LOL....looking, I'll take that bet. The 5 reasons have everything to do with how good of QB he is for the Cowboys, NOT 31 other teams, but the Cowboys.

You might lose that bet.

- #1 was the silly "well in a few years his contract will be a bargain" reason.

- #3 talks about cap structure

- #4 talks about the overall Cowboys roster being a contender now

- #5 talks about what happens if you don't sign him now

#2 was the closest one to talking about what kind of QB he is.............. but in the context of this team has been built a certain way for him.

The only one that matters:

You have no alternative on a team built to win now.

Bingo, we have a winner. As of this moment he is our best chance of winning right now. The other option is to let him play this year and drop him. Then trade a ton of draft capital and maybe more to trade up into the top 5 for a rookie. We all know that isn't going to happen.

Market value is the one I didn't like. You only get market value if there is a market. No one is paying for something they already have or don't need. And right now I think only the Bengals are in the market for a starting QB.

Best case scenario. They sign Dak and he's proves to be worth it and Dallas wins or reaches the SB.

Worse case. Dallas signs Dak to a 5-6 year contract and the Cowboys go 9-7 or show little to no improvement this upcoming season.

That's not the only other option.

The Cowboys have a few options:

1) They could sign him now:

2) They could let him play out the 2019 season under his rookie deal.
  • If he plays well, you have two options
    1. Try to negotiate a long term deal or.......
    2. Tag him
  • If he plays poorly, you have two options
    1. Cut him free and look for another QB or...........
    2. Tag him while you look to draft another young QB

Could you point me to the reason that had something to do with his high skill as a player?

I just see a bunch of other reasons that have nothing to do with his ability. Maybe I missed it.

Some here refuse to consider the word "Skill" when it pertains to our Dak.
All they care about is having the most expensive Bus Driver in the NFL no matter how much damage it does to our team.
Another day in the Dak zone baby.......:omg::facepalm:

You did.......it's called the big picture. Think about it, if Jerry and/or Stephen didn't think of Dak as a franchise QB, none of the 5 reasonings would matter coz he would've been cut already or his replacement would be on the team as high round pick.

That's some real pretzel twisting here.

Catch is right. There is pretty much nothing in that article that says Dak should be signed to $30MM because he's a great QB. It's all reasons that have nothing to do with Dak himself.

That is a reach.

I said there would be nothing that had anything to do with skill as a player and after clicking and looking at it briefly I feel validated because I just see more stuff that is that has nothing to do with his on the field ability.

The reason he will get big money is because he has elite intangibles and sells a lot of jerseys. Not because he is actually an elite QB.

If anyone here can show ma a feasible alternative to Prescott as the QB, and letting him play out his contract is not an option as the cat was thrown out of the bag on that.

I want to see it. The complaining about the guy comes with no other options. Want to draft one? Good luck because they'll be letting players walk by the time the QB is arriving. And none of these guys come with a guarantee.

It's fine to complain about him as he's not near perfect but the continuing threads and posts about this are about the same as Booger needs to step down as GM.

Ya know, if this is your team, you've got to accept some things that will not be changed and focus more on the aspects of the team you do like, unless you just like to ***** as therapy. Look for warts and they're easy to find. Just focus on the bad plays and overlook the good ones.

Dak Prescott is going to get paid and he is going to be the franchise QB for at least the next 3-4 years so you can divide the guarantee by 3 or 4 and there's the hook. Which is pretty much in line with the window of opportunity. But this is not about him, it's about the team. They will go only as far as the team can take them. And if you think that was different with Staubach or Aikman, it was not.

Feasible alternative is to draft.

You may say that is ridiculous but what is just as ridiculous is paying mediocre talent elite money just because he is the only option at the time.

His 20ish TD's that he passes for will be easy to replace.

Doesn't it get old and boring bashing on Prescott at the slightest mention of him? Christ sake, give it a rest and find something else to follow.

That's some real pretzel twisting here.

Catch is right. There is pretty much nothing in that article that says Dak should be signed to $30MM because he's a great QB. It's all reasons that have nothing to do with Dak himself.
But can't the same thing be said of most of the other QB's? It's a must have position that has a must pay price tag with it that has jumped 50% in just a couple of years.

The rising cap each year has ignited these agent s for the QB's to get more of that piece of the pie. In the perfect world, the cap rising would result in better paydays across the board but that's not happening, it is only a few positions eating up most of the additional cap.

All we need to do is look at RB's changing to WR's and C/OG trying to move to OT in college to know what the real incentive and motivation is. Booger was able to sign Collins because he promised him OT and OT's make the most on the OL. And the difference in earnings between a RB and WR over their lifespan is huge and the lifespan is better for WR's.

It isn't about the quality of the QB, it is about what do they have to pay to have a decent one that gives them a chance. That's the going rate and price to pay to try and contend.

Look at what's happened just since we began discussing Prescott and his future. We were yakking about 25M and now it's already up to 30M. The escalating salaries of the QB is nothing more than payback to the owners for the rule changes that made just average QB's a necessity, if that's all a team can get.
