A center for addiction is going to say it's addictive. When stoners start having actual dependence then I'll listen. Pot is no more addictive than candy. But in this age everything is an addiction or a disease. Whatever we can do to take the accountability away from the person responsible.

Im addicted to coffee. One lil sip and it helps me go #2 in the morning. It doesnt help me with any pain or to cope with it. But if i dont drink it I usually dont stay regular and I get constipated which is painful. Lol.

Id say its harmless and a legal remedy coffee but if i go to the dr hes gonna write a prescrition for something. And if i get nausea there is another. Pain there is another. Allergies there is another, depression there is another. Heck lets all be pill freaks since its not against the nfl rules .

But stay way from those legal cigarettes and weed jr. Weed is safer than cigarettes and coffee. Too bad it doesnt make ya go #2 though or i could eliminate that addiction. Lol

I agree 100% he broke the outdated 100 year old rules and should be punished. But what should be the maximum punishment? Banning a player for life over weed shouldnt even be a consideration. A 1 game suspension is fair. Jerrah is prolly just thankful RG is not a drunkard and gonna go out and kill somebody driving.

80% of the players smoke weed. They arent gonna comply to taking the Nfls list of approved medicines. I wish every player in the League would rally to have the punishment lowered or have weed taken off the list of banned substances. Its their body and they should have a choice to use Weed medically if it decreases their risk of injuring themselves or others with harmful addicting meds. There is no chemical drug treatment program for weed. Its not chemically addictive. There are no withdrawels. Lol. Of course if youre in constant pain and cant cope or sleep you may have some addictive dependency if you cant take all the allowed painkillers and injections the nfl hands out like candy to mix with your anxiety meds and alcohol.

Rules are rules. I wouldnt play nfl football for trillions of dollars. Much less for a few million. I dont like playing crash up derby with my body. With or without weed im out. I dont like pills needles or alcohol so i will stick to madden.

I dont know why the NFL is clinging to outdated policies. The goverment in those NFL states are collecting revenues on medical weed. If it didnt have medicinal properties id just keep my mouth shut. If 80% of the players use weed id definitely be lowering the penalties. Before they start using it as a negotiating tool to get traded to negotiate these new guaranteed contracts. Lol Id be suprized if some changes arent made before 2020.

Jerry just lauched an attack at the weed policy. Hes signing a problem weed player and if you listen to him and stephen they are all in on Gregory anyways. Lol. They wont sign up to overpay a de but theyll shore up the right side at de and ink the stoner thats getting crucified for a minor infraction. But in their eyes they see reasoning and I wonder why? But I like the move by Jerry and stephen. How can they crucify one the players when 80% of the team are stoners. Lol

It's not as if they gave Gregory a lengthy suspension for one offense. Or two. Or three.

Remember, a player has to flunk a test more than once before even a short suspension is given. Ultimately, if a player keeps doing the same thing over and over again, how could he not expect the punishment to get more harsh? That's how life works.

Evidently, for NFL players, it is harder than I realized to smoke marijuana and not get caught.

Either that, or it is utterly amazing how careless and unprofessional some of these guys can be.

At least that's my current working theory after several players, including most notably Jets defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson and Cowboys linebacker Rolando McClain, were suspended recently under the NFL's substance abuse policy.

Without getting bogged down into too much minutiae, here are the rules: Players get tested once a year for "street drugs" (including marijuana) and that test is in May or June, during the team's Organized Team Activities. A positive test would place the player in the league's program, which entails more frequent testing and some meetings. If the player fulfills his requirements in the program, he needs to test positive two more times to get suspended. If the NFL's medical director believes the player hasn't adequately participated in the program, a second positive test could trigger a four-game suspension like the ones that Richardson and McClain got.

There are a couple key points that need to be reiterated:

1) NFL players only get tested once a year for substances and they KNOW when it will take place.

2) Even if a player tests positive once, as long as he does what the league asks, there won't be any serious repercussions unless he tests positive TWO MORE TIMES.

Let's start with the first point, which is really the most important one. Everybody knows when the test is coming. Every year. To use some Wellsian (Ted, that is) terms, I was "generally aware" during my time as a player of several teammates who "more probable than not" smoked marijuana on a fairly regular basis.

How do I know? They talked about it, hinted at it and even smelled like it from time to time. Yet none of those guys that I remember, with the notable exception of one after we were no longer teammates, ever had any issue with the NFL's substance abuse policy, which is an intelligence test as much as anything. But don't just take my word for it.

Typically the way it works is someone gets high then tested before it can leave their system. That's the only way they can really fail it.

Really people complain about the NFL yet they know when drug test will take place which is during organized team activities May or June. So for the most part these guys can get high from June, 9 to 10 months without any test being performed and yet we still see guys failing it. I tend to agree this is not as much of a strict drug testing program as it is an intelligence test.
When I was in the military we would be drug tested randomly. I'm not sure how the NFL performs this activity. All I can think it's the person smoking a marijuana is truly desperate for some pain relief. I think just don't have any willpower. It's too hard to contemplate with the player's mind is actually thinking about.

But they know when the test is coming..... they have to stop by St Pattys Day before getting tested in April at OTAs...... if they don't get tested in April it will be at camp in late July so stop in late June

If you happen to get caught once...... you just have to stop for 90 days and it all goes away.... no extra testing

No I'm not comparing it to McDonalds, I'm saying the NFL rules are easy to get past. They test May and June that is it, players know exactly when these test will be done. NFL does punish for both alcohol and prescription drugs look at the NFL\NFLPA drug abuse policy. Players can be put on drug program because of addiction of pain medication and can be put in program for alcohol abuse. If you knew from the end of May up until June of the following year you would not be tested but had to be clean by May why would that be so hard to pass unless stupid or have a real problem? I smoked weed for years so do not hand me this BS of it is not addictive, any substance that can control your life is addictive behavior.
I don't think it's as easy as you think passing a drug test. Although I've seen many try. You think you could use someone else's urine with his DNA attached to that. I just wish the league would come up with . A mission statement. It's the culture. This is the way we do things sign the paper and everybody knows the rules.

Yeah I don't get it. I was on probation as a juvenile and got tested randomly. Somehow I managed to pass every one and I smoked regularly back then. Haven't touched it since '99.

It is very easy. I had a friend call me up a few years back telling me he got a job that required drug testing and he asked me what I used to pass the drug test where I work. I told him I quit smoking weed, that is 100% sure way to pass a drug test. Stop using. People have made excuse after excuse for something they see as no big deal not addictive and harmless, well if that is the case then it should be easy to grow up, be man and take personal responsibility. The NFL drafts players, players do not draft the NFL. NFL has some very easy rules to abide by and if you can't manage that then use your college degree and get a real job.

For appearances. They probably want to give off the image of being strict on drugs when they could really care less. Thats the only reason I can think of for making the players aware of the time frame.

I guess I just wasn't thinking the entire thinking through. LOL but you're absolutely correct this is the mission statement this is the culture follow it or pay the consequences

You can go into local smoke shops and buy stuff that will clean you out the same day. If these guys are going to smoke beyond d the deadline they should at least stock up.

Pretty damn easy and when you hear from those who want it legal to use in the league they act as if it is no big deal and not addictive so great stop using. After all it is no big deal and in return you have a once in a lifetime opportunity to gain fame and fortune to live out a dream. Who in their right mind would give up a dream like this over weed? I was willing to do it for a job that pays 60 grand a year with no fame but then again my family is a lot more important to me that getting stoned.

I know and if it fails you get your money back guaranteed. However is the 30 to 50 bucks you get back in cases if fails worth risking the job or career? lol
Downside is most drug test pick up masking agents and that will be viewed as a failed test

That's a good reason to stop.
