What Happens To Dak If Mike White Blows up

It's a moot point the Cowboys aren't going to sign Dak to an extension this offseason, not with having the 4th year of his rookie deal to go this year and at least 2 franchise tags under their belt to use after that. It is possible that if Dak gets off to a hot start this season, that they try to sign him during the season (they did that with Romo during the 2007 season), other than that i don't expect any extension for Dak this offseason. So if Mike White takes a big step this offseason anything could happen. I don't know why people think it can't, it already happenned with Dak. Who here thought he would keep the QB Job over Romo when he 1st took over? Lightning can strike twice

Having the 4th year rookie salary and prospect of 2 franchise tags is EXACTLY why we SHOULD resign THIS year. Dak should be willing to trade a lower annual salary (closer to $25m than $30m) so he can increase his salary this year. The rookie salary this year + 2 franchise tags simply set the market. And it only goes up if we don’t sign him this year.

Hypothetically Lets say White shows a something this preseason and Moore feels like White has higher upside. Do you still resign Dak or do you wait to see how White develops.

LOL...couple things

Preseason games not telling us much

Imagine Moore telling Jerry and Stephen they're wrong about Dak based on a few preseason plays. What you think happens to his credibility.

There is really nothing he can show this preseason to put him over the top. Will he be playing with the first team? Probably not. If Dak gets injured then he has his chance.

I did like what very little I saw of him in preseason. But what I saw told me he had little to no pocket awareness. That is his issue right now.

That, too. I don't think the Cowboys have a guy they can depend on behind Dak.

Most teams don't have a back up QB who can actually take them anywhere. If they ever do he won't be there for long in this era. The days of having a solid back up QB for several years are long gone. Danny White would've been signed as a free agent before Staubach retired had the current CBA been in place.

First of all, who cares what Moore thinks? He has as much power to pull a QB as Garrett does: zero.

And White could suddenly become Aikman in preseason and it wouldn't matter. There is no way Jerry lets anyone start over "the guy" until 2020. Jerry would rather waste an entire season riding Dak before hurting his feelings and sitting him.

Why do people keep trying to find reasons to move on from dak? He had an amazing rookie year, a sophomore slump, a strong 3rd season showing major progress and is poised to breakout this year...

If mike white plays well then we either have a good backup for a few years or follow the patriot model and trade him for some good draft capital.

But dak is the qb for the next decade. Period
Dak's QBR last year was 17th in the league and actually worse than year 2 when he was 4th. I thought I saw Dak turning the corner on some throws last year, but usually people want their QBs best quality to be his throwing abilities and that is not the case for Dak. Broadly speaking I'd say his mental toughness is his best quality, 2nd would be his ability to make a play with his legs, and 3rd is passing. Not much of a history of QBs that have won a super bowl that way and now we are talking about paying him a big contract.

We will know a lot this year. Another so-so year and it will be tough to justify a big contract for Dak, at least not one that prevents us from signing other guys.

There is no way any backup QB is going to beat Dak. JG will not allow it it.

1.) Dallas refuses to even bring in any potential talented QB other than Dak. It would disrupt the feng shui of the Dallas Locker Room & they don't want to be prepared in the event of a Dak injury.

2.) JG refuses to even game plan for preseason games. Rush and White will only be playing with the scrubs and practice squad guys. JG won't even try to run an offense or move the ball. This is because JG and Jerry are smarter than every other team in the NFL. The Dallas cowboys plan on using the first 3 weeks of the regular season to get the team on the same page with the blocking, QB/Wr timing, and what not. Jerry likes to lose the first couple of games so at the end of the season Dallas is struggling to win games in order to make the playoffs.

Positional talent at QB?

I'm sorry, please suggest where there is actual positional talent to be had?

At least 10 NFL teams are playing backups as starters. There isn't an abundance of talent out there.

If you compare Dak's and Romo's careers, Tony would be getting his first start about six games into the coming season.
