Yes the cap will go up, but what if some other running back gets a lot more money, then Zeke's value will go up, and your additional cap money would be eaten up by that possibly.

No, the Cowboys don't have to sign Dak, nobody is saying that. But he won't sign a 1 or 2 more year deal, it'll be at least 4, and even if you sign him for like $35 mil a year, in 3-4 years that will likely be a bargain, as long as he and/or the team improves.

If you think there's zero reason to sign Dak now, fine, but it's not a black and white decision...

At the least, if the Cowboys go away from Dak, then there's no guarantee the new guy will be any better. No guarantee he won't of course, again, nobody knows, you pays your money and takes your chance;)
So why take the chance. You know what you have a winner

So you want to pay a guy $34MM a year because you see him as a leader? That's absurd.

And sure, coaching is important but you still have to have talent to be a great QB. You, yourself, just said this coming year will show us what we have in Dak. Why in the world would you commit such a massive financial commitment to a QB that you are looking for this coming year to prove to you what kind of QB he is?
Yeah I want to pay him that much money. I know what the alternatives are. Yeah you pay a winner

Because I know what kind of quarterback he isn't. He's not a loser. Again I know what the alternatives are

OMG!!!!!! if he gets 30 million a year I will cry. This is insane! Do not sign him this year and tag him the next 2 years and let him walk. Start looking for his replacement.

Sorry but this is greed!

I said this year we will truly know what we have in a quarterback. I already know the kid can win. You don't need to carry a team to pay a quarterback that much money. Because this is no longer just about the quarterback. That's why I don't care for the word elite. If you don't have balance camaraderie you're not winning anything.

Why more? Wentz is trending up if he can stay healthy while Dak has trended down. His max contract should be $25.8 million average over the total life of the deal including this year’s salary so as to match Wentz’s deal. It basically works out to a 5 year $152.8 million extension putting him under contract for 6 years at $154.8 million. Boom, $25.8 a year average for 6 years. Give him $107 million in guarantees and bonuses to match the others and there you have the fair deal for each side. I don’t like it as it’s way too much for the inconsistency and unknown future of Dak but it’s either that or let him go which I know the team won’t do. The other option is to make him play this year for $2 million and franchise him. I like this option the best as it gives us another 2 years to see who he becomes but it may cost $40 million a year to sign him in two years.

You should be the GM!

The quarterback play in the playoffs last season was atrocious. Including Tom Brady. Had one great drive at the end of the Super Bowl. Jared Goff sucked so did Mahomes. And Drew Brees he was the worst of all of them. I think Prescott had the best playoff game.

Now, see once again you point out the very flaw I keep jiving off your silly incoherent post... go figure

Why would anybody put in the effort to "figure" anything you post? That requires some amount of time and how could that possibly be worth the effort? I just think you are reading too much into the value of your posts there guy. IDK.

And this might make sense if you didn't have options other than just hand him a huge contract.

But we have options. We don't have to pay him a huge contract right now. So what the "alternatives" are doesn't matter at this point. The Cowboys could literally do nothing and Dak would be their QB in 2019.

And Dak didn't "inherit" the "leagues leading rusher", Zeke arrived at the same time as Dak, he wasn't there the year before Dak became the starter.

Though I do have to stick up a bit for Beasley, it's just possible he wasn't used as well as he could have been. We'll see how he does on a team that hasn't been that great lately...
Many Cowboy fans don't realize Cole Beasley had the best hands in the entire league for passes percentages caught. I think it was like 84 percent in 2016. The ball touches his hands the man caught it. He just didn't have the tools to do something with it afterwards

Look I don't care if they pay him or they don't pay him I'm not a mathematician every time people said this team was in cap hell we got out of it we weren't. I know his replacement isn't , out there because we are ready to win right now with this team

OK, so why pay him a massive contract, when you don't have to, if this coming year is when we will "truly know what we have in a QB".

And if it's not about the QB, then why are you willing to pay him an elite contract at this point?

This is what I don't really understand. I mean, how does the team become as sold as you suggest when they just brought in a first year OC and a brand new QB coach, neither of which has given a full season's evaluation of who or what the team has at QB? I just think that doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

JMO
I get it. These are all just our opinions. I am wondering if JJ and SJ aren’t setting on the yacht getting details worked out. Guaranteed and signing bonus stuff. Or maybe they will use what leverage they have and if he don’t come down then they gamble and let him play out the rookie deal and see. If we go to the championship or SB then they pay the going rate. And will be happy doing it.

Odds are we at least repeat last year with the talent we have. Then we have a QB that has won the division and went to the playoffs 3 out of his first 4 years. That’s pretty impressive for a QB in his rookie deal. Has there been another one that’s done that. I know it’s a team game and he has a great team around him.

Man that 2016 team was set. I often wonder how far we went if Romo was the QB..

Pay him know or pay him more later. That's the gamble the franchise takes. I say pay the kid. 6 years plus. I spread the money out. I know it's not like buying a house LOL
