This makes no sense considering I showed you can make room to sign the proven young talent.

Oh I know about the Hurns/Crawford moves if that's what you're referring to. I'm leading that charge. But that buys you one year of McCoy's salary if it is $10 million or more. Cutting those two saves about $12 million at most, which would cover just one year of McCoy. If hes' got multi-year offers, those future salaries will have to come from cuts elsewhere.

No bueno.

If you guarantee 1 year and half of salary and sign him to a 3 year it gives you an out if need be. But figure next year you would have room when sean lee and witten get cut.

Or the carryover money people are all worked up about.

Or the cutting of more dead weight in the future (or the roll offs of contracts for players we don't need anymore).

Or the overall increase of the cap.

I would easily pay McCoy a 2 year deal, even 3 year deal, depending on the guaranteed money. Because in the end, that's all that really matters. If some team gets him for 3 years, $45MM but only $15-20MM is guaranteed, I could live with a deal like that.

Not when Dak and Cooper, and possibly Elliott, and Byron Jones or Jaylon Smith get paid.

No room at the inn.

I'm hearing that Cleveland is showing real interest for McCoy. That's almost unfair with their present defense.

You forget those first years the cap hits are fairly low. It's later on down the line those cap hits start to grow.

I couldn't. And neither can this team.

And if you're aware that "the guaranteed money is all that matters", do you think the guy that just got released from a 3 year $33 million deal doesn't realize it?

Do you think his agent will make that same mistake twice?

He's got a market, he's getting paid. He's getting guaranteed money. Good for him, he's a good guy. But that won;t be from the Cowboys.

I'm not forgetting that, but I'm also aware that they're not entirely backloaded either.

Yep - we like our JAG’s at DT.

Most are banking on the cap increase to make those hits a lower %

It's going up $10 million a year, not $50 million.

Look, this is much ado about nothing. If somehow it comes up that McCoy is visiting or talking with the Cowboys, we can discuss it further then.

But with the numbers and teams being talked about, which don't include Dallas, I think it's a waste of time to debate further.

They might not have a choice.

Again, you should probably wait to see what he actually gets before we make proclamations here. I mean there were some people claiming Suh would probably get a long term and he got a pretty team friendly one year, $10MM deal. I don't think McCoy is going to end up with this huge, long term, guaranteed contract. But maybe I'll be wrong.

So our top draft resource was wasted on a "JAG"? Is that your claim?

True but our top draft choice has never taken a NFL snap. He may end up just being a JAG himself for all we know.

McCoy makes so much sense on so many levels. But alas, as the saying goes, "we like our guys".

Stephen probably spent the afternoon over the toilet up chucking thinking about what it might cost to bring in McCoy. Anything over $4MM and he gets nauseous.

I'll certainly wait, but I'll also go by what I see, and tell me if I'm wrong.

I see one guy (Suh) that has been a free agent and had no market at all for months, until the Bucs cut their guy and made an offer.

And now I see a guy just hitting the market, that has teams lining up to talk with him (McCoy).

Is any of that inaccurate?

We only bring in guys that suck and overpay them.

McCoy is better than Suh.

There's a sizable distance between the "$4 million" you're claiming and the "$10-$11 million a year" being talked about regarding McCoy.

Rather than "we like our guys", maybe we should be saying "we need our cap space to keep our guys"?
