Having JG as HC allows JJ to continue to run the team without getting any resistance from him. Now he gets no contact extension so it looks like JJ is putting him on the hot seat. If we make the playoffs again this year he will get the extension or JJ will continue to pay him a year at a time. If we lose and are booted from the playoffs then JJ will blame it on the cleats again or the water boy will get canned.

JG ain’t going anywhere
JJ and JG had a convenient fall guy in Linehan who took the fall for last year
They have a convent fall guy in our current DC and another convenient excuse in a new young OC
Those will be the reasons (along with the always convenient “you can’t build a team in only ‘x’ years) this off season

If he does hire a "football coach" Jerry will screw it up by keeping JG and moving him into the front office,

My money is on one of the position coaches moving up to HC depending on the season.

I think Jerry would pay big money if Payton becomes available if this team exits the playoffs early. If they make it to the NFCCG, it depends on how they lose if Garrett stays or goes. But if Payton is available before that happens. I think Jerry goes for it unless Garrett wins the SB.
Man ,that conference championship game should've been the ultimatum's sighted goal,,,for the past 3 years running,ya know?

* it's Now or Never in the season year of "19" ,,,if Garrett breaks that threshold, he's solid gold till past our FOOTBALL DaD's mortal time above ground,,,

There’s probably nothing less than a Super Bowl win that will prevent the bashing of Garrett.

After all with almost 25 years since our last championship Jerry is still receiving a pass from many for his early SB wins.

Fans have to look past Garrett’s field general weaknesses for his greater contribution as a walk around advisor to our GM. The influences over Jerry in the culture of our team and franchise are Garretts greatest assets to the Dallas Cowboys.

Garrett’s asset is propping up our dysfunctionally led franchise from the distractions which would be in total shambles like it was before Parcells resurrected it from the ashes because Jerry is unwilling to let anyone else run football operations including his son. And doesn’t want a more reputable HC who could receive more credit like Jimmy did.

Garrett’s criticism feeds perfectly into Jerry’s agenda. Jerry can handle and deflect the public outcry unlike anyone I can recall in recent sports history. The more criticism Garrett takes the more credit Jerry could receive if they have more success.

As long as Garrett can prevent the team from collapsing remaining relevant , Jerry can continue freewheeling and manage the rest.
Nothing better for you to do but crap on the Cowboys......again.

I don't see many giving passes to Jerry or Garrett. Hell 2/3 of the threads here are bashing of Jerry, Garrett and Dak. There is seldom a day that goes by where a new thread or hijacked thread is not bashing them. Way I see it Jerry as GM and owner choose to take the heat and so that is on him, having said that there have been moves made by the team that I have agreed with and some that I did not but at the end of the day it all falls to winning championships that this team has failed to do it so and that is on Jerry. As for Garrett I like him but not as much as I like the team and I do think this is a critical year for him and this franchise. I do think there is enough talent on both sides of the ball to make a run

What would it say if neither of those occur?

If Garrett didn’t make the nfc championship game and still had a job?

Then I would know for sure there is no accountability for him....I mean I kinda already know that but to be here since 2007 and to go into 2020 with no playoff success other than one win vs philly, one win against Detroit and one win against Seattle in the 14 years he’s been on the coaching staff would be downright disgusting

Yep ..That’s part of it.

What would it say about our ownership?

Expectations create disappointments.

While I’d agree we have enough talent to make a run I don’t see us as a Top 4 team in NFL or Top 2 in NFC so a championship appearance isn’t expected.

Garrett kinda reminds me of Romo. He led us to the brink but couldn’t carry us over the threshold.

I’d be harsher on Garrett if we had a #1 defense or QB. And while we have accumulated a fairly talented roster that is a divisional and playoff contender until we have an Elite QB with a top offense and or #1 defense I don’t really expect us to seriously contend for a SB.

You judge Garrett with a 90s mindset in terms of his results.

He’s had just about every type of team you can manage to build in a salary cap league.

Even last year our defense was nasty and somehow we let a random RB run all over us and that is with a top 5 run defense.

Also, we skip free agency so that is another reason we will never become loaded everywhere.

We were a borderline top 10 defense which a run oriented offense propped up. But not enough to carry a bottom tier offense further.

Now if we’d had that type of defense when we had a top 5-10 offense then we’d of been a bigger threat.

Any coach that hasn’t won a super bowl after 10 years should be bashed. No coach deserves this much time.

Then you might have fired some of the greatest HC’s in NFL history.

The SB or Bust mentality is shortsighted IMO.

I learned from playing sports from a kid into my early 20's anytime you step on the playing field their can only be 2 outcomes success or failure I'm not afraid of disappointment it is part of any game you play. As for the high expectation yes I think this team has the talent on both sides to make a run if they fail they fail but just based on my own views I think they have the chances this season to make a real run.

I still find if funny when people will say pump the breaks on enthusiasm of a player or the team in general, I can deal with disappointment if they fall short. Only times I have ever been furious with this team is when they have quit on themselves, the coaches and the organization. There have been many seasons when looking at the overall talent that I did not expect much but still expected them to play hard. This season as I mentioned I see enough talent on both sides to feel they have a legit chance. We will see how it goes

The most popular and #1 team in Revenue isn’t easily forgotten. You need to align your priorities with the greatest promoter in football. Dr Jerry “ Jethro” Jone$. Lol

And this is his problem. He's getting old and already has enough money to last 100 lifetimes. Who cares about a little extra revenue he won't be able to spend when he dies. People never remember you for how much money you had. People WOULD remember him getting another Super Bowl here, though. The ones in the 90s are ancient now. As of now, the perception of him is he road the coat tails of Jimmy for those rings and then after that, he collapsed and it's been a few decades of mediocrity. On the field play, we are no more relevant than the other junk teams in this league. The reason we are still relevant is how much power and clout the star and our name got from the 60s-90s. We are on the same level as the Houston freaking Texans right now in terms off success since the turn of the century.

But it won't get better once Jerry is gone. Stephen is just as bad.
