He is our best pass rushing Dlinemen & probably one of our best against the run. Sorry I don't know his actual run stopping stats, but he is good at it. Why do we want to get rid of him?

Tank isn’t going anywhere but if we got two firsts then ok, that is cool.. Doubt it though...

some do not want to hear it (nor do I) but Tank could very well be traded. We have no 1st rounder, we get a shot at 2 1st rounders for him he could be gone.

Dallas can put that to the test by just putting him on the "non exclusive" franchise tag. Although I don't suggest that for other reasons, I bet you there will be no takers. I love Tank, but he's not getting Dallas two first round picks.

Wait...

Isn’t it against the collective bargaining agreement rules to franchise a player just to trade him?
That a way of blocking a free agent from choosing his destination and getting what the open market will give him.

The team just has to show that they tried to sign him but they couldn't come to an agreement on a deal .

Look at Jarvis Landry last year

Considering he had only had one distinguished season out of 4, I understood why they wanted to wait.
When you have a guy in the building every day for a number of years, there should be enough info on him to determine whether or not he is a keeper. Throughout the 2017 season, analysts raved about his abilities as a complete DE and his motor. It finally clicked for DLaw that year. They should have traded him last year if they were not sold on him as their top DL. The franchise tag is good for some situations, not for guys you intend to keep.

They had him in the building in 2014 and 2015 and he got suspended in 2016. In all, between suspensions and injuries he missed 9 games as a rookie, and 7 games in 2015. That was the issue - not his abilty to play, but his ability to be available and consistent. I can understand looking for consistency before paying a huge contract.

We will sign him or tag him. If Irving had got himself straightened out and played well with Gregory then maybe he is more expendable. But not now.

The Cowboys were dumb not to get him extended before last season.

They've certainly cost themselves a lot of money. The top of the market contracts for Khalil Mack and Aaron Donald have reset the market, and given players like Lawrence and his agent, new marks to shoot for. I'm not saying he's in that realm or will get that money, but that the stakes have been raised. The cost has undeniably gone up.

What do you think the team will do in Tanks absence?

Options?

1. Play Gregory and Crawford at DE.
2. Play Gregory and Armstrong
3. Play Gregory and Taco.
4. Play Gregory and a free agent or draft pick.

While this may not sound appealing to some, Crawford isn't a bad DE, and you have to realize Tank took time to develop. There is a reasonable expectation that Armstrong or Taco may improve substantially this year.

I think Taco is weak as a pass rusher but is good at stopping the run. How much is the 5 or 6 sack difference worth?
We would have to sign Tank in order to trade him.

Or if Taco Charlton wasn't on his way to bust status. The fact that he looks like a complete miss makes keeping Lawrence mandatory at this point.

Lets tag dlaw another year and so give Tacco some more time to develop.

Tacco was drafted to be dlaws successor. He just needs to get better against the run. He is bad at containing the edge right now. But with some more HGH in the offseason he will be a good LDE. And a cheap one too.

Crawford is another story.
