He is under contract. I understand he wants a new deal but holding his "friends" and the locker room hostage is not how to go about it. Jerry has never been a cheap guy, he pays his stars very well. But even he can't have the 3 highest paid players a their position in the league. Zeke should be in camp, period. This hold out is just a slap in the face to the team that has stood by him and fought for him. Like I said, it's not even a contract year right now. He isn't justified in this hold out and i bet behind closed doors, his "friends" are pissed about it.
His "friends" are just like him, all about the money.

Justified is not an easy one because they could have dumped him if he'd injured himself and all he would have gotten was some injury settlement and that happens to RB's.

He sees the out of control salaries to QB's, one rumored to be to his own QB, WR's and even DE's on his team and knows the longevity curve on his position is the shortest.

If this was your son, would you feel the same? I'd be telling mine to do the same thing, especially with a team that ran the legs off a RB in his contract year. The QB gets 30M and the RB gets 3? And the QB isn't even considered in the top 10.

Now, add to this that they're the ones that brought up a new contract. Didn't they invite this problem running their mouths? Booger would do better to keep his son off the radio.

He doesn't have nearly the leverage you think.

For example, if he doesn't show up by Aug 6th, he loses a year of service which means he's no closer to FA than he would be after playing this season.

The whole August 6th is being over blown. He knows that at some point he is going to get a contract extension from the Cowboys so the whole free agency thing, if it ever happens, wouldn’t be until after the new extension expires. By then he would have accrued enough years, so whether or not he shows by Aug 6th this year is really irrelevant.

Why. Its his 4 year of his rookie contract that he agreed to. Yes he has out played every other RB in the league. But you were smiling when you never took a snap in the NFL and signed the back of that 16 million dollar signing bonus check. If they are offering you more than gurly then sign the contract. The rams were dumb to give him that contract and now other teams have to offer more. SJ said he had the money set to the sign for Elliot, it starts with gurly money and goes up. So that opening offer was gurly money.. Not a low ball offer.
Son said it was that mysterious "solid" offer, whatever that is.

I remember when they said they'd made an offer to Murray and the word "insult" got thrown back at them. Ego and pride are intertwined within all of this money and Elliott's agent knows this team is the most likely to blink so there's no hurry for him to show up. And certainly no hurry to respond to anything quickly, the Joneses are among the worst negotiators in the league, if not the worst. Any negotiator that talks to the media as much as they do is inviting a problem.

We could get two 1st rounders for Zeke easy.....can we replace a talent like Zeke esp when you have Dak as your QB ......NOPE.....
Pappy, how many teams do you think would actually draft a RB in the 1st round?

Cabo is not far away from the US. I believe he was working out there when he was suspended.

Cabo just south of California, so a short trip to Oxnard if it happens. As long as he is working out that's not a major concern to me at this point.

Common man, it ain´t as easy as that, Zeke is one of the best backs in the NFL, it`s not only about speed, it`s vision, intelligence, QB protection etc..
Saying that, I still believe this will get resolved, no way he misses the opener.
You lost me at intelligence.

Your point is about accruing a recognized season toward his contract. If you sign a 6 year deal, and dont show up until week 12 of the first year, you still have another 6 years you owe the team after that.

His August 6th point is for a player who has played fewer than 4 years in the nfl, which is the threshold for removing the 'restricted FA' label. His contract will still count as an accrued year if he shows up on August 10th as by your point, but he will need to then play 5 years in order to be an unrestricted FA, because his fourth year didn't count toward that specific nuance.

However, this won't matter to Zeke, because his rookie contract is already 5 years, and if they don't extend him he's likely franchised anyway. So losing a year of unrestricted free agency won't matter, as he'll be a Cowboy for 5-6 years regardless.

I'm not certain if you agree or disagree with me.

Let's step back and 1st discuss the scenario if he did not have the 5th year option.

If this was his 4th and final season on his contact (no 5th year option) then:
  • If he plays games 11 to 16 of 2019, he would then be a free agent in March of 2020.

Very true. You should never negotiate through the media. They are only looking for clicks on stories.

Also the bigger the number on the end contract the more the agent makes, so I disregard their " we need this" type of stuff....

A restricted free agent. Cowboys could tender him and another team would have to pay a draft pick to sign him. If they tendered him at first round pick, it'd be unlikely he gets much of a market. This is what he'd be avoiding if he showed up by August 6th.
