I'm convinced, it needs to happen

This would also be my chief concern, but with COllins to LG, you have 4 good to great lineman and 1 shaky starter, as opposed to 3 great lineman and 2 shakey starters.

The ONE thing I would say is to not over estimate how good Collins is at LG. He's definitely better there than at RT, but he was regularly outperformed by Ronald Leary. He was a decent LG, not a dominant one.

I wouldn't deny that. He wasn't Larry Allen there, but we agree he was better. And sometimes, he had dominating plays. Conversely, I can't remember the last dominant play he showed at right tackle.

Getting our All Pro Center back might help.....

That's a BIG question mark. Even if he comes back will he be performing at the same All Pro level?

Conner playing C?? I would rather him at RT but this FO/Coaching not exactly great at optimizing talent on the roster.

Collins at guard is a big thing for run blocking. Big reason for 2016 team going 13 and 3. The inside of the line just blasted the other team off the line and Dallas kept the ball for 75 percent of the game :):welcome::welcome::welcome:

Actually, that was Leary's year there. Collins only played the first three games before a toe injury ended his season.

The more I look at things, the clearer it gets. The more film I watch, the more draft reports I read, and the more bad short yardage and goal line stats make clear, change needs to happen on the offensive line.

La'el Collins needs to go back to left guard. The 6'4" 320 lb lineman needs to go back to mauling people in a phone booth. To driving opponents off the ball in front of him. To move away from being unsure of himself, and who to block, and back to lining up and doing what he does best. You want to improve in short yardage situations? Line Collins up inside and let him do what he does best, drive people off the ball. Have two strengths at guard, on both sides, rather than having to pull your left guard to try to get any sort of movement. Stop playing with one arm tied behind your back.

At nearly $10 million in cap hit, Collins isn't worth the money at right tackle. He just might be at guard.

Connor Williams needs to go back to playing tackle. Right tackle, left tackle, swing tackle, any tackle. At 6'5" and 300 lbs, he's simply miscast inside. It may have made sense on paper, but it doesn't and never did on the field. Move him away from being bullrushed and run over and allow him to use his best attributes, feet and agility, to move on the perimeter and mirror pass rushers. Get better in pass protection by having a tackle play tackle.

As a second round draft pick, Williams is a liability, not an asset at guard. He lost the job to Xavier Su'a Filo for much of the season, and only got it back after the street free agent was hurt.

As it stands today, the team has two guys playing out of position, and it's hurting both of them and the team. Two guys trying to be something they're not. And it needs to end.
I have made this same comment for a while. I think that would make a big difference to the OL and getting Fredrick back

I wouldn't be surprise if Dallas drafts a Center as some TFred insurance, even tho I think Looney did an admiral job.

I don't discount that as a possibility. That's why if it were up to me, I'd keep Fleming and draft a mid round tackle as well.

Between Tyron Smith and Collins there are enough questions at tackle already.
I certainly hope we can find a mid rnd tackle that can develope but my gut tells me it will be a higher pick next year

Su'a Filo brought more power in the run game. The team wasn't forced into being right handed and pulling him to get any movement.

The fact that Williams lost the job for several weeks shows that there were obvious issues. And he got it back only after Su'a Filo was injured.
Sua'Filo wasn't better than Williams and in fact he struggled in pass protection that he would turn the defender and push him resulting in sending him right into Dak. Columbo changed the OL scheme and Sua'Filo only got the start bare Williams was injured. Even are Sua'Filo got hurt when he was healthy he didn't take the start back at LG from Williams.

He never got fully healthy.

Need an offensive genius to come in and announce it though, the same way Kris Richard had to come in and tell Rod, Jason, Jerry and son the same crap we the fans already knew about Byron Jones playing out of position.

La'El Collins was a really good right tackle for us this season, and Connor Williams (despite being woefully undersized/powered physically as a rookie) played pretty dynamite late in the season in wins subbing for both Su'a-Filo & Zack Martin. They were both good-and-should-get-better right where they are.

Hilarious I just read this after I commented on the trade Looney thread and said the exact same thing! Nice Stash and I totally agree. Connor is NOT a guard.

I've been slow to the party, but Bro you right. Where this OL is right now they need to move LC back to RG.

I'm one who wasn't impressed by LC's work before, and I thought Leary was better. This is a new day tho.

Lastly, if LC stays at RT he probably won't be a Cowboy after this season. That's why draft a mid-OT is on the wish list. Re-siging Fleming is a good idea too.

Team first.
