58 is gonna be the DL or S they rate highest that is left. So maybe....
I hope not
I hope it’s the player they rate highest with a very few exceptions
I think the BPA has a real good chance to be a safety, I think DT is gonna be mighty picked over
We need S, DT, CB, OT, RB, in no particular order
But I’d rather look at talent over position

Trysten Hill DT UCF is a player I liked at the Combine and undoubtedly DC Marinelli likes. His measurable physical abilities are comparable to elite DT in the draft; 6-3-308, 5.0 40yd time, 35 vertical jump, 4.38 short shuttle with a 1.73 10yd split. However, he was used in rotation at UCF. That fits the Cowboys mold. He also has been winning going undefeated in 2017-18 at UCF (lost to LSU in bowl game this year 32-40).

I have liked Hill because they say he was in the new UCF coaches dog house in 2018. However, he played quick, fast, and hard. So whatever happened he stood up to it. Every draft report has 2 things Marinelli loves...burst and hustle. Burst and hustle are consistent for Hill in every draft evaluation. Its the 2 things you can not coach a DL to do. Either they have it or they don't.

When Marinelli goes to a pro day, personally works out a player, and gets a player in Dallas for the 30 visits, you can bet he is high on their draft board. He would be a perfect fit a no.58 as he has a 3rd round grade and the 58th pick is a low 2nd round choice so he would not be a reach. A lot of teams are interested so his 3rd round grade is a false ranking to throw teams off. He could fall to 3-5 rounds only because he was never a full time starter. But he would then become a unreal steal in rounds 3-5.

I hope what Marinelli wants (see Collins, Lawrence, and Gregory), Marinelli gets.
I wonder if we will reach for him in the second or hope he falls to us in the third. Guess it depends on what the board looks like when we pick. Players always fall.

At 58 your rankings aren't so fine that one guy is loads higher on your board than another. Need should come into play. We might have a QB or RB ranked higher than a DT. Are we automatically going to go talent over position there?

Hopefully he wants a big old 1 Tech DT but he hasn't showed that want yet. seems to want burst to the QB not run stuffers. Maybe we should send him a Mister Big Bar and he would get the message :muttley:snicker snicker

I just don't see us having an interest in a 1-tech. We've got Woods. We signed Covington. What we need is a dominant 3-tech.

ANNNND your what, upset with the LVE pick? Good grief.

The hell?

Can you see who is on my avatar?

I was one of the few hoping LVE was our pick last year.

My reply was more in line due to this comment from the OP:

I hope what Marinelli wants (see Collins, Lawrence, and Gregory), Marinelli gets.

My point was that(IMO) Rod was high on Bryan. Taven was an official visit and Rod went to UF to "coach him up" in drills.
I'm sure the Cowboys viewed him high as well, and may of taken him if it wasn't for McClay convincing them that LVE would be a difference maker and force turnovers.
I believe they take what Rod wants seriously, as shown in 2017 when they took Taco over a few DBs and Watt, to add to the OPs examples.

Nothing in there was wishing we took Taven Bryan or upset over LVE.

That’s true. With some exception like QB or RB at 58 though I take best player though DT may be biggest need
At 58 you could say get 15th best DT or 6th best S.
There isn’t much difference between 58th guy or 60th guy on your board

I wish we could get a look at there board so we could follow along in the draft. And see the coaches lobbying for players.

That would be cool
I’d love to be in the room for a draft
Surprised jerry has never come up with a way to do that and make money off it

Based on the NFL.com big board he's ranked 78. Dane has himl rated 91. Last year we had an excellent drat in terms of value by letting the picks fall to us. I would like the pick but in round three at the earliest.

You trade down in that situation

Yeah - but unfortunately for us, Marinelli isn't always right.

Remember how pumped he was when we drafted Joey Ivie out of Florida? Yeah..about that....
Marinelli would have been just as pumped if they had picked a bag of frozen biscuits... it's his personality trait. 7th round you're throwing crap at the wall!
