as some are suggesting, it's back to 8-8. That is what this formula gets you. Paying a few stars a ton of money always leads back to mediocrity. Especially if they're mostly on one side of the ball.

I don't like free agency. I don't want to high price leftover play someone else doesn't want for that exact reason. I believe in football players not primadonnas. Give me a team of solid football players great coaching, teach them to play as one. Unstoppable. Culture of the locker room camaraderie is so important today. So again give me a bunch of solid football players

I don't mind the players making the money, but 50 million bucks is being sneezed at and called "disrespecting". One of the stupidest things I've ever heard.

I used to think I'd always be a football fan, but I'm starting to wonder.

Byron Jones look as good as gone.

La'el Collins is gone.

Maliek looks ready for a breakout but can we afford him?

Jaylon is about due for a new deal and he will get a big contract.

All of these big contracts and we have no championships to show for it so my worry is we get locked into these players for the next 5 years and the team around them gets worse.

IF they weren't able to win a title with better players around them I don't see them doing it when they get paid and the team around them deteriorates.

Can you imagine if Dallas paid top five money to 6 players just on offense alone?

Not to mention Lawrence, and with Vander Esch, Jaylon, and Jones, too?

Meanwhile, New England doesn't pay top five money to anyone on their team.

There is something fundamentally wrong with the salaries being bandied about. According to agents, Dallas has:
- The best RB in football
- One of the best WR's in football
- One of the best DE's in football
- Some very good DB's
- Two of the best LB's
- One of the best OL's
- A QB who should be nearly the highest paid player in the NFL

Basically, almost across the board Dallas is near the best.

As much as I love the team . . . bullcrap. These guys aren't going to go 16-0. Before the Cooper trade, Dallas was trending towards one of the worst records in the NFL. There is some significant overrating going on. If Jerry doesn't get rational deals here he is going to end up losing some players and paying the full cap for a team that struggles to make 8-8.

Years when you had a healthy, longterm QB and a top 5 NFL run game:

2009
2014
2016
2017
2018

Winning record every year, playoffs 4 out of 5 years, all 3 playoff wins in this group. If you paid everyone, it would not be like the 8-8 years.

New England is a different bird with Brady's willingness to take less money throughout the years. It 1) allows more money to be spent on other players, and 2) sets the tone for the team. And players know they have a shot at getting a ring with New England.

Zeke, Cooper, and Dak need to get together and decide if they'd rather have max money and be on a team that likely won't be able to afford keeping a strong supporting cast together OR 2) take less and have a longer window.

Why do teams let good players walk? No coach loves him a D as much as Belichick and let a DE walk who is as good as Lawrence and he showed up in crunch time, why? He trades players in their prime coming up for contracts, why?

The answer is so simple and most teams just don't get it. He's all about building the team, he could care less about stars or fan favorites or a bunch of posters on their web site with the ever present "pay the man".

It is damned tough to build and maintain a winner and damned few can do it. It helps if you've got that top gun QB but it's still a little bit lightning in a bottle for most.

The Cowboys are cornering themselves with all of these big contracts but the one thing that does balance that is being good at drafting and getting cheap young talent on the field but the bill comes due on that as well. If they have to let Byron Jones walk, can they find another? Same with the Collins', the Woods', Jaylon and let me just say this "replaceable" thing I see here, I saw that before with Free and Leary. You don't know what you've got until you lose it. Damn, that should be a song.

If you are a "ring is the thing, the only thing" fan, then balls to the wall and go for it. I am not, I would rather stay a contender longer than flash and have to do a partial rebuild but I see that other side as well and in my younger days, I was all in on that. Now, I don't want to endure rebuilds. I like being in the playoff hunt in December every year.

I certainly don't agree with 8-8 in the near term. But really...who cares about win/loss and making the playoffs anymore if you can't be a legit contender?

They could care less about the window, they care about getting theirs and that's all they care about. The rest of that BS is just fluff for the fans.
