Again, doesn't he need to sign the tag for the Cowboys to be able to trade him?

He could simply say screw you and not sign the tag. Then the Cowboys are stuck, right?
Yup and a ton of people just refuse to get this fact.

Well then they are stupid, because this defense gets worse at every level without him.
I like Tank and I hope we can keep him.

BUT... while the defense may get worse without him. The entire team could get worse if we pay him that much and then need to watch Zeke, Dak, B Jones, J Smith, Amari go because we dont have the cap to pay all of them. We just can't have all of these guys plus 3 guys on the OL all getting 20M per year.

Raiders would give us a 1 and a 2 in this years draft..I promise you that...and maybe even a future conditional 3rd.
Just curious, but how could you possibly promise that?

And we'd be absolute FOOLS not to take them up on it. Especially if you throw in the future conditional 3rd.

What leverage? Don't get me wrong, he has leverage, but not that much. Mack had leverage because the Bears traded two first rounders for him, or else he wouldn't see that much money. No other team has paid a DE that much money. If the Cowboys pull the tag I don't think Tank gets that much money. But that remains to be seen.

Correct me if I'm wrong but if Dallas pulls the tag they can't even trade him. So they'll lose him for nothing other than a compensatory pick. So there's no way they going to do that. And Tank will get something close to that in the open market, so many teams need a pass rusher. Teams like the Colts and Bills have plenty of cap space and desperate for pass rush help. They'll overpay for that type of talent.

If he doesn't sign the tag, the Cowboys can do nothing about it. Of course, that means he's sitting out the season...

They can trade him right now if they have a trading partner. However, no team is going to trade for him unless they have a long term deal worked out with him ahead of time.

Yes Dallas can very well trade him, and may even do so. I think this may play out like Mack did last year. Fact is, if he hit the open market this year he'd be the top FA available. He's an excellent pass rusher that can also defend the run. There's been a lot of stats floating around stating how his production is at or near Mack and Watt levels over the past 3 years.

The open market is a crazy thing. I'm sure Oakland never thought Mack would find someone to pay his asking price and then the Bears swooped in. Obviously, I'm not saying Lawrence is better, but he'll find his asking price if he becomes available to all other teams.

Let me say Watts missed most of the past 2 season and came back this season to post 16 sacks. DLaw is a good player do I put him within the top 5 outside rushers maybe, do I put him in the top 3? No. Dallas is offering up a deal that makes him the highest paid DE in the NFL I'm fine with it but the actions by DLaw agent or DLaw himself of then jacking the price higher? Not ok with that. I don't expect him to give some discount and Dallas at this stage is not offering up a low ball or discount price we are talking the highest paid DE in the league. So any notion he has leverage? Dallas has clear cut option available to them and should DLaw continue down this path I think Dallas may very well use them. Dallas was able to win games during the second half of the season when DLaw play was not stellar they are not going to sink should they be forced to move on from him

He does not. He should be just above guys like Flowers. Mack is a generational talent on the edge, who also does things from the OLB spot that Lawrence doesn't do - such as play in coverage, etc.

And frankly what Mack got was out of whack to begin with.

In no rational world is DeMarcus Lawrence worth the same as Mack. And if you think I am just being anti-Tank, note that I have had huge arguments with Verdict when he would claim just trade Lawrence. This team needs Lawrence but locking yourself into huge contract like that is a mistake IMO.
All people keep saying is "the last 32 games."

Uhhh... he's not under contract with the Cowboys right now. How can they trade him if he's not on the team?
He has to sign the tag to be able to be traded.

He'd have to sign the tag to be traded. Which I'm sure he would do if they had a trade he liked setup.
