Witten needs to sit his arse down somewhere and let the dynamic young talent develop.

Witten plays Linebacker?

The TEs on our roster have combined for 42 catches over their combined careers. If that's dynamic young talent, please kill me now.

I didn't realize you had a vote.

In 2017 at the age of 90 and playing with a walker, he had 63 catches. That would have been 8th in the NFL in catches for a TE last year - and we didn't have any type of safety valve for Dak to dump off to.

No doubt Witten will be in a reduced role, but in the season you are complaining about he still was one of the better TEs in football.
He doesn't have a vote. And, luckily, neither do you.

He’s still a better blocker, receiver, route runner than any TE on the team.
So he’s slower....great! Play Witten and Jarwin together. No LB can cover Witten, and Jarwin will have room to run the seam routes.

You can’t always be young at every position. This is the kind of vet leadership and short yardage/red zone move that winning teams make.
Yeah, the rust just comes off magically:rolleyes:

I just posted this a second ago in a different thread, the TEs on our roster have combined for 42 catches over their entire careers. In 2017 the offense Witten had slowed down, Dez lost a step, Zeke was suspended and we played a carboard cutout at LT for half the season - and Witten had 63 catches.

I am a little bit surprised that some people think that Witten can play at a high level. He hasn't been able to block for several years. He's a liability as a player.

Yes, Jerry's House of Charity is open.
Jerry loves all his players, regardless of production, viability, age, speed or attitudes.
Let's also bring in the rehabbed Dez, keep the gimpy Lee, unleash the slow and rusty Witten and keep hoping the Learning on the Job Dak learns to throw down field and be more accurate!!!

It's Old Home week in Dallas, where charity takes priority over winning.

We should've taken a chance on Tyler Eifert.

More upside to be an actual impact player instead of a player like Witten who will be limited.

Now all we have to do is justify:

1. Why we’re paying $3.5M - $5M for a niche player; and

2. How a niche guy who is well past his best before date properly addresses our need at TE.

But, sure, once someone does that I’m all for it.

The money is a bit too high for a niche player.

That being said. I’m not too upset about a player being overpaid during a season when the cowboys have a ton of cap space and paying Witten 5 mil for one year will have no effect on their ability to sign people.

That being said, if the FO tries to sell Witten returning as a major acquisition and using it as an excuse to not be aggressive in FA. Then I’ll be pissed.

The Boys should have said thanks but no thanks...we are getting young and faster, not older and slower..

You irascible rapscallion you! I just knew you were going to get all cray and throw stuff at innocent peeps with brutish force.

Sir! You need to calm down! I'm only going to ask this once!

Haha. I can assure you that I am quite calm, but excited to see that Witten is back. I think it'll be quite good for us, and Dak clearly lacked a TE in the red zone last year. Who better than Witten that knows the offence?

Man, I love Witt but 90% of the guys on this board could beat him in the 40.

You could literally time him with a sun dial his last season here...………...Now he takes a year off on top of that?

And we are paying him $5 million also...……...I just dont know what to think about this, its just...………..I dont know.
its one yr 3.5 can go to 5 with playing time and production..

Okay... You're simply not cooperating and I'm now forced to- Sir!
Tase him! Just tase this guy! He's obviously on some sort of mutated meth from some God-forsaken country! Probably England... the savages.

At first thought I was excited but now I don't know what to make of this news. Does him coming back stunt the progress of Jarwin. Will Jason even be able to offer that much. He was getting called more and more for holding penalties. Idk man! Sometimes I think this is more of a desperation move. He's what 38 years old?

I'm not sure if he'll be able to play at a high level, but I'm sure he can still at least be a good security blanket for Dak, and he's still someone we can use in different schemes. With our lack of offencive experience and a new OC, this could be what we need. And, sure, maybe he's not the blocker he used to be. However, there are ways to accommodate that. There are loads of TEs even now that are rubbish at blocking.

Haha, terribly sorry for putting a positive light on this.
