I not a huge fan of this. He was a shell of a player his last few seasons and he has been away for a year.
He's here for all the Y option plays. My biggest worry about Witten coming back was the team giving him is old role back. The man ran 97% of the snaps the last season he played. We can all agree he’s too slow now to be that guy. The only way I would be cool with him on the team would be in a redzone, run-blocking, 3rd down role. Well it looks like that’s whats going to happen..

This would be unlike the typical homer FO move if we actually made him the niche player he should be. And predictability isn’t an issue with Witten because he’s the classic “know what’s coming can’t stop it guy”. Just not at a 97% snap count rate. I know approve of this move by the FO.
What about y’all?
$3.5 million base. Not bad for top 10 TE. Kind of makes the Gregory pain a little more bearable since we won't have to focus on TE high in the daft and can focus on DE/DT
Yeah that’s the next step once you’re done dusting off your relics: trade for guys you already have.
For what? A new washing machine for the uniforms?
You irascible rapscallion you! I just knew you were going to get all cray and throw stuff at innocent peeps with brutish force. You know? With him having had a year off, this might actually work. He had time to rest and get his body right. I think he might come back with a bit of a vengeance, and maybe a bit of reinventing. Plus, he's been able to see the weaknesses of teams that we're likely to face. This could be quite good.

We'll get laughed at. That's what we'll get.Anything we can get.
Reading comprehension off a bit?
Yeah the man was literally the only option that year. If your slot is getting doubled you got a pass catching problem. I’m not sure what your point is but I don’t think Witten is a 97% snap count guy at this stage in his career. 2017’s catch #’s are irrelevant as it doesn’t translate into him being the starter.I didn't realize you had a vote.
In 2017 at the age of 90 and playing with a walker, he had 63 catches. That would have been 8th in the NFL in catches for a TE last year - and we didn't have any type of safety valve for Dak to dump off to.
No doubt Witten will be in a reduced role, but in the season you are complaining about he still was one of the better TEs in football.

Now all we have to do is justify:
1. Why we’re paying $3.5M - $5M for a niche player; and
2. How a niche guy who is well past his best before date properly addresses our need at TE.
But, sure, once someone does that I’m all for it.
AP said 1 year $5 MIL. I'd post the link, but things are just to crazy around here to keep track of what news sources can even be linked....Very embarassing.
And I assume he will be coming back with his previous contract.
