47.5 million in cap space

Re-sign
  • DeMarcus Lawrence 5 year 105 million/63 million guaranteed (2019 cap hit 15 million)
  • Cole Beasley 4 year 24 million/17 million guaranteed (2019 cap hit 5 million)
26 million cap space

Extend
  • Amari Cooper 5 year 80 million/52 million guaranteed (2019 cap hit 10.5 million) +3 million in cap savings
29 million cap space

Free agency

12 million on 1 or 2 players

My wish list:
Earl Thomas 4 year 48 million/24 million guaranteed (2019 cap hit 8 million)

Decent starter DT 4 million per year

13 million cap space

6-8 million towards rookie signings (no expensive 1st rounder to sign)

This doesn't even include releasing players like Hurns or Lee that would save the team 12 million in cap space or even restructuring current deals.

5-7 million cap space to carry over for 2020 or have for emergency signings during the season.

2019 Draft

2nd round TE
3rd round DT
4th round WR
4th round comp RB
5th round LB
7th round Best player available

You forgot to include the most important player on the team who needs an extension...our franchise QB...Dak.

Also, let's not forget, Zeke, Jaylon Smith and a few other key players.

So, once again, how are the Cowboys going to afford to bring in such costly outside free agents when they have to secure their own first?

Cole Beasley can walk. Save his money for doing Amari's deal, signing ET and adding to DE and/or DT.

Allen Hurns sounds to be coming back and can play all over the field at WR as Amari Cooper can. He's just not as talented as Cooper and quick in the slot as Beasley. So between Cooper and Hurns moving in and out of the slot to create mismatches and opportunity and possibly a re-signed Tavon Austin, I feel this is where Beasley is replaced. Hurns may also be coming back at a reduced cap hit which I think Stephen Jones may have already worked on since he says Hurns will be back when cutting him would save $6,000,000.

Tavon Austin was paid $1,875,000 last season and is a player I would like to re-sign for 2-3 years at a similar rate. He has that elite speed element and is a much needed spark on returns. He can also run just about all the routes at WR and gadget plays. He can be sprinkled into the slot also with another FA or drafted WR. The team would go into camp with Amari Cooper/Michael Gallup/ Allen Hurns/Tavon Austin/Cedric Wilson/Noah Brown/Devin Smith and/or a draftee or FA. Continuity at the position for Dak and the WR's, talent, youth yet experience and always needed competition to keep everyone sharp.

Tyrone Crawford
is either penciled in as a DT and gets to workout and practice as 1 this off-season or cut him and save that money. DE is not for him unless it's in an absolute pinch or running down situation. I like the player, but he can't be his most effective self if they don't let him play 3 tech DT and get mentally/physically ready for that role from the off-season on. Tyrone Crawford, Maliek Collins and Antuan Woods are good players when healthy. Add a talented vet through FA, another through the draft and that's a hell of a DT rotation that's in a position to impact every type of down.

Sean Lee has a role on this team and that's great news. He's not getting cut for cap savings and that's for good reason. What it sounds like is he will be getting a re-worked deal, probably something like Witten is getting paid, $3.5 million and then becomes a coach for this team after playing. He breaks down obviously, but still plays well when healthy. That means lowering his snap count and you have a guy who can start at a high level in a pinch, is a phenomenal mentor and depth. More $ to sign ET and D-line acquisitions.

After that, there really is not any overpaid players that have not done anything for their money lately on the team. Furthermore, other than Randy Gregory, who seems like a guy trying to clean up. No more knucklehead types either.

Dak still has a year to go before his extension is a need, so no, he's not the most important extension need right now.

Hoooah! Let some of the 'tude grow along.

Sign Thomas and the top defensive tackle that actually hits free agency...and get ready for the season to start.

Me, I'm drafting a defensive tackle and defensive end up front in this year's draft. Even trading up into the first round to make it happen with strength.

Then I'm sitting back to watch the 'mix' grow up as Cowboys,

If Dak doesn't get an extension, he holds out. He's got too much money coming to take unnecessary risks for 2mil.

Who the heck cares...In a year White or some other QB might replace him. Romo was replaced and so could Dak be.

Especially since its been made clear about no hometown discount! Thats the whole point of signing an early new contract.

I'll be surprised if they give a 3rd contract to a 30 year old receiver.

Especially with that high of a gtd ratio to total contract dollars.
Almost 3 years guaranteed due to dead cap.

we can tag Dak for a couple of years if necessary. either Dak and Garrett will prove it next year, if they don't, Garrett is gone. Dak is tagged and the new coach will decide if its Dak or if he wants to go another route.

zeke is another story, but we can extend him next year and rework a few contracts.

Let him try it.

The team can then simply go about the process of replacing him one year sooner. And he can then worry about coming back to Dallas in 2020 because he never fulfilled the last year of his contract and they still own his rights.
