Let’s not overrate Rams loss on run D

Rams were in the SB with Kurt Warner so they had been in the show more recently that the Cowboys. What I do know is this team since 2016 has been one of the youngest in the NFL and has win the east 2 out of those 3 season. I like our chances and refuse to lay 20 years at their feet. I judge this group and this team based on recent time that they have taken part in. I think this team can and will challenge for a title and yes this season. I see a very talented group of players and while I would like to see us add to DT and SS this off season is not over as of yet. So excuse me if I'm not sharing into the doom and gloom crowd.

Doom and Gloom? lol So You'll clump the Rams in with a team that won 20 years ago, but not the Cowboys? You don't have to admit the coaching sucks here, but it does and until that changes, they're just wasting talent. That won't change in 2019.

and yet still ranked as one of the top defensive units? I agree we need to add to DT and we need to add to SS. However the way some act you would think Dallas was a bottom dwelling team. Yes Rams game we played poorly I make no excuse by the same token I don't crap all over the defense and the coaches because of one game.

All these disingenuous comments about 'some' are meaningless

The Rams showed that if you create some misdirection and run up the middle we can't handle it

We have a defensive philosophy that ignores 1T DT and great safety play . As long as we rely on slop at those positions others will take advantage

Not complicated

The Rams run game was not innovative, we weren't out schemed we were beaten badly in the trenches and too stubborn to adjust. In fact the power game the Rams used to beat us is about 100 years old, using inside traps and dives. They beat us with Vanilla, man on man.

We needed to bring more run support because their guys were beating our guys and "we never did".
We did a poor job coaching in that aspect

Please tell me your joking...

The Rams plan was simple...they blocked 7 vs 6 in the box all night long. Their guards had free reign to the 2nd level....all night long.

Instead of adjusting by getting our DT's head up on their guards...so our LBers were free to run and makes tackles like they did all season long. Our ******* staff did nothing. Absolutely nothing.

I take that back...they inserted Sean Lee for LVE....who was even more ineffective.

Why they widened up our DEs to create the grand canyon for the Rams to run...just absurdly dumb. Who would be able to stop that??? Name one DT in the entire league...

Worst defensive game plan...maybe ever conceived. Just look @ this photo...and tell me we weren't screwed from the get go. We sat back w/ 6 guys in the box...and let them have their way w/ us. We didn't blitz....We didn't bring in a 3rd LBer...we just got throttled in the 4-2-5.

Still pisses me off...that an NFL coaching staff w/ this much experience did so little to stop the slaughter.

Marinelli was the bozo responsible for the defensive line. You saw the same gutless play from the defense against Green Bay a couple of years ago. You might hate Kris Richard but he's hardly responsible for being stuck with the pathetic Swiss cheese of a defense.
He's blaming Rod for using a 4-2-5 defense.

You can come up with whatever conspiracy theories you want about Rod lol, but the play calling which absolutely contributed to the Rams rushing success was not Rod.

I'm fully inclined to support the view the Rams playoff game& most notably the 270 ground attack yards compiled against us was not an outlier, but, more along the lines of an arrogantly perceived & of the inflexible ill-prepared (standard)game planning OUR sideline field Commander (s) presentedo_O

* Man, the blueprint to negating the Rams offensive scheme was available courtesy of CHICAGO BEARS,,,"naw! We can't learn nothing by seeing how it was done ,from those guys"
Your right, maybe NE looked at that? lol

I'm going to repeat this until my hands give out b/c too many don't read the news or pay attention to anything but their opinions.......

The RAMS OL admitted that we inadvertently tipped off our DL assignments. They knew what we were going to do on almost every play. Anyone notice or remember Goff constantly looking at the jumbotron pre-snap? Goff would look up at the jumbo tron b/c it gave him the perfect view down the line, and he adjusted the run plays accordingly. So, if we were running a stunt from the left, they would run right at the vacated position. Pure stupidity on our part. Thats how we went from stuffing the NFL #1 rush offense one week to then giving up 250+ yards the next week.

Its easy to shove the ball down an opponents throat when you know the DL calls. We got outwitted by a smarter coach.

yup...forgot about that too...Rams wouldn't call a play until after the headsets were turned off @ 15 seconds left in the play clock...and we had no chance to adjust.

Oh it was a whipping but that's typical of the Cowboys when they come off a big win. The Cowboys always spend too much time patting themselves on the back. But what your saying is the Rams just out muscled the Cowboys and if that were the case they would do it 9 out of 10 times . I guarantee you if they played to open the season that wouldn't happen. No NFL team has talent level with that big of a difference. It's about being prepared. Just like the Cowboys crushed the Jaguars then stink it up against the Colts. That's all coaching!
yeah and that is why I say cowboys will never make it to a SB with JG as HC.
They will make the playoffs, and struggle to get past the div round. If they ever get past that the water is even deeper and they will fizzle out
in champ game.

well that is where our HC or DC should see what is happening, and make some changes to offset what they were doing.

........ making adjustments on the fly is not and never was a strength of Garret teams. We never figured it out. Only the Rams OL talking to the media after the game clued them in.

We could have come up with the most ingenious defensive plan ever conceived and it wouldn't have worked.

That's exactly what I said. We failed to bring in extra run support after our guys were beat, we failed, we beat ourselves...Richards was too busy interviewing in Miami

He's blaming Rod for using a 4-2-5 defense.

Right he's just the DC, the architect of the defense and the guy responsible for the line that got trucked by CJ Anderson

As depressing& deflating as it is, based upon an overall big picture of studied past accepted observations, yer' all fact & no fiction in yer post DD-52

Wow. You and quincy sure like to stalk me .lol
Pathetic. Are you here to scapegoat richa4d again?
,,,er,,,ya know what, my fellow forum friend? Just because you think certain folks or government agencies, both foreign & domestic are out to get you? Does not necessarily automatically negate the simple fact that they are indeed actually out to get you ,,,er,,,either,,, just saying Bro:thumbup:

Many posters keep citing the Rams loss as a reason to get bigger run stuffers on the DL. While it is always embarrassing to give up 270 yards rushing in a playoff game, everything points to that game being an outlier. In 2018, our run defense was 5th overall in the league. We were fourth in the league in average yards per rush (3.8). We shut down great running teams like NO and SEA. We had two bad games: IND and LAR. As has been reported, the LAR collapse had more to do with being out coached than poor effort or play by our DTs. When you watch the video, there are gaping holes because DTs are out of position, not necessarily because they were being blown off the ball. And we cannot discount that we just got a bad “field matchup.” We are built for speed and penetration on turf. Put same DL on that soft, sloppy grass field and they are not as quick and disruptive.

All this is to say that... do not be surprised or disappointed when in the 2nd or 3rd round we go with an undersized 3T like Gerald Willis, Zach Allen, Jaylon Ferguson, LJ Collier, rather than a 320+ pound run stuffer. And if we do, we’ll be fine.
150 is bad enough. 270 yds allowed? That’s not an outlier - that’s a disaster.
