If it’s a good offer and Elliot pushes it to far then I say let him sit. I know he is a major part of the Offense but he isn’t all of it.

Running backs are not respected now in this league. There was a time when a real stud would be with a team for more than one contract. Franchising them to get an extra two years and then jettisoning the player is the owners maneuver. The player gets his original contract and if he outperforms, too bad. He'll get an extra two years with no real security.

Now this is important.

This year Zeke doesn't make a great deal considering his stature with the team. He is nearly 40% of the offense. (As a side note, his salary is a great amount to working stiffs like us. But this is an entertainment venue and those guys get paid well. The argument about how much he makes versus us isn't germane,)

This is the year Zeke has the hammer. This year only. Next year he will be making about threer times what he makes this year oin his last year of his contract.

This is about security He could sign a four or five year contract and have so much guaranteed, if the worst case scenario happened he would still have choices and enough money to find anoither gig. Not football if it were an injury.

So if Zeke got a debilitating injury in the first year of his franchise, he gets no more money. But Jerry understands this, and frankly this is where I think the team prepares better than most. They will sign him and this goes away and the season will roll on.

This is business and honoring his contract - which we'd be held tro that standard - does not apply because of the way the league treats the players, which is essentially meat.

Different world, different rules.
Disagree. Zeke should play out this 4th year. He's scheduled to make $3.8 million. That's not chump change. He could easily renegotiate his contract a year from now before training camp starts. It would work out for both him and the team, but no, he's simply being greedy. You know it. I know it. Everybody knows it. Quit making excuses for him. Excuses are what disloyal people create to cover up for their unwillingness to honor their original contract.

I haven't come to Zeke's defense yet on this forum, but I do understand why he's holding out.

The market value for RB's is plummeting. The deal the Rams gave Todd Gurley is giving them remorse now that he's having knee issues. The Jets signed Le'Veon Bell for less than Gurley money.

Zeke plays a punishing position that has a limited shelf life. We can tell him to be a man and play out his deal; but a major injury in 2019 or 2020 could see him never get his big payday. Zeke knows this may be his one and only chance to cash in big as a pro.

He's under contract for 2 years with a scheduled $9 mil set to get paid his last year. If I were Jerry, I would let him sit out this year. Fine him for every day he misses until he decides to show up to work this year. If Zeke doesn't like it, start looking for trading partners. Guarantee Zeke won't perform as well running behind a lesser Oline and around lesser talent. Plus, he will not gain the sponsorship or notoriety he currently gets while wearing a star on his helmet. The Joneses can't allow the players to dictate policy so early throughout their contracts. It would set a bad example that would allow others to do the same. The Jones make the rules. It's their business, not the players. If players don't like being forced to honor their contracts until the last year remaining, go play elsewhere. Good luck with that. There are plenty more who would love to wear a star on their helmet. It comes with rules but lots of benefits if you honor your contract(s).

If he's truly intent on going through with the holdout, it really won't matter. In the worse case scenario the cowboys would be forced to tag him three times. That would be cost prohibitive.
He’s going to be signed soon.

Not only will Zeke not like that, but the entire rest of the team won’t either.

Too bad. When do the players dictate what the organization should do so early in their contracts? It's ridiculous. Honor your contracts. Start negotiating with a year left. That's how it's always been.

They don’t but the chemistry in the locker room does. Charles Haley had a little bit to say about Emittts hold out.

Great points. And let me add Jerry Jones took on Roger Goodell and the entire NFL on Zeke's behalf trying to get his suspension overturned in 2017.

I wonder if Jerry sticking his neck out for Zeke has come up in negotiations?

Let me ask you a question. If this was your son, knowing what you know about the lifespan of a RB in the NFL, what would you suggest he do?

It's easy to get mad because we're fans and not look at this from a different angle but we know there's a clock ticking on that position and many a RB has never returned to form, or earnings, after an injury and the way he runs, that's coming. The team has ridden him for 3 years and gotten a bargain with him, as well as the QB, but bills come due.

He's not dumb, he's looking around and sees what Gurley's making and he came into the NFL injured and Elliott has not missed a game because of injury and he sees what's happening with Melvin Gordon and realizes he really is in a vulnerable position financially as a workhorse RB.

And it would not surprise me at all if he's talked with Demarco Murray about this. Murray was never the same back after that 2014 season and the same HC is in charge.

And I keep coming back to this one fact, he didn't bring up a new contract, Booger's son did that. Then they option him. Would you trust these people or back to the question, not talk to your son about who he places his trust in with this team?

The point stands. Maybe someone should right a thesis about why every idiot decides to create threads about whatever some moron with a Twitter posts.

That is a pretty facile look at the OP. It's not just a few sentences. It's a picture with his agent meaning that they are working which is an excellent thing.
