I could see Garrett getting fired if Dak was his guy and he was behind kicking Romo to the curb if Dak flakes out. Then I could see us moving in another direction with a new HC and QB.

I hope that is not the case, I would rather win with these guys and this coach than to see this team start over. I think this team has done a good job of accumulating the talent to win and fully expect them to go out and win.

Yep

But on the other hand a proven HC and more prolific passer could instantly elevate this team.

I think Dak will continue to develop and I think the kid is a leader and a winner. I have watched this team and many other teams look for years to find that QB but as BP would say there is no 1-800-QB you just call up. As for Garrett I do think he has to move this team over the hump and I hope he does. I don't have the hate others may have for him.

I certainly hope so. Prescott has many intangible assets and I don’t believe Garrett is as bad as some make him out to be. There’s hope both are enough.

But if we lost them it wouldn’t necessarily mean we’d have to start completely over depending who we replaced them with.

That’s your perception from the events. It’s not an official declaration.

Jimmy did not run the team. He heavily influenced the personnel decisions and why he received more credit which fumed Jerry enough to part ways after back to back championships.

Jerry has been a part time GM all along regardless the ownership distractions. And Stephen has had his same role all along. Nothing has changed but some fans perception.

Sure, Jerry has delegated more air time it appears to Stephen but he’s always fielded interviews even shared time with Jerry in his weekly show on local tv during the season.

Do you think if they reach their goals Jerry is going to give Stephen more credit or Stephen is going to rise up demanding more credit ?

I’m not sure why fans are so determined to take away credit from Jerry for listening more to the influences around him ? But I have my suspicions.

Again I’ll ask why Jerry refuses to give more credit to Stephen for this perceived new responsibility you feel has transpired?

If you are not perceptive enough to know that Jimmy was in charge of football operations, then there's no point discussing anything else.

The extent of Jerry's input was the financial side. The finances were tight back then. The team was losing millions per year when Jerry purchased it and Jerry borrowed most of the 140M for the purchase. Jerry was involved when they paid Bernie Kosar 1M to be the backup and when Emmitt held out over a new contract, but Jimmy was in charge of personnel. Jimmy's contract specifically put him in charge of football operations.

The Herschel deal isn’t done if Jerry doesn’t agree.

Obviously your missing my message. Of course Jimmy was heavily influencing football decisions but Jerry still had to approve. That’s what bosses do. They listen, take advise and then make final decisions.

If we don't win a playoff game past the wildcard round the perfect puppet will be replaced.
In my opinion, Jerry Jones is a gambler at heart. I believe Jones has never hedged all his bets on the success of the team being the sole byproduct of head coach's coaching ability. I think he equally weighs other factors like roster health, opposing teams' strengths and weakness, and luck (both good and bad) as determinants that dictate overall and final seasonal results.

Taking all factors into consideration, I can foresee two scenarios where Garrett does not get axed:

  1. Dallas finishes second in the division behind Philadelphia and makes the playoffs as a wild card, which the Cowboys win but then loses in the divisional round while displaying a 'strong effort'.
  2. Dallas finishes first in the NFC East, gets the first-round bye but loses in the divisional round (again) while battling hard in the defeat.
Emphasis was intentionally hypothesized about how hard the players would visibly display in a playoff defeat. One of the qualities I believe Jones holds Garrett in high esteem is his singular ability in getting the team to (usually) exert maximum effort. It would not surprise me if Jones rationalizes a 'key' injury here or a well-oiled opposing team's play or an unlucky bounce or two as the main reasons why the team did not advance to the conference championship round. If true, it would suggest Jones taking another 'We'll get them next time' approach and not fire Garrett.

Of course, I could be reading Jones completely wrong. The only time I believed the odds were low in Garrett keeping his job was after the 2015 season. He survived and oversaw two additional postseason appearances and three +.500 seasons. It is why I am not very convinced that another pre-conference championship appearance exit will ultimately be Garrett's doom. Or, at least, not following the conclusion of this upcoming season.

What’s odd is that typically when you call a coach a puppet, that’s not a good thing, Yet the OP, later in this thread, seemingly argues we are lucky to have Garrett.

LOL. Wut?

It's an oxy-moron. Garrett sucks, but he's perfect at it.

And who exactly is going to replace Dak?

Then I guess Garrett needs to trade for an established HOF QB pronto.[/QUOTE]Lol, right. They're everywhere....
The problem with that is we have almost all of the pieces now and Prescott is a fine QB.

We had a prolific QB with Romo. Put up plenty of gaudy stats, broke franchise stat records but that wasn't enough to cover for an unbalanced team.
Prolific stats are nice for fantasy leagues though.

I've been whining about the defense for awhile. Glad it's solid again.

Many. He obviously thinks QB’s are a dime a dozen.
He's trolling. Keeps repeating the same things thinking it will stick. We're in good shape with the current era. Nice and balanced. Stats never got us anywhere.

If we’d thought of it sooner there were other options. In the 11th hour now... not much.
Exactly so no amount of complaining is going to change anything. Sit back and hope for the best. I for one believe Dak is more than capable to lead this team to multiple Super Bowls..

That’s great you believe that. Not all of us feel the same way or follow the same path in our fandom.

I don’t come to a fan forum to sit back and hope for the best. That’s what I do at kick off.

There’s probably nothing less than a Super Bowl win that will prevent the bashing of Garrett.

After all with almost 25 years since our last championship Jerry is still receiving a pass from many for his early SB wins.

How about a super bowl appearence? Or an NFC title game appearence? The bar is pretty low in Dallas these days. Jerry is happy when the team has a chance to win. One of the big on-going problems over the few decades is that there isn't a standard in Dallas that anyone is held too. Garrets going into his 9th season as HC and he only has 2 wildcard wins. That sucks on any team, let alone one with the storied history of this franchise.
