Jerry: ”I didn’t know it was going to be this tough”. Why it is this tough

And Jimmy should. But Jerry deserves credit for bringing Jimmy in and making the deals he needed.

Somewhere along the line that wasn’t enough credit for Jerry. Part of that was built up by the media when he parted ways with Jimmy and still didn’t receive credit with Barry.

It’s whats fueled Jerry’s passion ever since to prove he’s the Football Guy he wasn’t credited for back then.

Again , it’s where he’s been misguided wearing all hats because hiring the right guy and providing him the tools is all the credit most owners want. But it’s not enough for Jerry. He wants the credit coaches get.
Perhaps Jones was 'that guy' all along? Maybe Jones has always seen himself as the irreplaceable cog in anything he has been a part of his entire life? Could be Jones is not as complicated as some always make him out to be.

Its why I’ve said from Day 1 it’s been all about Jerry not the Dallas Cowboys.

He wanted to own a franchise to live out his dreams of being a coach running and building a team without the direct accountability coaches adhere to.

When Jimmy received more credit than him winning championships it wasn’t enough unless he received that credit. His ego is the driving force we’ve been trying to overcome ever since.

Does he really want to know why it's so tough for him? Because mediocrity is rewarded and poor decision making carries no penalty.

We do not learn from our mistakes unless we pay the price for those mistakes. If there is no penalty for poor choices and decisions, there is no change in the decision making. Booger has never paid the penalty, never. Team plummets to 4-12 and it's still the top revenue team.

It's so tough because he's not willing to make the sacrifice of time in being a real full time GM or in making the ultimate sacrifice when he realizes he's hired the wrong GM. It's so tough because he is an owner more interested in running it than winning. And he has the worst kind of boss, one that looks the other way.
This is some Wisdom Coach. Since Jerry bought the team he has never paid a price for any of his mistakes. This is is part of what makes me wanna puke when he says he “didn’t know it would be this tough”. He never learns a d- thing. Neither he, nor any of his kids, nor his step-son coach will ever pay the price for poor performance. They all live in a bubble of huge wealth, unearned deference, and a cloud of self-deceit.

As you said earlier Coach, this is an opportunity to vent. And one the reasons I wanted to vent today was the realization that this stupid billionaire is so unreflective, so unaware of his own stench that he sits comfortably in a party bus and makes the outrageous comment that he “didn’t know it would be this hard” to win in the freakin’ NFL. His words are self indicting. He has no shame.

I agree with you on the last 23 years of incompetence. I still think Jimmy gets a lot of credit for developing those SB teams and honing the
triplets.

Jimmy gets all the credit now since Jerry has had 23 seasons to prove that he had anything to do w building the 90s dynasty teams except for just signing checks. Jimmy had in his contract that he had the last word in ALL football decisions.

Not really. Jerry realizes he’s not the best football mind. But he doesn’t care. This is his show.

Of course he wants to win but only his way receiving credit . He’s not interested in winning if he’s not involved. He’d sell the team and walk away before stepping down.

here she blows:

^This is how Jerry Jones has always been. LONG before he ever bought the team.

Hopefully everyone on this site looks and listens to this video. This is the relevant personality. It is not about simple greed. It never has been.

Sorry but 'some' people are not like 'everybody else'. That is reality.

good post. with jerry its about conflict of interest and he doesn't see it. He is a brilliant marketing man, great CEO who took a $100M company and grew it such that its 3rd most valued franchise in the world and probably second in the US (after Yankees perhaps)....his moves are always about marketing, fan perception, creating fan value not about winning. does winning matter? of course, if you are 4-12 franchise mired in futility, you will lose fan base...but ultimately you have to make some decisions that may hurt you pockets, market share or fan value short term, but gain championships long run....Jerry is always making the short sighted mistakes and decisions that hurt us long term.
Forbes 2018 listed the Dallas Cowboys at #1 and the Yankees at #5. How bout them Cowboys.

Correct. “ his words are self indicting”. Perhaps your best sentence ever.

Unfortunately we’ve never made him pay or be accountable. It’s like he’s flippin us off saying. What are we going to do but complain.

It's easy to see that Jerry cares more about winning than he does money.........that is if you can believe him over his actions ...like....being the #1 most valuable sports franchise,..... his recent $250M toy,........his personal jet,..... a personal helicopter,........a decked out party bus............of course we believe you Jerry.

So in order to get back to the glory days of the past, this organization just needs do the opposite of the above 3 disasters:
1. Never make nor allow excuses...ever.
2. Stop being sentimental and allowing yourself, family and select friends to have “special privileges” without proving they are capable or without the ability to help us win.
3. Hold people at the top accountable for failure. A lack of results must be dealt with or failure will continue. People in key jobs, like HC, cannot be given special treatment.

I'm fine with excuses. That's just a word people use when they're frustrated by the outcome and want to blame someone. A more neutral word is context. Everyone, player and coaches, should be evaluated for what they brought to the table, in context. Losses aren't entirely on the HC anymore than on the QB.

I agree with your overall thrust, but disagree with your spin on it. I think you're making the same mistake they are. Your language is all about blame and failure. That's the way they think of it as well, and that's the problem.

It was obvious we could have done better than Linehan. But instead of moving on, we only moved on when we had built a case to blame him for failure.

It shouldn't be about blame. It should be about whether we can do better. This is true for all personnel. You don't fire guys only when you feel justified you have established blame. That limits personnel moves to concepts of fairness and blame. Fair has got nothing to do with it. You fire guys when you think you can improve the team with someone else.

The Cowboys have become like other Iconic labels in American culture. The biggest , most popular and wealthiest but not the best.

Jerrys done an excellent job pimping the Iconic label while watering down the actual product which originally made it popular. In business 101 we call it American ingenuity.

Jerry thanks us all for being suckers fueling his passion to become a football celebrity.

Yes really. Jerry Jones did not simply birth himself into the world as #1 Detested Individual of cowboyszone when Super Bowls and playoff wins dried up. He has always been this person.

Early success hid his true self from people who did not care to see who he was because who cared if he was that way? Winning was all that mattered. Then the winning stopped and what did some people automatically do? Basically, they started seeing Jones as Dr. Seuss' The Grinch.

There are billions of people in this world. Most exist vaguely within a norm. Some do not. Even so, some people do not see particular people as being that much different from themselves unless they see them acting in ways they would call 'crazy' behavior.

Right.. from Day 1 on 2-25-1989 we said we’d only tolerate an owner like Jerry if he won.

But he’s always been the person we see today. Spot on my friend.

Forget Superbowl we can't even get to an NFC championship game. Honestly amazing we've been somewhat relevant.
