I can remember these threads about the Cowboys missing out on Albert Haynesworth when he signed with the Commanders for a billion dollars.

Off the top of my head, you can also add the threads about Namdi Asamough to the Eagles years ago, Paxton Lynch to the Broncos on draft day, and Sammy Watkins to the Chiefs last year. Probably a bunch more.

Exactly - and I was a guy who wanted Paxton Lynch.

But on the flip side, posters were thrilled with the Brandon Carr signing.

For half an hour.

Along with the threads about how shrewd it was to get Paea, and how smart it was getting a DE with upside in Mayowa and what a good system fit Nolan Carroll was.

So let’s not act like the irrational ones are only the ones praising moves by other teams.

Jackson was fine last year. Now he’s going to play opposite the best DT, arguably, in football outside Donald in Cox.

People acting like that wasn’t a solid move are just hindering at this point. The Eagles put a premium on DL and signed one today that makes them better.

You're not wrong, but everybody thought the Eagles had that last year with Michael Bennett.

My point is this- the dollars that flow early in free agency are often foolish. It sucks to watch the Cowboys sit idly by while other teams "improve" themselves; but we should always ask ourselves why these players' original teams are letting them go.

None of those were wallet busters. Many of the signings today were at top buck.

All teams sign players like Paea, Mayowa (didn't he have 6 sacks one year?) and Nolan Carroll every year.

Bennett was a beast for them last year. It was a great acquisition. But with cap issues and Barnett coming back, they had to make a tough choice on Bennett.

Not all the teams make those guys their prime FA signings like we did. That’s the point.

Paea isn’t a bad signing if you are taking a flier on him. He’s a bad signing when you need help at DT and he’s the best one you signed.

Stephen Jones is almost singlehandley giving Dallas the reputation of being a cheap skate

Whether its FA from outside or from the inside I believe its hurting us bigtime

If I was a good player I wouldnt even bother meeting with Dallas knowing they are just gonna low ball me
Stephen makes Jerry look like a football guy. Lol

There are two ways to look at it.

1. You overpay in the first few days of free agency. So it might be financially prudent to sit out these big time deals.

2. Other teams get better while the Cowboys don't.

Reality is probably somewhere in the middle. Depending on your roster and cap situation, it might be ok to slightly overpay for certain guys you believe are difference makers and at positions where you're thin.

Exactly. The Eagles have a double threat on the line. Even if we do sign D-Law, he's on his own if we do nothing in FA. And since he disappeared the last half of the season...

No rational fans would consider Paea, Carroll, or Mayowa "prime FA signings." Just because these players may only be the few that the team signed that year, does not make them "prime FA signings."

I do have to ask

So far, what FA deals do you think Dallas should have outbid the winner for?

I liked the price that the Eagles paid for Jackson DT.
Anything else?

Every year there's whimpering and whining. Never fails.
...and I get it. But almost all of these deals are bad ones or the acquiring teams

When you adopt the philosophy of building through the draft and only bringing in FA as role players, back ups, or bridge players so you can pay your own developed talent you kinda need to follow through. So far since preaching the new approach to the media DLaw has been the first real contract to come up and they have played tag for the 2nd time now. Reportedly there has been what one offer this off-season not long before the tag deadline? Now if they don't get a deal done and he walks next year or even worse gets traded how does the team see it?

If I were on the team and became the next player to get tagged I would be rather hesitant in believing the FO would follow through with a 2nd contract. Possibly just flat out demand a trade and be done with it.

Overpaying is what FA is about..... that is why you have a young roster.... so you can overpay a couple stars

You still have to pick the right ones

I have never seen anyone suggest we sit out the Draft because we got a few picks wrong.... you just dust off and move on

If our worst FA is BCarr then he wasn't too bad...... he never missed a game and is still starting for the 3rd straight year in BAL

They started with SLee, Witten and TSmith and continued with TCrawford, Beasley, TFred, ZMartin and Heath..... they also signed TWill, Bailey, CJones and LCollins

DLaw is a big test but he is asking for the moon......38m over two years is not enough
Dak will get signed
ACooper too

JSmith is an easy deal imo
BJones and Zeke might take the Franchise Tag

we have taken care of our own..............we need to expand the talent pool to include some FAs
