They were sold on Romo too. Waste of a decade
Totally Agree! In 2012 when Romo had a chance during the Commander game to take this team to the playoffs and threw that int with 2 min left that was the end of it for me. I knew Dallas would never win anything with Romo. Dont make the same mistake twice by falling in love with a second rate QB. Go out and get yourself some real pedigree at the QB posiiton. That kid Trevor Lawrence is coming out in the draft.

Dallas hasnt won anything since Aikman! the last true QB with pedigree! yeah yeah yeah we know he had a great defense and running game but like Eli and Flacco and Rothlisberger he could come up with the goods when he needed to in playoff games. He didnt have periods where he went 1-10 on 3rd downs in big games. Thats just too much inconsistency!

Aikman obviously needed a talented supporting cast. It’s what he did with it on the bigger stages that often defines a career.

Romo greatness was elevating lesser teams. Those 3 8-8 seasons without Romo we were a 4 or 5 win team statistically otherwise with some of our worst defenses in history setting futility marks.

But when Romo had some better teams he didn’t have his best performances or signature games on the biggest stages in the playoffs. Came close in 2014 but the No Catch spoiled it. And never had another opportunity.

That’s the thing. You never know how many shots you will get. Must take advantage .

But now we have a QB who needs Elite talent to elevate his game. We’ve already seen what he is without it. It’s what you do with it and those opportunities that often define a career.

I doubt the Cowboys go 0-16 or 1-15 in 2020 for the 2021 draft.

He's going to blow away the previous hype people had for Andrew Luck in 2012.

Uhhh, Jerry drafted Quincy Carter. He also drafted Troy Aikman and Dak Prescott.
Jerry gave up on Quincy for Chutch and Henson. Parcels showed him all 3 were jokes.

Any team would have drafted Aikman that year in that spot, and Dak was a throwaway pick they didn't believe in.

My favorite part of the interview was where he acknowledged that Jason Garrett is "in the family portrait". Nice to hear him admit the obvious, but at the same time he confessed that "we have to win more games" which is publicly holding Garrett accountable and outing him on notice.

Essentially, "we love Jason, but we have to win more games or we have to make a change".

Yay accountability!

Jones has been completely sold on Prescott since October 2016 and even arguably earlier since the prior month. Barring Prescott suffering significant injury, some fans will continually repeat what Jones said about previously quarterbacks. Ten years from now, Crypt-keeper Jones will be saying how much he appreciates Prescott and some observers will automatically bring up Hutchinson, etc. The repetitive reaction is not unlike an old line from Battlestar Galactica: "All of this has happened before, and all of this will happen again."

Yes but we aren’t a championship caliber club, yet.

Again, it’s what you do with the supporting cast. Unless regular season success and playoff appearances is enough?

To me , the bigger question is how much further could we go with this core talent if we had a more Elite QB?

The current era is 2-3 in division wins. That's the biggest goal of the regular season, which we've met. To go on in the playoffs the entire team at all 3 phases need to play at a high level. Not just the QB.

So, you wouldn’t rather have a more Elite QB? That doesn’t have to be a bash on ours?

I’d like a greater FO and coaching staff too. Our QB passing skills looks to be another obstacle we must overcome.

Everyone is doing exactly what Jerry loves, keeping him and the Cowboys in the forefront of the news and blogs and articles. The man is a helluva of a business man regardless of what you think. He will do the same thing when they sign Dak and Cooper and Zeke and Jones. Heck I wouldn't be the least surprised if somehow he calls a press conference for something or other and trots out all four them to announce they have all signed extensions.

Think about it, everyone paper, newscast, blog, and article for weeks would be about the Cowboys and if they made the right decision or the wow factor or why or why not they are Super Bowl contenders or how stupid or smart Jerry and Steven are, or how this is going to destroy the Cowboys or make them the next Patriots or whatever. It will ultimately make the Cowboys the headlines until the start of the season and beyond. That my friends sells merchandise, tickets, and all products Dallas Cowboys and not just in Dallas but worldwide. We may think Jerry is not a good GM but businessman, well he is one of the very best.

Of course. I've repeatedly posted that I would improve every single position if needed. This usually gets ignored, because it is assumed I'm some Prescott homer. I just am being realistic. When you're building a team, you need to check all of the boxes.
Elite is the best of the best. I'll even go as far as top 5. Let's boost Romo up and say he was top 6-10 over his career. Where did that get us?
What we're starting to see more currently is better talent all around and more importantly competition and depth at positions of rotation.
You can dream all you want and somehow magically landing an elite, top 5 QB but it's so far from realistic that I'm ok with Prescott and adding a few more pieces and see what happens.

You can call the QB an obstacle, but I don't see it that way at all. In fact I think it's pretty ignorant to even assume. All we have is the 3 seasons he's played. What other QB had such a beginning? Point being, that's not an area of weakness as you keep repeating without any solution to your perceived problem. Instead of parroting Jerry sucks, or the QB isn't elite - how about come up with a reasonable and realistic solution.

The solution is in the draft .

Reaching the Super Bowl without a Top 10 QB is not the norm. We couldn’t surround Romo with enough . Not sure why we think we will Dak?

Here's a comparison between Dak and Tom Brady's first three years. I even give Brady a 'mulligan' for the rookie year he spent on the bench learning the NFL game and I started in year two when he actually played.

https://www.pro-football-reference....toyear_2=2018&player_id2=PresDa01&idx=players

But yeah, I won't stop anyone from continuing to try to bash Dak and only succeeding in making themselves look foolish. His play stacks right up to the greatest quarterback in the history of the sport at the same point in their careers. Again, this comparison is actually unfair to Prescott as he never got that same redshirt year to learn the NFL game.
