Haha, you know something? I was thinking something very similar to this! However, I do wonder if we could get a bit more than just a 2nd. If we can't get a first for DLaw, then I'd see if a team would bite on giving us a 2nd and a 4th for him. That would give us quite a bit of ammunition. Then, we could potentially trade up quite high. This is a draft with quite a few really good DEs, and I can see us replacing DLaw quite easily with a really good DE. Or, more importantly, we could trade up for a top DT like Raekwon Davis of Alabama in the 1st if we move up.
I think that is more doable than a 1st for a DE in a deep DL draft. But I do not think the trade compensation is as big an obstacle as the money he wants. There are very few teams able or willing to pay that kind of money to a DE and especially one that is very ordinary in crunch time.

I agree that a 1st will be difficult to do for Dlaw this year. However, a 2nd and a 4th is quite possible. This still gives us the flexibility to move to the first if we need to.

screw that. Get him to sign the tag, then get 2 first rounders in return. SOME team will do that if they want him bad enough. That's the going rate. A 2nd rounder in return is not near enough. MAYBE 3 second rounders I would do. One for 2020, and the other 2 in this draft.

Take the two second-round picks move up in the first round. Take a defensive tackle higher on the board. Probably going to lose him anyways. And if you stay with him, without middle pressure, all the quarterback needs to do is step up and your Edge rushers can't get there anyways. Just a thought

Of course, if you have the middle pressure without the outside pressure you are just as screwed, or more.

Wouldn't take a second, I'd rather take a 1st.
What teams have the space and would be willing to give up their 1st? And don't think his ploy of stalling the surgery is making any fans of GMs that might be interested. A 1st and 20M a season for a guy really playing a stupid game? I hope they do trade him, not a fan of this guy in the slightest.

Other than this being extremely strong draft in that area I would agree with you

Without middle pressure you cannot win in this league. The Patriots destroyed Mahomes. They showed the league that I'm correct . Your linebackers can get there on the outside. I can't stress enough how important middle pressure is in this league

Here's the problems with the little dream you're having. First, when was the last time or any time for that matter that a team other than like the last 3 picks in the 1st rnd gave up their 1st rnd pick without getting the other teams 1st rnd pick as part of the trade? Second, if the Cowboys were so stupid as to trade their best defensive player and then only get a 2nd pick for him they would be putting up a neon sign that they have already given up on the 2019 season and now are in the rebuild mode. This is why fans NEVER get to be GM's.

So tell me something. What's your dream. Rather than commenting on everybody else's post what's your theory.??

This isn't like the Old Farm. I miss my cowboy family. People here get touchy so easy.
Yeah, it is different but there's some fine folks here too. Just let some of the reactive ones roll off your back or you can go for getting them to put you on ignore. I did that with one of the Pollyanna's and the experience here is much better. Some here make a snap judgement off one post as to what you are all about and I wouldn't give people like that the time of day so why waste time on them here when there are so many good folks to post with?

I have a gut feeling that signing him at all will burn us long term. At this point I'm leaning toward sticking with the tag. Either he signs the tag and we get a year more or he sits out. Either way we protect our future.

If he was healthy right now I'd trade him.

If you have to rely on your OLBs to rush the QB in a 4-3 defense you are hurting your ability to defend against the run, as well as against shorter passes. That's not how a 4-3 defense is designed to work.

I usually don't take things personal enough. I'm really finding out people get so sensitive if you don't agree with them but you're right I'm learning again to let it roll off

Good post and I understand that yes. I'm just throwing the can around. Like the old question does the backfield help the defensive line or the defensive line help the backfield. I understand it totally. For me it's pressure up the middle just my opinion
