There's a reason Dak wants to get paid now

He just has to produce. Our Defense has to play well and limit the other team.
 
In 2018, Prescott didn't have to face a defense that was ranked in the Top 5 in passer rating. Three of 2019's opponents (Vikings, Bills, Bears) ranked in the Top 5 last year. Last year's rankings may have little to do with 2019, but just the law of averages says it's highly unlikely that Dak would go a second consecutive season without facing a Top 5 pass defense at least once.

Prescott's first three seasons
in 6 career games vs. Top 5 Pass Defenses:
110 of 192 (57%) 1155 yd (6.0 ypa) 6 td 6 int 72.3

vs. all other opponents during that time (44 games)
928 of 1382 (67%) 10474 yd (7.6 ypa) 66 td 21 int 99.2

Historically (and predictably), young QB struggle against elite pass defenses. (These numbers are not adjusted for era.)

Romo's first four seasons as a starter
in 9 career games vs. Top 5 Pass Defenses:
204 of 337 (59%) 2409 yd (7.1 ypa) 10 td 11 int 78.6

vs. all other opponents during that time (52 games)
1086 of 1706 (64%) 13572 yd (8.0 ypa) 102 td 46 int 97.0

Uh...his OL is deep, he has weapons everywhere (wrs/rbs/good young te's), why can't he keep up offensively? Unless you think Moore's playcalling won't cut it. His defense too should be better than last years.

I 100% agree - wait until next off-season. I mean if the guy already wants paid like a top QB whats it hurt waiting another year and then paying him like a top QB?
 
It's different if we had someone behind Dak. Recall post Aikman era. Anyone recall the 2015 season? We had several vets who couldn't win is a game !!!

In your opinion how should they pay Dak if this season is just like last year? Not too long away people where complaining about paying Dak $20-$25M per. Now the likely range is somewhere around $28-$32M. Next year the range could be $32-$36M. No matter what people are going to complain.

This is nonsense. First, no one knows how good ANY team will be this early.
2nd, Prescott would make more money if he waited as the market value increases when older contracts get extended.

What does this have to do with his stock? He dragged this team to the playoffs last year.

What is most humbling in this very polarizing debate on who gets payed is not that the Dallas Cowboys franchise did not draft well, Dak a 4th round gem/steal.
Zeke, 4th pick overall, can be argued forever, and sure it will be, but at the time of the pick, was a stud RB on talent alone,, but now we see his true immaturity,, so fans that opposed that pick at the time he was drafted, are the hard core value drafters, that say never invest that much capital in a RB when you have a probowl OL,,, yes, yes,, lets please let that drop. Zeke was drafted 4th overall, lets let history just be history, what this franchise has to do is figure who they are,,, Im not talking about the players,, Im talking about the front office.
Who are you?
What are you going to do now?
What really defines this franchise moving forward?
Do you pay starting franchise QB money like other teams in this league with sub par talent at the position just because they are starters in this league at the position?
Kirk Cousins, Mathew Stafford, Matty Ice, Derek Carr? All of those franchises gave up big guaranteed money for their hopeful franchise QB,,, Dak will get a contract like Russell Wilsons, and I didnt even include him in that peer group, because Dak hasnt passed the eye test to be compared to RW yet,, maybe he does but who knows at this point.
Thats all Im saying. All Im saying is why even rush it,, let the contracts play out its in the best interest of this franchise, cap wise, to just let this play out at this point.
Im looking at Cooper as the only must retain player at this point,, he immediately changed the entire passing offense, and cost a first.
Its priorities,, and this can be debated forever, but investing in average and red flags never has a good return.

Like a tier 2 QB at best - You can't ask for 35 million if you've never threw for more than 4000 yds or 25 tds.

So if Dak leads Cowboys to a 3rd NFCE title and throws for 3,999 yds and 24 tds then you do pay him the going rate? The pay scale will continue to climb. What if tier 2 floor is $35M? No matter what he signs for there will be a lot of people complaining.
