Haven't watched it yet. I really want a great TE, but I wouldn't mind a stud DT. Not sure I think we should get a guy who can't start in 2019, unless he's a Aaron Donald clone.

You apparently haven’t watched Simmons play. And boy, I’ll bet you’re glad we didn’t take Jaylon because he couldn’t start right away.

There is a video of Simmons repeatedly punching a woman on the ground. He was not invited to the combine because of it. So not only is there the ACL issue, but there is a very serious character issue. No way would I use my 2nd round pick on this guy. With the Cowboys not having a 1st rounder they can’t afford to risk the 2nd rounder on a guy with so much baggage.

I haven’t heard anything about a character issue. I’ve actually heard the opposite that he’s done a complete 180.

Taking 2nd rounders that have to sit for the year like Jaylon are a waste at this point. This team needs to win NOW. We have a young team that needs to win NOW. Pushing this stuff into the future any longer just makes Zeke and the OL a year older. The time is NOW, we need an impact player to heavily contribute this year!

While it would be a value pick at your spot, you can’t go away with no impact players until round 3. Remember the special teams draft?

Likely, Simmons will miss this year, and be super rusty year 2 as most ACL players are. So what would be a normal rookie year performance may not be seen until 2021 from the guy.

You don’t think repeatedly hitting a helpless woman laying on the ground presents a character Issue? The NFL apparently did, because they chose not to invite him to the combine. Besides, if there were no character issue, what is he turning 180 degrees from?

Granted that was a couple of years ago, so maybe he’s a changed man. I don’t know. But we aren’t talking about youthful indiscretion here. This isn’t a DWI, or being drunk in public, or damage to property or smoking pot. A very large, very strong male who is capable of repeatedly punching a helpless female on the ground is a concern.

Medical redshirt first round player has Jerry written all over him in the 2nd, especially that late in the round. And Collins is in a contract year. We need a 3T in 2020.

I'd be surprised if he's available and we don't take him.

Top 5 player....this is the Randy Gregory situation all over....except your dealing w/ injury/baggage vs the drugs. If we had a 1st...I'd say take the gamble....but we don't. We need to hit on that pick...right now. This can't be a 2009 draft.

Have you seen the video or read his explanation why he (in high school at the time) reacted the way he did in order to protect his sister? Plus, he has done a complete 180° and been an outstanding athlete and teammate in college. If you watch the video, it wasn't as bad as people are making it out to be.

I did see the video, and the woman was helpless on the ground and no threat to his sister as he repeatedly punched her. Sure, he could have done even worse, but it was pretty darn bad as it was.

Again, maybe he is a changed man, but it is not just explainable as a simple youthful indiscretion, and it is a red flag a team has to at least be aware of. Certainly an NFL team that signs him has to be aware that the NFL, who governs the teams and players, has such a dim view of the guy they refused to let him participate in the combine.

But again, even aside from all that, the further a team gets into the draft the lower the odds of finding immediate contributors, and given that the team doesn’t have a first round pick, the Cowboys need someone in the 2nd round who can contribute right away.

The situation was bad. Not running from that. He made a mistake. What else can he do? He’s done everything he was suppose to do. Do you judge him based on what he’s done in college as a adult or do you judge based on what he did as a child?

It’s a sticky situation. But this team shouldn’t be on its high horse now with the scum they’ve let on this team.

I’m not saying a guy doesn’t ever deserve a second chance, just that it has to be part of the evaluation, especially knowing that the NFL already has a dim view of him to the point they refused to invite him to the combine. I just think with the combination of factors - that incident, the ACL injury, and the fact the Cowboys don’t have a 1st round pick - it’s pretty tough to gamble in the second round because if the gamble doesn’t pay off the entirety of the draft will ride on picks from the 3rd round a later.

You are right. I don’t know if I use my second rounder on him or even a 3rd. I don’t think he’s going to be taken as early as some think but you never know. The acl injury already pushed his status a round at least. How much the situation in high school hurts him could be a few rounds. Teams may not want to take that pr hit on draft night.
