The CBA is going to get nasty. On the money side, ratings are falling and the NFL's lifeblood of network TV revenue is just about tapped out. And there are some huge grievances on the players' end that they're going to fight - drug policy, arbitrary commish suspensions, Thursday night games that get a ton of players injured coming off short weeks - it's going to be a mess. I honestly think those negotiations could make or break the future of the sport.
Keep the money the same and let them do deugs if they sign a waiver. Lol.

I've heard and read in numerous places that Texans owner Bob McNair's passing really affected Jerry, and made him much more aware of his own mortality.

I don't think he will act as patiently as he has recently. And the trade of this year's 1st round pick may have been the first sign.

Putting Garrett in a do or die contract year may be another.
we can hope stash for me the garrett deal was a big thing

I respectfully disagree.

I think the players will get pantsed again, just like they did the last time.

And here's why:

On one side of the table, you have billionaire owners, each and every one set for life with more money that they or their heirs could ever spend. They could never make another dime and be just fine in life. The NFL could shut down tomorrow and every one of these guys would be just fine.

On the other side? You have players who blow through millions of dollars every year as if it was Monopoly money. People who "take care of" every friend and backwoods relative they have. Millionaires who for the most part still manage to live paycheck to paycheck.

You can go back and look at the lengths players were going during the last CBA negotiations in order to get some fast cash. It was ridiculous. And those same broke player were running to their union reps screaming to get a deal done and get that money coming in again.

Nothing has changed, and nothing will. The owners run the league with an iron fist and that's not going to change, unless someone else steps up with an awful lot of money to challenge the NFL. But at this point, everyone else is a penny-pinching cheapskate unwilling to take the risk of actually challenging.

Same here. If patience has actually worn out for 'The Chosen One', you know it's worn out everywhere. They're fixin' to do something drastic in my opinion.

This means they make an actual run at Earl Thomas.
Hope not. I just don't think he can/will stay healthy after last years injury. Pay him big bucks and then he sits on the bench all year.

It will probably happen but I for one don't want it to.

Guys the money 5 positions are QB, DE, CB, LT, and WR. We literally have pro-bowl/all-pro players that need to be resigned at 4 of those spots. Include Zeke who will most definitely get a deal and your about tied up. What kind of fanbase thinks drafting/developing All-Pros and letting them walk makes sense? We want to sign other teams All-Pros? Why?

We have a very good foundation for a dominant team with high quality players at almost every position group. Why would we not want to sign our own guys? Literally makes no logical sense lol

Unfortunately most of us live in 1993, but we forget it’s 2019 and the salary cap now exists. In what world would an NFL team have enough money to sign 5 All-Pro/Pro-Bowl guys and then go out and sign 2 more from another team?

We may be able to work some things around to where we hold Zeke off for a year and grab one impact guy in FA. But even that’s a stretch. Why do y’all feel like it’s possible to be big players in FA? The logistics do not reflect that at all

It has ZERO to do with ratings. The league is still wildly popular to watch.

Youth football participation is WAY down. Here in Texas, a lot of leagues have been reduced from 8-10 teams down to 2-3. Moms are preventing their boys from playing football.

And the lawsuits are brewing. One or two successful cases, and you'll see football get dropped from high schools one by one. Colleges will largely do the same, especially with the high school talent pool dried up.

The dominoes will eventually fall, and you'll have an NFL with no pool of players to draft from.

Will you be interested in that?

It has to do with ratings, but not really so much the NFL's ratings. The NFL package has always been a loser for the broadcast networks - taken strictly on face value. The real value of the NFL is for the network to promote their other properties. With the ratings dropping across the board for virtually all network/cablenet programming due to cord cutting, the impact of promoting through the NFL has been diminished.

Of course, the NFL will pitch this as an advantage. While the networks may not get as much impact promoting their own shows/channels during an NFL game - the value of those spots will grow exponentially as people continue to cut the cord and the target markets get splintered into many different places. What other programming reaches across all media formats more than the NFL?

Paying a 37-year old 4 or 5 times what he's worth anymore? Very promising start.

There you have it......now win mode. Guess the question now is defining Stephen's definition of aggressive(lol).

He probably only means as far as re-signing "our personnel."

If we go aggressively after top free agents, I will be totally surprised.
