmeier's mentor, and maybe you see that as a bad thing, too. I also hear from Florida Gators fans and Michigan fans who didn't like his work as a play-caller there. But the former NFL backup QB is now in the Cowboys family, gained influence toward the end of the season, and while Linehan I'm told in the face of Cowboys criticism both "curled up into a protective ball'' and "dug his heels in,'' Nussmeier seems more "open'' in his style. Oh, and Nussmeier coached under Saban as well, and was the offensive coordinator for a time at Bama when Amari Cooper was there.

A name like the New Orleans Saints' Dan Campbell is a good one here, too. He's 42, he's "colorful'' in a way that Linehan is not, and yes, he comes from the "tree'' and from the "family.'' He is now the assistant head coach under Sean Payton -- Jerry's remark about "opportunity'' suggests an examination of the four coaching staffs about to play in the conference championship games, and of course, I'm obliged to cover Sean Payton himself here, too -- but maybe titles aren't as much an issue here as being money-whipped. Jerry's Cowboys do that better than anybody. Campbell not only coaches with Payton, he also played in Dallas and of course he's from Texas A&M. Family, y'all.

I agree with this. He only has a year left on his contract. Don't give him an extension and let next year be the prove it year.

Right. At this point....he has a job because his team doesn't quit on him. He doesn't call the offense so he can't get fired for his OC duties......if you are going to keep this offense let him coach it. It makes no sense to force someone else to do it.

You'll get a lot of tough talking between Campbell and Richard towards the players
