Should Dallas not extend Zeke?

I haven't seen any evidence that EZ is a team leader.
He leads the huddle with the pep talk before taking the field. Go back and look at the on the field like up videos. Most of the interviews he did during the season he spoke in a leader mode. Don't have to be a captain all the time to be a leader.

I'll have to start paying more attention.

He does seem to have cut his crapp off the field.

Might not be a popular thing to talk about. But might be the smart thing to do. The Cowboys made that absolute right decision not to resign DeMarco Murray fresh off an 1800 yard season. He was the 4th best player in the league at the time, according to the top 100 players. He was also a 3rd round 71st player taken in the draft. Solid RB's can be found in the later rounds.

He also lasted only 3 years after the Cowboys wisely let him walk. They could have been on the hook with him like they were with Marion Barber. Paying for a player that wasn't even in the league anymore.

Murray 934 att 4526 yds 28 TDs 1200 receiving 1 TD (remember that TD? Skins?)
Elliott 868 att 4048 yds 28 TDs 1199 receiving 6 TDs

Similar Stats. Although Murray's are over 4 years, he wasn't used as much his rookie year and only had about 500 yards. They are doing the same thing with Zeke. Running him into the ground. He will blow by Murray's carry totals easily this coming year. They've been lucky he's been so durable. There is nobody behind him. The smart move may be franchising him for a year possibly, and then say adios.
And after Murray left our running game was toward the bottom of the league. You do not let fire power like Zeke walk!

Valid point. I would certainly inquire as to what he thinks he should get. If its at least reasonable then that might be the way to go. But if hes asking for 15 million per season I say no way. Personally, I would have no problem trading him. But that would never happen.

At a min, his numbers will be top 3. Notice RB numbers below......Gurley and Bell just a little over $14M then a pretty huge dropoff. So looks like you nailed it.......$15M will get it done.

Unless it’s a real sweat heart of a deal because he wants to retire A Cowboy then I am not doing it. At this point it’s a prove it incentive based deal...

He stepped his game up as a leader this year. Before that he was just one of the guys but I think the coaches pushed him into that role.

That would be idiotic. More fear from the "men" these days.

Zeke is 23 years old. He's one of the greats the position has seen over the last 20 years. He's nothing like DeMarco Murray, who I campaigned for not bringing back.

Not only should they extend Elliott, they should do it this offseason. Give him a new deal that takes him to 30 years of age. It would be one of the safest contracts in the league as only an unforeseen injury would give you buyers remorse.

This, best back in the game. Yes we know Gurley, Bell, the gnats back, the panthers back but too me Zeke is better.

With Dak as our QB it's a great thing.

No, it's not. That's the biggest problem right there "Dak as our QB" - that should be the focus, not paying out the butt for an elite RB that we know won't bring us a championship.

Dak sucks. Elliott is a great player at a position that is short lived and doesn't lead to championships. So, our formula being based around "run 35 times a game" is simply a losing strategy.

The only thing that will get Dak a Super Bowl is a true elite defense. That's it. Nothing else will matter, no matter the skill position around him.

Zeke is going to try to make the case he's the absolute best RB in the NFL - and seeing as how fans continue pushing this crap and he's a jersey seller, he might get far more than he's worth.

I tell ya one this I would do with him whether they extend him or not, I would lay down the law, no hurdling tacklers. While that might look cool, that will eventually result with time on the sideline and could be extended time. This offense with him is mediocre, without him it's really challenged.

Would you pay any RB big money?

If so then Zeke is definitely a guy you pay big money to.

Why would you draft a RB 4th overall for one contract?

You make that decision thinking the player is great. The player then proves he is great. You get scared that he may break down at some point and let him leave in his mid 20s.

Make sense to anybody?

They drafted him to be Emmitt Smith and that's exactly what he is. Man up and enjoy the ride.

I'm not sure I see the problem of him getting $15m per. No question he's a top 3. You can probably split hairs between him and Gurley who better. Gurley is right at $14.5M per on a deal that will be two years old next season. So we're only talking a range of 500K.

It depends on what his contract demands are and what your replacement options are. Tank gets 8 sacks per season. Elliott touches the ball 30 times per game. Tank doesn't have 20 percent of the impact on the team that Elliott does.

Oh, totally. I don't think it's true that we should re-sign Tank at all costs. But if we're thinking in terms of Value Over Replacement Player, a modern offense SHOULD have a much easier time replacing Elliott's production than a defense would trying to replace Tank's production. Take Gurley vs. Anderson, for example. It's much harder to do that with pass rushers.
