Even if they don't want to give up 2 1sts I figure a team would at least call to see what we would be willing to accept. And any news aniut the cowboys gets leaked.

You didn't hear about him talking to any other teams because no team is willing to part with two first round picks for him. It's no more complicated than that. But I'm not completely sure. Always assume non exclusive unless the player is worth it. Say Aaron Rodgers. Or someone you can't afford to trade. But no team is going to offer Tank a contract with that 2 first rounders as compensation. They can try and work a trade with the Cowboys is Tank signs, but his surgery is in the way right now.

The 2 1sts isn't mandatory, it's only if they sign him to an offer sheet that Dallas then refuses. They can negotiate with him, come to an agreement, then go to the Cowboys and talk trade terms. If they can't come to trade terms, then no deal is made and he continues being Dallas's issue.

Yeah that's the thing, I figured someone would've called just to see if they would come off the 2 1sts and usually stuuf like that gets leaked. I agree , no team is going to pay him Mack money and give up 2 1sts.

Tagged players can negotiate and be traded once they sign the FT.... their rights cannot be traded without a deal or without signing...... compensation can be worked out but the League requires two 1sts if no agreement is reached

Teams and players have until July 15th at 4pm to reach a long-term deal..... if they don't the player must play under the one year FT...... if traded the player can only sign a one year deal with the new team

The player can refuse to sign and holdout without any fines since they aren't under contract... they must report by Week 10 to play that season and accrue a year's service

If they do sign the FT and sit out they will lose a game check for each week of the holdout and can be fined for missing Training Camp

Players do have to pass a physical when they sign and must "maintain excellent physical shape and condition" or be subject to forfeiture thru arbitration

If a player is FT a second time their tag will be 120% of their previous tag
If a player is FT a third time their tag will be 144% of their previous tag or the FT amount for QBs, whichever is higher

A player is considered FT once it is applied.....it does not have to be signed......FTs by previous teams count as well

DLawrence was tagged as a DE for the second time at 20.5m.... it is the non-exclusive and he can be traded....... he has not signed and has hinted he will not play under the FT again..... they have until July 15th to reach a new deal or he can only play for the 20.5m

If he sits out he won't get paid but DAL would have to FT him for the third time in 2020..... that essentially assures he will be a FA since that number will be around 29.5m

He could report Week 10 and get paid the pro-rated amount for the rest of the season and playoffs.... if fails to report by then he will miss the entire season

Some think he can wait until TC ends or Sept and sign the FT and then get surgery for his torn Labrum... this would allow him to get paid and still miss most of the season..... this is a risky strategy and can be challenged by the team and would still mean he would have to come back at some point midway through the season

DLaw may be waiting for JClowney and FClark to sign and they may be waiting for him...... July 15th is the big deadline and that is when Dez signed at the last minute

His surgery will likely take 3 months to recover (from what I'm hearing). That means he won't be able to go until middle of October, missing at the very least 6 weeks of the regular season.

The front office needs to let DLawrence and his agent know they have until April 24th (the day before the draft) to take their best offer. If he still hasn't had the surgery by then, I'd say the front office should rescind the tag on this date and let him walk. His value will be at it's lowest point possible since he still hasn't had his surgery and would not provide an immediate upgrade to any team in training camp needing DE help due to his health. Just can't see a foreign team offering the contract he wants knowing Lawrence will miss nearly half of his first season.

It could become a cat-and-mouse game of who signs/rescinds 1st.

Yes I know. I didn't intend to sound like I did not. I was solely responding to the exclusive/non exclusive reasoning. Working around the 2 first rounders requires an agreement by the Cowboys. Even in that case I don't think any team is going to come calling for what Tank is asking. I think they all will be willing to wait it out until next off season. Or maybe offer us a Quinn type trade because anything is better than nothing. If Tank pulls a Bell then we get nothing.

But there's the rub. What team is willing to pay him Mack money? What team will pay him that money and give up any picks? We're at an impasse and we're not losing any picks.

I still think DAL has some protections from a sign and then surgery move

He has to pass a physical to sign any contract and a torn labrum seems like a deal breaker if they want it to be

They could possibly put him on the NFI-Non Football Injury list since the injury didn't happen this League Year and they wouldn't have to pay while he healed

The exclusive tag is the avg of the top 5 contracts this year at each position

It can actually be lower than the non-exclusive sometimes and it becomes whichever is higher

The non exclusive is the avg of the top 5 contracts over the last 5 years adjusted to the cap

Once a player signs the franchise tag, the one-year salary becomes fully guaranteed. But there’s a little-known exception.

Under Article 10, Section 2(c) of the CBA, the contract can be terminated if the player fails “to establish or maintain his excellent physical condition.”

Any effort to do so would result in a review of the situation by a neutral physician and, eventually and inevitably, arbitration. Still, the franchise tender technically isn’t fully and completely guaranteed.

If the Cowboys take the tag off of Tank. How much would it be to bring in Suh and Ansah? Would they be cheaper then Lawrence?

That is important..... even if he doesn't sign the FT or DAL rescinds the tag it will count as the second time he has been tagged..... they would have to tag him for the 3rd time next year to keep him

So even if he holds out all year like LBell he will be gone next year......even DAL isn't desperate enough to tag him at 29.5m
