You can't play defense against elite offenses with any consistency without a free safety.

Dallas does not have a free safety. Just a bunch of strong safeties pretending to play free safety.

Earl Thomas is the best there is. An all-time great.

The season is already over without him.

So does that mean you’ll stop posting here if we don’t sign him? So dramatic.

And eat a dead cap hit when he declines in 2 years.

I didn't say I would do the deal. I don't want E.T. here, especially for the kind of money that he wants. All I said was that if THEY want him, then they're going to have to pay.

If Witten is worth 3.5mill, and will be closer to 40 than 33, ET is probably worth $13m a year.

He could get it, I don't know.

I don't think he does get "the highest paid safety" award, but lot of teams with a lot of cap.

I'd pay $10m, couple years. Can still use cap to bring in DL.

$10 million is my line as well.

That doesn't bother me as much as he's hoping to be NFL highest paid safety. It's interesting if you remove Berry's contract, the highest paid is well below $10M. Either way, the market will have a ton of avail free agents. Maybe the best way to go and forget ET........

EARL THOMASDB, SEATTLE SEAHAWKS

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports free agent Earl Thomas has "no interest" in giving the Cowboys a hometown discount.
Thomas has been stumping to play for his home-state team for years, but he wants to be properly compensated to do so. That is probably especially true after last year's injury debacle. Per reporter Clarence Hill, Thomas currently maintains hope of becoming the "highest paid safety in the NFL." That could be tough seeing as he's going on 30 and coming off major injury. Eric Berry maintains current honors at $13 million per year.

Who cares really.

When we have players like Witten and DeMarcus Ware playing for reasonable contracts or team friendly deals..

becuz they want to represent the team..

the heck with Thomas.

I am against paying him for his success in Seattle.

It did nothing for us.

We have to pay a raft of players in the next couple of years that have contributed to our legacy.

Earl needs to take his act elsewhere.

Just my opinion.

He shouldn't, But at the same time the Cowboys would be dumb to make him the highest paid safety in the league.

Forget it.

Find somebody else.

By the way, this stance should surprise nobody. Thomas has always made it clear that he's in it for the money and little else. It's never been a secret.

I really want to see us load up and take a shot at a Super Bowl this year and next year

Things will get super fishy with Dak, Cooper, Zeke, LVE, Jaylon, Byron contracts all coming up

He's absolutely not worth the money. Why, he only had 2 INTs against us last time we saw him....

erod, it wasn't over without him in 16 or 18. I do not see him as the missing piece to get a ring. If the offense hadn't been the problem, the team could have made the Big Dance with these Safeties.

I see the back and forth in the thread on paying him or not. I wanna know who else should we look at then? I’m curious to hear opinions.

No surprise. This is his first time hitting the open market, and this opportunity is what players dream about.

Good this team doesn't need a selfish player who couldn't even show up for 9 million last year. Bye bye

Move on. $$$$ is all he is interested in now.
Go in another direction..

Wait, you think athletes play sports for "the love of the game"?? Are you that naive? He just came off a serious injury and plays in the NFL. Of course it's about the money. It is for every player.

Fans expecting these players to take these discounts is silly. Would you take a big discount in salary at your job? Of course you wouldn't, You be be insulted.

Has nothing to do with the salary. Everything to do with the long term security. But when players do this, they are deemed being "selfish" from fans sitting on their couches watching on tv. Not going what they are going through.

Agreed. By 2021 we can move on from ET if necessary or extend him cheaper. Keep Cooper and Gallup long term, consider trading Zeke for a high pick then, keep Jaylon/LVE/Byron together.

Get your money, Earl. When your future is CTE, a career ending injury or other life long ailments I can never knock an football player for asking for their worth.
