Let's say Tank is traded

Generally Agreed. But like the 3rd post someone made mention of getting 2 first rounders for him. I consider that a dumb deal on the other team and would take 2 first rounders any day for an aging player. It'll probably not happen, but that's the kind of trade people have made in the past for someone like Tank.

I would be HIGHLY surprised if someone gave 2 First for Tank, but if they do I'm on that trade like a big dog on a toy poodle.

I wasn’t thrilled qbout the Cooper trade at first either, although like with most things I was willing to at least give it a chance before judging too harshly. But after watching him play I’m pretty happy about the deal.

I'm a big fan of picks. We've been hitting them well, and they're *so* much cheaper.

Amari is 14 just for next year, then projection around 17 for a new contract.

Amari for 64mil for 4 years plus a free half year vs. our first round picks since 2010 for 10mil + 5th year option.

I like the picks better. Not all of them, but most, and for a number of them, I like the player better straight up.

The pick gives me a first rounder at 10mil plus 50mil+ leftover to get someone else in free agency, or extend one of our own. It's just better. And I've got no complaints about Cooper's play.

I share your enthusiasm for the picks, which is why I initially was skeptical about the trade for Cooper. But at the end of the day the point of drafting (and trading) is to build a team, and if you don’t keep a foundation of many of the most solid pieces accumulated in the building process, the building never gets completed. In other words, younger and cheaper can be a good thing, but it can’t be the only thing. Younger and cheaper, while an important part of the process, is also less proven and carries a risk of ending up with lesser quality than a proven player. So there has to be a mix of strong foundational pieces, even if they are costly, and younger cheaper people being developed.

I swear people on this board care more about cap space than actually winning. We aren’t the Patriots. This idea of long term sustained success in the nfl is a fairy tale. We have a small window and should be trying to win while we can...the cap situation isn’t going to get any better trying to keep our own young players either.

The key is to be smart with how contracts are structured and not hurt ourselves down the road. Front load the contracts with sizable signing bonuses.

The Dallas FO has already made it abundantly clear that they fully intend to retain Tank. Accordingly, they intend to negotiate with him to settle the question of what to agree upon him in consideration a possible contract.

If Tank and his agent's demands are such that they aren't able to agree upon a mutually acceptable contract, it's entirely possible, if not likely, that they would choose to franchise tag him once again. In fact, I think that is what is likely to occur.

The FO has already made it clear that they're not entertaining any thoughts of trading him. I believe what will eventually happen next year at this time is that the matter would be up to both parties to deal with, minus any consideration of this website's consensus of opinions. ;)

Outside of Law we really don't have much. Can't depend on RG. Let's say we ship Law for a couple of 1's, nothing top 15. and RG relapse. This team is doom. If anything I'm willing to ship out Jones.

I don't care if a trade offer comes the day after RG is featured on the cover of High Times. If they're offering 2 first round picks, I'm taking it.

There's nobody on the Cowboys I wouldn't trade for 2 firsts.

Yes, and you show up like a moth to the flame. Thanks for dropping in. It always nice to see what people think who are riding the short bus. Thumbs up on diversity of opinions.

Diversity of opinions.

LOL. This is what you do. You find a high priced player to rail on and on and on and on about. This won't be your last thread on Lawrence, for sure. And the posts will vary from straight out ripping to the player to the passive aggressive thread you started here.

This is simple. Lawrence is our best DL. Lawrence is our best pass rusher. You remove him from the equation, and this is a mediocre DL. So if you move on from Lawrence, you better have a plan that brings in some better talent along the DL because no, a starting lineup of Gregory, Armstrong/Charlton (and no, he's not better against the run), Woods and Crawford/Collins, is not good enough.

I think we'd be lucky to get one first round pick, much less two. In any case, the FO has already said they won't consider a trade.

Where will the production cone from? That's the main issue.

Thanks.
But why would the Eagles not keep Foles yet the Cowboys would keep Lawrence?
How is this determined? The eagles picked up Foles option. Why would they do that if they dont intend to keep him?
I would say it more likely the Cowboys decided Lawrence isnt worth the cost and they dont intend to keep him. We havent made any commitment to him like the Eagles have Foles.
(all hypothetical of course. D Law isnt going anywhere)
Foles has an out on the option but they can franchise him.

If they franchise him it's not for the purpose of keeping him which is technically against the rules.

No team will keep a backup QB at 25M for the season.

What if they trade Wentz..... it is a very easy dodge and not worth talking about....it happens every year

They aren't.

Everyone from the owner down to the coach has said Wentz is their QB going forward.

Tank has zero years on his contract, and would be on a 1 year franchise tag. There are very few times ever where any team has traded 2 first round picks for any player in any situation, and a D-Law type player with a one year franchise tag is not one of those kinds of situations.
These trades happen a lot in the NFL

Teams are given a window to reach a new deal

They are not trading for one years service... they almost always include an extension
